My other topic aquiring about laptops didnt get much response X-x

Anyways I am student and I'm doing Programming and also some low to moderate lvl Multimedia Programming.

I will be away from home for long hours during weekdays due to college classes so having extra battery life would be helpful.

Oh and yeah... I'm kinda in a budget... ranging from 3.5k to 5k+ (and cant exceed 6k)

Hopefully can get a Centrino based Laptop?

Is Dell Laptop's good?

if not heavy programming, the centrino ok... but it's better to stick to a P4 for programming.

or just wait for Dothan to arrive on our shores, and see some benchies.

just my 2cents.

Hi,

I am thiking of (most likely) of getting this notebook Compaq nx 5000 , please comment on the price and any experience you guys have.

Pentium M 1.4GHz
14.1 TFT XGA
30GB HD
256MB RAM
64MB shared video memory
8 X DVD/ CDRW
Mini PCI 802.11b wireless
Type III Mini PCI 56K modem
Integrated 10/100 NIC
Serial Port/IEEE 1394/SD Slot
Win XP Pro
Touchpad
Warrantty 1/1/0

RM 4899

(1) The spec did not mentioned Centrino, is it a centrino?
(2) What is warranty 1/1/0?
(3) Is 8 X DVD fast enough?
(4) Does it comes with a PCMCIA Slot by default?

Thank you.

mind u this model for now come wif another combo drive, multibay swappable. tongue.gif
the multibay also can be use for HD, floppy or battery.

1 year limited international warranty, includin parts and labor, unless stated otherwise (as far as i can recall) wink.gif

lol...
i said combo drive, not cdrw drive.

the initial drive that is on the laptop is a dvd-rom as u know it.
but the drive bay for the dvd rom is a multibay swapable for other devices such as HD, floopy or battery.

yeah the idea is sorta of like that, if u want to use the other device u can take it out and slot in the desired device.

and it's not a external drive la, since u slot into the drive bay how can it become a external drive doh.gif

spec wise and price i've got no comment, user preferences ler. if you are interested why not go to laptop shops and have a look/try yourself? then u can do a better judgement. all i can say is that price range is appropiate to the specs.
wink.gif later ppl say i'm doin marketing gimmick, coz i'm sellin this model at my workplace.

i hope can get RM 45XX, see how the neg goes, i am still not comfortable with the swappable CDRW, isn't Combo (DVD + CDRW) a better choice?

I mean, dun tell u you gonna carry one HD, Battery, CDRW around and swap it like 'magic' haha

lol, 3rd time i repeat liao
i said swappable combo, not CDRW

i have 4 choice here. Toshiba Satellite M30-731, Acer Aspire 2012WLCi, and Compaq Presario X1316, HP Compaq NX7010(1.7). I'm using it for my collage work (multimedia design) and sure, gaming.

Any user on this laptops can giv some comments? or any opinion?

gaming? go grab the aspire 2012WLci. it got the best specs for mobile gaming, and the price is also good.

just my 2cents. wink.gif

I wan XP Pro... dun wan home edition. (if the Acer 2012WLCi come wit Pro, then ok~)

em... actually i looking forward for a toshiba machine. Satellite M30-731.
The speakers extreamly nice...... Very wide screen wit some sort of clear screen technology. Any CONS to Toshiba's machines?

And the Compaq/HP one. HPnx7010 and Presario X1316. Anybody can giv comments on this two?

well...how bout 8003Lci it comes wif xp pro and also a 128MB Mob raddy 9700.
or the ferarri 3200 which coes with the AMD 64Bit mobile processor and also 128MB Mob raddy 9700. but it's at a great price too tongue.gif tongue.gif
roughly rm7.5K++

toshiba m30-731? well... specwise is ok, comes with NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200 64MB VRAM, Xp Pro and 60GB. sweat.gif cons? they are abit pricey. pros? they live up to the name/brand perhaps?

if u r interested in the compaq presario x1316 and the nx7010
i think u have to stick with nx7010 coz presario x1316 is only windows XP home.
both comes with a 64MB mob raddy 9200. but presario x1316 comes with a DVD/R+W while nx7010 is only a combo drive.

cheers.

Acer, last time did heard they were not that good, but now i think time have changed, so they did too(i mean improved). The same goes for compaq, also got consumer says not good la...bla bla bla. hahaa, user preferences.

for the 8003Lci, it's like the king of the hill now for a Centrino based Laptop available in malaysia.
if u do alot of Graphic/animation/3d rendering, i think u will need the 128MB mob raddy 9700.
if just for gaming, mebbe can settle down with a 64MB mob raddy 9700 or 9600. video editin? i think u need more RAM instead.... tongue.gif tongue.gif
well, y not go and ask the sales at laptop shops there directly, i'm sure they would be more than glad to help. wink.gif

cheers. just my 2cents. laugh.gif

uhmm...there is a newer ferarri... it's 3200, AMD64 and mob raddy 9700 128MB
sweat.gif sweat.gif, as mentioned in my earlier post.... tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

btw, just visited dell's website and did the roughly same config/specs with Acer 8003Lci.... the price for Inspiron is roughly rm7.1k(tho now got free upgrade to 1GB of memory), while 8003Lci is roughly rm7.6K(with 512MB memory only).

but since inspiron 9100 it's a desktop replacement...h3h3, so bulky and heavy plus the battery life shakehead.gif

so the choice is on they buyer's hand... wink.gif
