iamihaveto how many years experience do you have? sgd$5.5k is not high, if you have wife/family, hdb rental alone will eat off 1/3rd of that.

QUOTE(joeylny @ Aug 11 2017, 08:52 PM) Would it be better to drive down a few times or hire a lorry to move the stuff over? Ask your company to include relocation in your package. Standard relocation is a 40-foot container equivalent; the relocation company sends people to your Msia house to pack everything, ships it to SG, then stores it while you work out your accommodation here. |

By any chance does anyone know a reasonably priced way to send 2 suitcases (with clothes and stuff) from SG to KL? |

QUOTE(Steven7 @ Oct 8 2017, 11:09 PM) Quick one guys, what is the "best" credit card for someone who primarily spends on dining and minimal retail shopping? am fine with either miles/cashback/rewards, just want to get something out of my spending instead of using debit card which literally offers little benefit My personal favourite all rounder is Citi PremierMiles, IF your spending patterns get you sufficient miles to make business / first class flight redemptions on SQ.It’s a lot of fun to redeem first class flights for yourself, your parents, etc. This post has been edited by deodorant: Oct 10 2017, 06:46 PM |

QUOTE(joeylny @ Oct 10 2017, 08:46 PM) My first week in Sg. Just signed a contract to rent a whole unit. Now I need to apply broadband n i Check with few telco starhub , Singtel and my republic contract is 2 years. Is there any broadband package with 1 ur contract ? Any recommendations? If you’re interested, drop a PM to Lester1987 or MacKiddo, they are the 大哥s of the LYN working in SG whatsapp chat, can get lots of advice there also. Not too sure about the 1year contract, but just a note that if you need to move house during your broadband contract it can be quite expensive (you need to pay the telco for relocation, and if the new place don’t have fibre termination point you gotta pay the installation for that too). Last time I relocated starhub once, got charged s$300++ KNS. |

QUOTE(joeylny @ Oct 10 2017, 11:20 PM) Maybe i take the my republic no contract plan 59.90 per mth safer that way in case of relocation.. i heard its 250-300 sgd too. how much per mth do u pay n which broadband did u subscribe to? I pay MyRepublic also 59.90/mth for the 1gbps plan. I signed up for contract though, but can't remember 1year or 2years. Probably 2years. It came with 300 bucks discount off asus ac88u. Anyway 1gbps plans overrated, IMO most users should be quite happy with 200-300mbps ones. |

QUOTE(giorgene @ Oct 11 2017, 10:36 AM) I am holding a few CC for different type of spending patterns in order to get 4M/$.. I seldom use Citi PremierMiles now.. Yup, which is why I qualified my statement as it being an “all rounder” card. For those of us (like you) who are willing to min-max, niche cards have much higher earn rates in niche situations, for those of us (like me) who don’t have the brainpower to do so and just want a generalist all rounder card, IMO Citi PM is one of the best. (I guess actually there are better all rounders like Citi Prestige, but those have a steep income requirement ...) |

QUOTE(giorgene @ Oct 11 2017, 11:11 AM) I think UOB PRVI Miles earns better than Citi PremierMiles.. 1.4mpd, but problem is the rounding, cos you only get blocks of 7miles for every $5 (you get 0 for $4.95 spend). For big transactions UOB wins, for small ones Citi PM wins, I call it a draw haha. So i still prefer Citi cos they have more dining deals, got citi $100 gourmet, got more 8-10mpd promos with agoda/etc, 15% discount promo with expedia, etc etc. But that’s a discussion for a different thread ba, the point we both agree on is that mileage credit cards = Best 👍🏻 |

QUOTE(Steven7 @ Oct 13 2017, 02:30 PM) Thanks for the suggestion. Forgive me if my question sounds stupid but don't UOB PPV offers better mpd than Ctii PM, with the following assumptions: ignoring Citi PM welcome bonus and assuming my merchant has paywave? UOB miles are in blocks of s$5 (7 miles for s$5). If you spend $4 you get 0 miles. So for small spends the earn rate is pretty bad, but of course larger spends it’s better than the citi card. |

SIC Salary comparison tool. http://www.salary.sg/2017/compare-your-annual-income-2017/
Mine: Your annual income of $xx,xxx. is higher than 55.6% of all resident taxpayers*. Heng I am at least in the upper half. Another 4 years to 40 years old. Wonder if I can achieve top 40% by then ... * "As usual, please note that residents earning $20k and below do not pay tax. Hence they are not included in the above comparison." |

QUOTE(fhatz @ Oct 16 2017, 06:00 PM) here Im getting around RM 7.5k+- by end year will getting 2 months target bonus(need to get rating 3 during appraisal that consider normal rating) SGD4k living in SG + married with 1 baby .. is it ok? rm7500 to sgd4000 is a huge downgrade. you rent an old 2-bedroom hdb already half your pay gone, and that's even before needing to feed your wife + baby. if you're willing to rent a room instead of a whole unit then it's around sgd800-sgd1000, but can your wife really be comfortable raising the child alone in a room instead of a house? one alternative is to live in Johor and then commute in daily. Asami rm5.5 vs sgd4.0 isn’t too bad, but you will need to ... adjust your expectations for living standards. In MY I presume you’d continue to stay in parents house, drive your car out at nights and weekends for yumcha, mamak etc. Go SG on that salary you need to rent a room and share with strangers, bus mrt and walk everywhere (or ubergrab short distances). just something to keep in mind i guess.
fhatz if your profile is good enough, there’s no problem at all to get paid on SG rates. Your issue is probably that your profile is in high supply in SG, so that’s why you’re getting lowballed. FYI when I came over it was an myr1.0 —> sgd1.07 ratio, and cases like mine are quite common in the history of this thread. This post has been edited by deodorant: Oct 19 2017, 06:53 PM |
