Apply 60+ in jobsdb, jobstreet etc since 3 weeks ago....get 1 offer from local accounting small firm, another reply yesterday asking for additional supporting documents...
Disclaimer: I am not an auditor.

Heard from my audit friends that big4/large audit firms don't attach much weight to work experience in small firms. So if you do decide to get your foot in the door this way, the road to jump ship to a bigger firm in the future might be difficult as well.

Quick question, did anyone here convert to PR and successfully convinced the boss to pay full-employer rate CPF on the first year? biggrin.gif

The company that I was working for previously automatically puts its perms on graduated employee, full employer CPF scheme from the day you get your PR. So no convincing needed.

Then again the company encashes an employer CPF equivalent amount to payroll for non-PRs/SCs anyway, so it's not like they lose out.

That's a great company, mind to PM me the name or if its private then its fine. Too bad my contract don't have such clause.

Think it's pretty common / standard practice among large MNCs. Or at least the ones with large offices / regional HQs here.

I see, I'd assume that I would have to promise to work with the company for at least 6 months or a year minimum to get a pass? Would it be crazy to ask for 3K$ minimum for a Chef?

"Chef" is very vague. Obviously the pay scale differs if you're the exec chef of a 5star hotel restaurant vs if you're a line cook in some causal eatery in a shopping mall.

Having said that, I have no idea what the pay scales are in either case lol.

a typical working class foreigner in singapore: live in a small HDB room, go to work every morning having to beat the morning rush with cramped buses and trains, work is typically more stressful as employers tend to expect more from you (competition is also pretty stiff there as there is always other foreigners that are willing to do the same job with higher qualifications and lower pay), after work you will usually be so tired you just want to go home and take a nap.

That isn't typical at all. That's more like entry level / inexperienced worker.

Singapore median gross income (individuals) is around s$4k, median gross income (households) around s$8.9k. If you "live in a small hdb room" at this pay range then it's by your own choice and not by compulsion.

Hi Fiona,

Can I check with you, me & my wife both of us are PR, can my wife give birth in Singapore? If can, my child would he/she be automaticly grant Singapore PR or can he/she apply for Singapore citizenship? The child will be issued birth certificate here & what is the next procedure?
yes you can give birth here
no your kid cannot apply for citizenship (singapore is not a jus soli country)
your kid doesn't get automatic PR either, you have to decide whether you want to apply for him/her
etc
anyway after you give birth, you apply for a singapore birth certificate for your kid. then u take that and apply for malaysian birth certificate at high comm. then with that yih apply malaysian passport.

- as i understand residential address need to change. and if i put in JB address, tax will consider non tax resident.

You think IRAS will give you such a huge loophole, stay in JB no need to pay SG tax? doh.gif
Residency (physical address) and Tax Residency are two separate concepts. Go look up how IRAS defines tax residency.

Non-resident rate is higher la bro.
He's just asking if put JB address but work in SG, they qualify as tax resident or non-resident. Non-resident rate is much higher. Like 20% iinm.

lol you're totally right, kemaluan aku sangat besar. Those people I know who stay in JB I think they all borrow a friend or relative's singapore address, but I could be wrong.

This is not correct, not all MY operators had their lines enabled auto-roaming. Most prepaid are not on auto-roaming (may have additional charges just to activate roaming), and low end postpaid as well. Especially Umobile plans cause I have friends on Umobile and they have no signal when they came to SG.
*
I don't know about umobile, but for the other big carriers it's generally prepaid has auto roaming enabled, and it's the postpaid that needs to specifically enable it.

[edit] Even your umobile link says so: "For Prepaid Subscribers: What do I need to prepare if I want to activate IDD and International Roaming?

No subscription is required. Roaming services (IDD & IR) are pre-activated for all prepaid subscribers"

Too much negativity. Still with the MY mentality. One example is "you need to earn more to be atas in SG", I was like "duhh, which person don't want to earn more to be atas".

To be frank, she isn't really entirely wrong. Singapore well known to be a playground for the rich, and consequently is a terrible place for the poor. Example behkan like me, household income me and wife combine is less than 5k, can't even save up enough for resale hdb and have to rent forever until we die.

Hi there. I work in SG for 1 year plus now with S pass. Should I try to apply for PR now?  If I got rejected I need to resubmit all the papers again?

It doesn't really cost much to apply for a PR so there's no harm trying I suppose. But 1year+ work exp and SPass (ie being low down on the seniority scale) doesn't really translate to a high chance of approval.

learn smtg new then, thanks for sharing
sometimes too many he say she say all not true lol
sometimes it's also cos rules and procedures change. last time when i had EP there was stuff like P1 P2 Q1 different rank of EP. then somewhere along the line MOM abolished those rank, but it's not like they will broadcast the changes to all previous EP holders icon_idea.gif

similar story with work on IPA, last time memang can work with IPA, but like the other poster has pointed out, now cannot d, must wait for company to apply pass and get notification letter then only can work.

which credit card good if main spending mostly on dining and groceries?

I am a big fan of mileage cards (if you have a decent level of spending), Example DBS Altitude, Citi PremierMiles, Citi Prestige, etc etc.

Swipe card get points/miles. Transfer miles to KrisFlyer and redeem for biz class / first class tickets.

2 years ago my wife and I flew on SQ Suites to Tokyo. Then later this year we're flying my parents to Melbourne and my parents in law to Seoul (business only though).

Actually... I'm really curious... How to claim all those miles one? And how those Miles translate to your booking.

Really goes by "Miles"? Like SG to Seoul say 3000 miles then you just pay 3000 miles will do?

Then does the Miles cover everything or just the ticket price but not including all the airport taxes etcl
Originally, airlines would give you "miles" according to how far you actually fly with them. So if SIN Seoul return was 3000miles, then the airline will "give" you 3000 miles (sort of like a currency) in your account.

Flying business or first class will have a multiplier so for example biz you might earn 3x miles ie 9000 miles.

Then you collect miles and then eventually redeem them (for example you need 58,000 miles to redeem one way biz class to Sydney / Melbourne).

Nowadays if you don't fly an airline often you still can get miles via credit cards. So like s$1 spending, the bank gives you 1.2-2.0 (or more) points / miles. You can then transfer these points to your airline account and use that to redeem flight tickets.

U converted singaporean d isit? How come u can get approved geh. I keep getting rejected in all my cc applications. sad.gif

You can go pull a credit report (it's free within 30days of applying for any loan, card, etc otherwise it's 7bucks or so) to see what's getting reported to the banks.

If it's a lack of credit history problem, well i guess you could apply for the scb manhattan $500 credit limit version, use that for a few months to build history.

To get EP, you will need degree or professional qualification iinm.

Last time I got A levels only (with few years work experience) also can get EP approved. Think it's an overall combination of qualifications + experience + salary that determines whether MOM gives you a certain pass type or not?

2. I went to SG last month and wanted to buy Starhub sim card but it was sold out so I bought Singtel. is it worth it? My room already got wifi so I won't be using a lot of data. 1GB per month is enough for me (I'm using my Celcom data for only 300MB per month lol)

You can PM MacKiddo and/or Lester1987 to get added to the LYN Malaysians in SG whatsapp group for quicker response, help, etc.

But anyway Singtel is good I guess, generally it's known as the Maxis equivalent in SG.
