Depends how much stuff you have I guess. I came over on a local package but the hiring company sponsored my relocation via Crown Relocations. I can say that it's amazingly professional, they send people over to your house to pack up and wrap everything nicely, ship it over to SG (limit one 40-foot container), store it in SG for a month while you look for your accommodations, then bring everything to your house, unpack, and put everything in whichever place you ask them to.

Price wise I don't know how much, good service I assume isn't cheap.

I can only think that the landlord never register you as occupier with HDB, so as to avoid declaring and paying tax

Depends on owner/agent wanna LCLY with u or not ba. I rented two places since I was here, both places owner and agent both mostly quite suibian, all I did was do normal sweep plus mop, wash the curtains, wipe windows and grills and cupboards then handover liao. Both times no issues raised by owners and got back my full deposit immediately.

Having said that I know of nightmare owners who will use any little small excuse to return less money to their tenants, so ......

With shared accommodation (whether shared room, or own room share house with others), your comfort will depend a lot on what kind of people you are sharing with. And to a lesser extent, whether your landlord is asshole or not.

I doubt that HR or the companies will explicitly have anything written in stone. But in small, tight-knit industries there is most definitely such a thing as your boss calling up the hiring manager and unofficially asking him not to hire you.

Sometimes it's also due to your lack of credit history. One option is to apply for the SCB Manhattan $500 card (it's a card designed for students with a $500credit limit, but working adults can apply too).

Get that card approved, use it for a few months, which builds your credit history, then apply again for other banks' cards. Should be more successful this time cos the banks can see that yes, you have a histoeu of paying credit cards regularly and on time.

My case hardly unique, though. Just need to go to Raffles Place or any other CBD MRT station to have a look. 5.45pm already many people going home, the moment it hits 6pm the stations are freaking crowded, early-6pm trains possibly even more packed than the morning ones.

My point is that if you have a 60-hour a week job, you shouldn't automatically jump to the conclusion that it's "normal" and that everyone else works long hours too (but of course it is also possible that it's normal for your particular industry and therefore there's nothing you can do about it other than suck it up or jump industries).

Where did you get this info? It seems totally inaccurate. Sure, the company may withhold 15%, but assuming you continue working in another SG company, it all evens out properly during tax filing season.
