Hello Sifus,

Looking for your advise or suggestions regarding upgrading my old build. Is the current specs good enough to just upgrade the GPU to a new GTX 1070 without changing anything else except maybe upgrading the RAM to 2x 8gb DDR3 rams? Would like advise on if doing this would bottleneck the card or not as well or if which parts could be upgraded to avoid that.

Or would it be better to just spend RM 3-4k on a completely new setup that would be good to last for another 3-5 years?

The rig will be mainly be used for casual gaming on games like far cry primal, star wars battlefront, diablo 3, overwatch etc. Looking to get around a stable frame rate of around 70-80 fps averagely for a 24" 1920 x 1080 screen. Of course higher would be better.
Old Specs-

CPU - CORE I7 2600 @ 3.4 GHZ
MOBO - ASUS P8P67 LE REV 1.03
RAM - 2 x 4Gb Corsair DDR3 1333MHz
SSD - Sandisk 128gb
HDD - wd10ealx-009ba0
GPU - MSI N560GTX TI TWIN FROZR II
PSU - CoolerMaster GX 650W
Case - Cooler Master Elite 430 Black
Monitor - Samsung syncmaster bx2450 - 24", 1920 x 1080 (Looking to upgrade this to a 27" or 31" Screen as well if possible)

Thank you!
*
I have seen few rigs with i7 2600 + GTX1070 combo and the CPU bottlenecks the GPU when running CPU demanding games, just make sure you lower down (if you don't mind) those CPU demanding settings in return for a more stable frame rate.

hi any1 buying stuff using credit card visa from lowyat pc shops recently? do they have any extra charges using credit card when buying new pc/parts? do they have extra service charge building new pc/upgrade pc?

i found a shop at web quite nice - http://www.idealtech.com.my/store/index.ph...ute=common/home

price almost same as lowyat but they can make ur pc nice nice, :
- Free Assembly & Installation
(for full rigs hardware purchased from Ideal Tech PC only)
- Update with Latest Hardware BIOS or Firmware & Latest Drivers
(We will flash the latest bios on motherboard and using latest graphic card drivers)

ive ask them they say got extra 2% charge for credit card, not sure if using half cash half credit card though
*
Viewnet Lowyat Plaza doesn't have any credit card surcharge, not sure about others though.

Hey thanks for the reply!

Would upgrading the CPU to some of the latest I5/i7s solve this bottleneck issue ? My concern would be the MOBO not being compatible or already too old for the new processors.

Thanks!
*
So far only the i7 6700/7700 (excl. Intel Extreme series) are known to have almost zero bottleneck issue when pairing with GTX1070. The highest tier CPU that your mobo can support is the i7 3770 and you are likely won't be able to find any new unit in the market now since it is long obsoleted.

My suggestion is stick with your i7 2600 first, perform the entire CPU platform upgrade only if you really cannot "tahan" in the future biggrin.gif

how about gigabyte gtx 1060 g1 gaming? in term of cooling.
*
More or less the same, if you are thinking to swap to other GTX1060, don't do it, not worth the effect and money just for the little difference (likely none or just 1 to 2°C).

haha u know what im thinking dude  rclxms.gif
if thats the case, i should go for better casing fans right?

if so, with tecware f3, can you guide me how should i arrange the case fan? planning to go corsair non led one. some say 2x sp120 front, 1x af120 rear & 1x af120 top. is it okay? i dont have radiator btw.
*
If no radiator or anything that can block the airflow (front panel) then no need to go for SP, AF is more efficient in this case.

2 AF120 for front panel, 1 AF120 on top and 1 AF120 for rear panel. Or just get 2 AF120 without buying 4 new AF120 at the same time since the case comes with 2 120mm casing fans already.

yea now i have 2 stock fans at front, 1 aigo led fan at rear. thinking getting corsair because its better than tecware & aigo fans right?
*
I would say it is better than the stock casing fan, but how much better? Hard to judge by looking at the specs sheet given, they could be very noisy when running at full speed, so remember to get the PWM version if you want to have full control on their speed, PWM (4-pin) version is more expensive than standard 3-pin version.

Hi,, about the fan..
What is AF and what is SP?
How to differentiate between them?

I have aigo blade casing free with 2 fan at front.  I want to add another fan but not sure which fan should i buy.. Budget around 100.

Thanks.
*
AF is "Air Flow" while SP is "Static Pressure".

AF = good in unrestricted air flow (much higher CFM compared to SP)

SP = good in restricted air flow as the design of the fan is to push the air through the obstacles like radiator, HDD/SDD cage, PSU etc.

So first thing you need to do is to check out if there is anything in your rig that is currently blocking the path of the position of the casing fan, if yes then get SP type casing fan, if no then AF casing fan will do. Another important thing to take note is whether you want to have full control on the speed of the casing fan or not, go for normal 3-pin if you don't want to control them (via software or BIOS), 4-pin (PWM) if you want to control them.

hi everyone,
how is the above rig ? case is a bit expensive i didin't decide yet, i am planning to use mainly for video edit, so gpu looks fine, i know a bit less fps comparing to gtx1060 but as i know a bit cooler biggrin.gif what do you say ?
*
Specs is fine, RX480 runs hotter than GTX1060 FYI but that's still within safe range (just FYI).

QUOTE(y4ng @ Apr 13 2017, 12:32 AM)
Dear All,

My GPU burnt out recently, I dont really game anymore. but my screen resolution is a bit sucky after taking out my GPU. My plan is to get a GPU + SSD upgrade. Can recommend anything? more to using tools like photoshop, and watching HD videos/movies nia nowadays.

Budget below RM1k. my current build (yeah, some over what i need, that time i was richer)

Intel Core i5 4460
Asrock B85 Killer
G.SKill 16GB X2 DDR3
Powercolor R9 280X (KO last month)
WD Blue 500MB
Coolermaster V750
*
Have you tried to update the driver of the iGPU? i5 4460 comes with HD4600 which shouldn't give you any problem when running 1080p (or even 1440p) monitor. Not worth to spend RM 150++ for GT710 which is even weaker than the iGPU sweat.gif

As for SSD, 240GB enough? Your budget can go for 500GB if you want biggrin.gif

so far have yet to update my iGPU, but in the future i would want to use it for my 40" TV, so still possible? was considering a cheap 950 or 960. RM300-500 can get kua?
for SSD, erm, which brand to go for? i know my mobo cant take M.2, a dealer suggested pioneer  blink.gif last time i was thinking it was always intel, samsung or i cannot remember the other one, was popular for CD-RW.
*
40" 1080p TV? If yes then no problem, your mobo can output 4K @24Hz or 1440p @60Hz via HDMI so that's plenty to spare yet.

Since you don't game anymore, why would you spend the extra money for an used 950 or 960? I would rather spend the money to get a larger size SSD anytime.

Pioneer SSD is entry level SSD, you can consider getting the Samsung 850 EVO/Transcend 370/Corsair Force LE etc. if you prefer something that performs better out of the box.

SSD for my OS, other brands beside samsung? entry level will do cos I dont think I can feel the difference.Pioneer is alright? thinking get one SSD, another 1TB hdd if not getting GPU. nah dont wanna get 2nd hand, i have trust issue with ppl nowadays, kena bitten too many times. pay a bit more to get new + warranty better.

thanks for the tv output, appreciate it a lot.
*
Pioneer is fine if you are only finding something that can boost the performance of your PC from the traditional HDD.

Other entry level (or mid end) SSD that you can consider are Kingston UV400/WD Blue/Green/Apacer etc.

[Budget] - 2000 max. Cannot go over..

[Purpose] - Gaming/Editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] - Monitor, HDD, PSU, GPU, mouse keyboard.

[Hardwares that need to buy] - Mobo, proc, ram, etc

GPU - Zotac GTX 1050 mini 2gb

[Games & softwares that use frequently] - Illustrator, photoshop, editing, DotA, some latest games.

[Location] - Selangor

2 choices: i5 or Ryzen 5. If your "editing" includes video editing then Ryzen 5 with more cores & threads will certainly benefit you more.

[Budget] - 8k, include monitor + wifi PCIE card for TIME, no need case (ATX)

[Purpose] - mostly AAA Gaming

can built with 1440p60 at least, and GTX 1080/1070?

will i7 be better with 1080 or is i5 enough?

thanks.
*
GTX1070/1080/1080Ti/Titan XP/Xp are recommended to pair with i7, i5 bottlenecks them unfortunately in some CPU demanding titles.

And about the monitor, IPS with 6ms ok for you? Your budget is a bit hard to fit a 1440p gaming monitor except the Dell S2417DG (but I heard there are some pixel inversion issues in the early batch, need to check properly before purchase).

Intel Core i7 7700 - RM 1421
Gigabyte H270-HD3 - RM 519
G.SKill Aegis 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 550
Gigabyte GTX1070 8GB GDDR5 G1 Gaming - RM 2099
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD - RM 464
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
EVGA SuperNova 550 G2 - RM 459
TP-LINK ARCHER T9E AC1900 PCIe WiFi Dual Band - RM 206
Dell UltraSharp U2715H IPS - RM 2089

Total: RM 8026 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

What about mobo and ram? hmm.gif Can Ryzen 5 fit into my budget for all?
*
Can, Ryzen is having a much lower price tag per core/thread count to beat Intel's pricing after all.

AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (6C12T 3.4G/3.6G) - RM 1019
ASRock AB350 Pro4 - RM 469 (ATX)
MSI B350M Gaming Pro - RM 435 (mATX)
Corsair 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 550

Total up will be around 2k (price from Techview).

ATX one comes with more RAM slots, SATA ports, PCIe slots, USB ports etc but you need to make sure your casing supports ATX mobo first before you make the purchase.

Rig Upgrade
[Budget] RM1k-1.5k can make to 2k if worth

[Purpose] Gaming & Streaming maybe minor editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
GPU (for now la waiting for Vega/Polaris 20), Storage, Case, KBM & maybe PSU n RAM

[Monitor resolution] 1080p60fps

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Overwatch, BF1 & a few other AAA title

[Personal preferences]best bang for buck. I dont mind playing at mid-low setting

[Location] Shah Alam

current rig is
i3 3220
B75M-DGS
RX460 4GB
8GB
250GB(S) + 1TB(H)
Hexa 500w (should I change it? cos is 4 years already)
Case I forget  sweat.gif is like a mid tower I think. I can put like 5 extra slot for PCIE things.

should I upgrade to i7 3770/2600 or change to Ryzen 5?  hmm.gif
*
If you want to save money then i7 3770 is a better option, Ryzen 5 path requires a whole CPU platform upgrade (increase the total budget needed).

thanks, seems ETECH price is pretty competitive hmm.

is wireless AC needed for TIME? can save with N900 TPLINK TL-WDN4800 instead? only 1 PC using wifi mostly..

also is 25" U2515H (AH-IPS)2560x1440/8ms (RM1339) good?
*
It depends on which package and router you are using, for example, if you are using 300Mbps and you want to get full 300Mbps download and upload on WiFi then you need a capable adapter (assuming your router is able to output 300Mbps via its WiFi, AC1900 standard).

U2515H is fine, I haven't tried 1440p on 25" display yet though but scaling is likely needed, if not everything will be very small and Windows is known to have awful scaling experience.

Hi guys, one question. Since rx 580 is around the corner and it got me thinking.
Is rx 480 8gb better buy than rx 580 4gb as both of their prices are almost identical.
Higher base clock of rx 580 4gb vs higher memory of rx 480 8gb

Usage : dual monitor and gaming on 1080 144hz
*
It depends on the actual performance of the card, can't really judge it by just looking at the figure of the leaked benchmark and result at the moment.

VRAM isn't everything also, 4GB is quite a lot for 1080p gaming (except some big titles with ultra texture pack), RX580 4GB should be able to beat RX480 8GB easily when VRAM is not the deciding factor.

*
Hard to guarantee 100% 60 FPS on full settings but I would say high chance you are able to do that but bear in mind that there are some advance settings like Nvidia GameWorks tweaks that can significantly bring down the performance of the game, just make sure your "full settings" do not include them because they aren't easy to handle, even with a super high end GPU.

SSD is not a requirement to get 60 FPS so you may remove that if you want to save cost for now.
