Asking for my friend,
He want to upgrade his cpu i3-7100
Budget around 400-800 used/new to pair with gtx 1060 6gb mini.

And also what decent price that i3 can be sold?
*
i5 is within the budget range, i7 & Ryzen are out of reach.

Used unit price for i3 7100 should be around RM 400+/-, but bear in mind that Kaby Lake i3 is facing a strong competition with an entry level G4560 which is having similar core configuration as i3 (2C4T), value might drop further.

Hi guys. I'm thinking of building a mini pc using Cooler Master 110 or any similar portable mini PC case. Please give full suggestion for the hardwares that I need thanks.

[Budget] <RM2k

[Purpose] Gaming on 1080P on smallest PC, high graphic setting.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] 1TB Green HDD, MKB+Mouse.

[Monitor resolution]
- ViewSonic VA2419-SH IPS - RM 495 1080P, if there's a better 1 pls give suggestion. Minimum 21.5".

[Games & softwares that use frequently] : The Witcher series, common upcoming AAA games

[Personal preferences] : RX460 2GB, I will upgrade to GTX1070. So expecting to be using same CPU for GTX1070. Will not overclock. Amd Ryzen if viable?
*
This is a tight budget, especially when you request to re-use your CPU when you upgrade the GPU to GTX1070 in the future, CPU bottleneck surely will happen if you go for dual core CPU now.

Hey guys, what's the difference between gtx1050, gtx1050ti and gtx1050 ti strix?

Is gtx1050ti strix good for gaming?

If I get gtx1050ti is i5 4460 good enough to pair with? or should I get i7 instead?

But read a few threads, they said for gaming rig shud hv priority of gpu instead of cpu. is that truth?
*
GTX1050 and GTX1050Ti are two different GPU models from Nvidia while GTX1050Ti Strix is a customized GTX1050Ti from Asus.

GTX1050Ti is a low/mid end GPU, so pairing it with i5 is completely fine, not necessary need to get i7 and yes for gaming rig, focus more on GPU instead of CPU (this applies for all GPU below GTX1070).

GTX1050Ti Strix is very expensive, its price is very close to GTX1060 3GB from Palit and Zotac already, GTX1060 is roughly 50% ahead of GTX1050Ti in general so it is more worth to invest in GTX1060 3GB card than an expensive Asus Strix GTX1050Ti.

But the Asus Strix GTX1050Ti come with 4gb. So is the performance better than GTX1060 3GB?

Also, what if I upgrade to i7? Will it improve the performance greatly or just slightly?
*
VRAM doesn't directly impact the raw performance of the card, it is useful only when you need it, GTX1060 3GB is still a better pick than GTX1050Ti 4GB Strix version if you want more performance out of the box (as in higher frame rate) brows.gif

Switching from i5 to i7 doesn't benefit you at all if the games you play don't need that extra horsepower of i7, and you need to top up RM 500+ if you upgrade from i5 to i7, you better spend the money in a better GPU instead, at least it provides a better price/performance ratio in overall.

For example:
1. i5 + GTX1060 = 60 FPS in games
2. i7 + GTX1050Ti = 40 FPS in games

First option is clearly a better choice here.

Does this means that  if I have a i5 6600k + gtx 1070, I can play any game with ultra setting for my upcoming years?
*
Not guaranteed, i5 is known to create CPU bottleneck when you pair it with a high end GPU (like GTX1070, 1080, 1080Ti etc) and run any CPU demanding titles like Watch Dogs 2, Hitman 2016, TC: GR Wildlands etc. Just make sure you overclock the 6600K to 4.xGHz to reduce the bottleneck as much as possible when the bottleneck strikes.

And I heard that i7 is mainly for video editing purposes?
*
People get i7 for video editing and rendering because it is much faster to process than i5 (and other lower end CPU), imagine you adjust the timeline in Premier Pro and have to wait for few seconds just for the playback on slower system, you will rage quit after awhile laugh.gif

Not sure if this is the rite thread.
Have anyone successfully hooked up a desktop gpu to dell inspiron 7559? Mine is i5 vrsyun. Couldn't find any verified success posted on net.
P/s: my googling skill not at same lvl as sifus.
*
7559 doesn't have Thunderbolt 3 port so eGPU (external GPU) support isn't that easy to achieve, you will need to rely on the mini PCIe (either from WiFi card or SSD, please check the specs of your laptop to confirm) to connect to the eGPU and bear in mind that most of the mini PCIe slots run at a much slower transfer rate than desktop counterpart so bandwidth bottleneck is likely to happen when you connect your laptop with a high end GPU, and don't forget you need a PSU to power it up so it is definitely not an easy job (at least for now).

QUOTE(5p3ak @ Mar 21 2017, 07:52 PM)

hi sifu2 here
im planning to buy a new rig this weekend
purpose is for gaming
but budget is quite small, just rm2.5k..however this is excluding monitor
seek your advise on the best spec for this budget please
tq

Mid and lower end AMD Ryzen is scheduled to be released next month, so this build is still based on Intel CPU and they are many possible builds for your budget, you didn't list out which games you are going to play so I'll just use a dual core i3 as reference, you may ditch the SSD and upgrade to i5 or even GTX1060 if you prefer to get something that is able to improve your gaming experience.

Intel Core i3 7100 - RM 522
ASRock H110M-HDV - RM 260
G.SKill Aegis 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM - RM 255
Zotac GTX1050Ti 4GB GDDR5 Mini - RM 729
Kingston SSDNow UV400 120GB SSD - RM 234
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 450W - RM 169
Tecware F3 - RM 119

Total: RM 2507 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

QUOTE(piggy2008 @ Mar 22 2017, 02:11 AM)
Hi. Recently my rig went kaput. The specs are:

AMD Athlon 4x 635 Processor
Asus M4N68-T Mobo
GTX580 GPU(Sent for diagnose)
1TB Samsung HDD
8GB Kingston Hyper fury X Ram
23" Samsung S23a350H (Faulty HDMI port, only VGA available)

I rarely use the PC, less than 10 hours per mth. I may spend more time gaming after the upgrade. My budget is around RM500 to RM1,500 for upgrade. I am thinking of buying a GTX1060 3GB mini but I am afraid that my CPU will substantially bottleneck the GPU. I do not mind used hardware as long as the price is great. PC usage for occasional 1080p DotA 2 gaming. Could any sifu here kindly recommendations or links? Ah, btw before I forget, is it better for me to repair my monitors' HDMI, buy a new monitor or stick with VGA for now? Thanks.
*
You don't need GTX1060 for 1080p Dota 2, GTX1050(or Ti) is more than enough to give you 60 FPS max settings in games (provided CPU is not the bottleneck). BTW, the performance of GTX1050Ti is quite similar to GTX580, no need to upgrade if it is still working (the problem is the GPU right?).

VGA is using analog signal and new GPU models ditched VGA since long time ago and switched to digital signal to provide a better display output quality. If you want to save money then you can just get an adapter, not necessary need to repair it since VGA is still able to output 1080p60 fairly well.

Future i5? We aren't sure if Intel is going to re-use LGA1151 socket for their 8th gen CPU yet so this is hard to guarantee but rest assured it would be compatible with current gen i5 (6th and 7th).

Intel Pentium G4560 - RM 244
Asus H110M-D - RM 279
G.SKill Aegis 8GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM - RM 255
Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD - RM 219
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 195
Tecware Edge - RM 149

Those games you mentioned do take advantage of the extra cores, so yea i5 will give you a more stable frame rate and gaming experience.

I came across an AMD A10 7850k and FM2A88X+ Killer selling for RM500. Since my GPU is not working, I was thinking of buying this as a replacement. Is the price and performance any good? I may consider buying the R9 380X tomorrow to combo with this APU. Will the APU iGPU increase the FPS of external GPU? Will there be huge bottlenecks? Sorry, I do not understand much about APU. blush.gif

By the way, if I were to sell all my old hardwares except for HDD and RAM, how much do you think I should price them? The issues with the hardwares are stated above. Thank you in advance.
*
APU of iGPU will not increase the FPS of dedicated GPU unless you go for the hybrid crossfire which is only available on few selected low end R7 series GPU, the performance after crossfire might not be able to beat a R9 380X after all so just forget about this.

For RM 500, you better go with new G4560 + H110 mobo (cost the same) or used i3 or even i5 which all of them roll over the performance of the aged A10 7850K.

Not much you can get from selling off your parts, mostly < RM 200 (if lucky) for CPU and mobo, GPU is not included since it is sent for checking, same goes to HDD, RAM and monitor where you can re-use them in your next build.

Hi guys,

I am looking for a pc system to power up a 2x2HDTV video wall. My budget is about RM2k.

Screen resolution for 2x2 video wall should be 3840x2140 thus the eyefinity from RED team is more preferable at the moment.

Any suggestion for the system?

i3 7100
Motherboard?
GC: R9 380x
8gb Ram
1TB HD or 128gb SSD
reliable 450-500W power supply
normal casing
*
So it is 4 FHD TV combine together and become 3840 x 2160 right?

Just get a cheap H110 mobo and call it a day since nothing special on the mobo requirement side.

Since you are planning to upgrade the GPU to GTX1070 (or AMD equivalent if got) in the near future, i7 is recommended so you can re-use in your next upgrade as i5 bottlenecks the GTX1070 in some CPU demanding titles (especially few recent triple A titles). But unfortunately your budget cannot fit an i7 yet, if you were to get an i7 now then you will have to rely on a low end GPU for gaming, the next available option is to wait for the cheaper AMD Ryzen 5 and their respective X300/A/B300 SFF mobo to reach Malaysia first before you make the purchase.

Intel Core i5 7500 - RM 922
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 283

Ok thank for the suggestion. So let's say I want to make a PC rig that's able to play high on latest AAA games and ultra on older AAA games temporarily with RX460 only, what's the best alternatives? I'll get new CPU+GPU in the future if I'm capable of that, meanwhile I'll stick with RX460. Also, RM3k budget including monitor, so it's around Rm2.5k left for PC rig.
*
If you decided to use RX460 only then you need to expect the FPS to be much lower than higher end card, if you go this way then you can get a speedy CPU first like i7 or Ryzen 5.

With my current budget, should I wait AMD Ryzen to arrive then only I proceed to build my PCt? I'm thinking of getting my PC built within a week, maximum I can wait is 2 weeks. Please suggest on what parts should i get for my PC again since I had revised it. Now I will only focus on bulding 2.5k PC Rigs for the meantime, I will upgrade CPU and GPU at the same time in the future.
*
If 2 weeks is the max limit, then just pick Intel CPU, Ryzen 3 and 5 are scheduled to reach by 11/04 while their mITX mobo are yet to have any confirmed release date, not really worth to wait if you are in a rush.

Future games (wanna be good for 2017 I guess)

[Personal preferences]
Details below

[Location]
KL/Selangor, will be flying off soon for studies.

Right so hello guys, this will be my first time building a PC. I've been wanting to build my own gaming rig for long enough, and figured I should give it a shot.

My main aim is to be able to comfortably play recent games at high to max settings at 1080p, 60fps. I actually already have a build in mind centered around an i5 7500 and GTX 1060 at my budget.

There is one challenge, however; I'm a student, currently doing A-Levels with final exams in June. If I score, I get to fly off to the UK in September. Between June and September (I finish a levels early June, fly end of September), I have ample time to invest in this hobby. However, building and playing at home is not enough. I'll be away for 4 years, and I've decided I want to build a pc I can bring with me to the UK. On a flight. Crazy, right? But I've done some research. And here's a build I came up with.

CPU: i5 7500 - RM880 (c-zone)
GPU: Asus GTX 1060 Strix 6GB - RM1699 (c-zone)
Mobo: Gigabyte H270N-Wifi - RM629 (viewnet)
Case: Fractal Design Node 202 + Integra 450W PSU - RM669 (c-zone)
RAM: Aegis 2x4GB DDR4 2400 - RM299 (idealtech)
SSD: Samsung EVO 850 250GB - RM479 (viewnet)
HDD: Seagate 2.5” Barracuda 1TB - RM249 (viewnet)

Total RM4904 without peripherals.

However, this is a pretty specific build, with specific needs and I have no peripherals, and since I need portability might as well put them in anyway.

Peripherals

Monitor: AOC E1659FWU usb - RM389 (viewnet)
Keyboard: ASUS Cerberus - RM199 (idealtech)
Speakers: Logitech z120 - RM59 (idealtech)

Total RM647 for peripherals.
Net total RM5551 (without software pulak but let's not go into that here)

Right so the key here is the small Fractal Design Node 202 mini ITX case that can actually fit a standard GPU. I've checked that the asus strix gtx1060 fits in the case by comparing dimensions. The monitor is key as well; I had to find a portable one and saw this nifty one listed in viewnet's price list.

Now while I'm typing this I'm actually wondering if this is the right place to post this. I'll just post here first, cause I still need suggestions and have a multitude of questions:

- I am fully aware that as a beginner, this build is gonna be a nightmare. Problems with cramming things in getting the cabling right is gonna be a challenge, but I feel so excited to tackle this. Anybody have any experience building mini-ITX? Specifically in this node 202 case?
My main rig is mITX form factor (not this casing though) and I helped my friend to build his rig based on Node 202 before (in Dec 2016), quite a compact casing.

- Should I go with stock CPU cooler? I don't plan to overclock, so stock should be enough right?
Yes, stock cooler is enough unless temperature is high (no need to go for after market cooler first, get only when it reaches critical level or out of your comfort zone).

- The case comes with an Integra 450W PSU, but I can also opt for a non psu version; I've read things like the psu being shit, having too many cables etc etc. Should I opt to buy a modular sfx psu instead?
Well the 450W PSU is pretty crap, taiwanese capacitors and non-modular cables, ditch it and get a modular SFX PSU instead.

- I've read about people preferring to use a nano gpu instead of a fat gpu due to noise and temperature reasons, thoughts on this? I really wanna run the 1060.
1.7k for a GTX1060?!?! Overpriced man, you could get Zotac GTX1070 Mini by topping up RM 250 and you get extra ~40% performance + confirm can fit in SFF casing without any hassle. Or just get the Zotac GTX1060 Mini (or other GTX1060 SFF version) to save cost.

- the case can only support 2 2.5 sata drives, so I've decided on 1 SSD and one 2.5" sata hdd. Will I encounter any problems?
2.5" HDD usually runs at 5,400 RPM, so it is significantly slower than those 3.5" 7,200 RPM HDD, not really a big deal since it is a limitation of the casing rather than the HDD itself, if your GPU is short enough then you can add a 3.5" HDD alongside with the GPU.

- I had a question about the monitor because I was struggling to find a solution for a portable screen; I then found the usb 15.6" AOC monitor from viewnet, so I guess I'm set (what do you think?)
No comment on this, just to let you know this particular monitor doesn't come with FHD resolution.

So my plan is; build the rig in june, get a nice full sized monitor and speaker to go along with it to play at home. Come September, I'll get the usb AOC monitor and logitech z120 speakers for transport to UK. I'll load the keyboard, speaker and maybe monitor (still thinking about this) into check in baggage and the precious rig into hand carry.

Am I crazy? Probably. This is all still theory, I might not go through with it (I'm supposed to be studying now dammit), but it's fun to plan now and I thought it'd be nice to share with you guys.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Need all of you guys' wisdom in this.

If I should post this somewhere else, do let me know.

Cheers!

Thanks so much for your input man. For psu, I've read that for sfx (specifically for this case) it's either modular corsair or bust. I saw someone recommend against silverstone sfx psu, and I unfortunately cannot find a modular sfx corsair psu on the pricelists. Yeah, I realize now the gpu I was going for is quite overpriced... About the zotac mini, aside from the smaller size and more manageable installation, any drawbacks/compromises from using a mini compared to a full sized 1070? Also, if I use this mini, can I fit a 3.5" sata hdd? And for the monitor, I knew I overlooked something... I guess I got too excited when I saw "usb" cause there's not many portable monitors available in the pricelists from what I can see. My option right now is an Asus mb168b+, and I currently cant find one online that ships to Malaysia. I'm planning to bring a 15.6" laptop with me, use that as a temporary portable monitor maybe? (idk if possible)

For 3.5" HDD, you'll need to use velcro tape if you go for Node 202, Silverstone RVZ02 doesn't need that as it comes with a dedicated slot and mounting screw holes (provided your GPU is short enough, max length is around 200mm, Gigabyte Mini ITX cards qualify for it).

Mini ITX GPU usually comes with a less powerful cooling system, so expect temperature to be slightly higher than normal card, most of the manufacturers reduce the clock speed of the card to overcome overheating issue, so in contrast, you are likely to be few FPS behind the normal card (probably 1 - 3 FPS which is not really that significant after all).

The airflow of Node 202 is pretty bad, I wouldn't recommend fitting a bulky 3.5" HDD inside unless you really need that storage space, external HDD is a better option in this case.

Editing and sometimes gaming
whats your take on this sifus?

Since gaming is not the main priority, you may want to consider switching to AMD Ryzen, they come with more cores and will be faster in video editing (provided the software you use for editing do utilize the multicore architecture of current gen processor).

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (8C16T, 3GHz base, 3.7GHz boost) - RM 1599
ASRock AB350 Pro4 - RM 469
G.SKill Aegis 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 550
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD - RM 464

Total: RM 3082 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)

Intel Core i7 7700 (4C8T, 3.6GHz base, 4.2GHz boost) - RM 1424
Gigabyte H270-HD3 - RM 515
G.SKill Aegis 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 2400MHz RAM - RM 550
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD - RM 464

Total: RM 2953 (ETECH price inclusive of GST)
