thank you very much guys. i want to ask, is it okay to use gigabyte gt 1030 oc for my useage? price around rm400
*
DOTA2 is more CPU dependent, I hear... and generally GT1030 is enough for MOBA type games

G5400 + GT 1030:
CSGO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTClEV7mkO8
DOTA 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IErbMZObrA
(High settings barely above 60fps)

If those look alright, then go for GT1030 and save about RM 200 compared to GTX 1050

Having said that... if they release new stuff for the games that need more GPU power, then you would feel the pinch.
So for 1080p high settings it is probably better to get at least GTX 1050, with option for GTX 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 6GB.

Would you consider buying R5 2400G? Much higher multi threaded performance.

The 2400G is armed with the far more impressive Vega 11 GPU. Still playable for casual gaming at 1080p and comparable with GT1030 performance.

Skip the GT 1030 and save some money for more powerful GPU upgrades.

That is a fair point. However the Ryzen path is often more costly due to pairing with faster ram, too.

ryzen 2400G (700)
B450 mobo (350-450)
8gb ddr4-3200 (380-420)

compared to

i3-8100 (450)
h310 (250-300)
8gb ddr4-2400 (280-300)
gtx 1050 (550)

I think the intel+nvidia still leads for gaming, by quite a margin.

Meanwhile, GN tested and noted that the older G4560+GT 1030 performs better than 2400G by itself. https://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/3261-...arks-vs-gt-1030

It may not suitable to ask all sifu here:

I want to buy Seagate Skyhawk 4TB Surveillance HDD to be used as for file storage purpose (photos/movies) in normal desktop hdd. It has 3 yrs warranty as compared to normal desktop HDD with 2 yrs warranty. Do you think is alright since it's designed for surveillance? Thank you.
*
Generally not a problem, but you pay more. Just like buying Xeons instead of usual i5/i7

If I just want to enjoy movie on preferably a 27” monitor, what are the minimum requirement for the build? Budget is around 3-4k.
*
Size is not the issue but monitor resolution and video file source.

Are we talking about 1080p or 4k display?
For video, is it Blu-ray playback? Compressed format? Netflix? Proprietary stuff?

Thanks for the reply, 1080p would be fine. Mostly stuff on netflix though.
*
Safe specs (not bare minimum):
i3-8100 with 8GB DDR4 on H310 motherboard, may not need GPU (at most add GT 1030), usual 1-2TB HDD, 400-500W PSU and casing
Maybe a NUC could handle it easily too.

Hey guys I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but is spending rm1600 for a year old non-mining 1070 ti worth it ? Would love some feedback. Thanks.

edit : it was strix 1070ti with 2 years left on warranty.
*
Hard for us to make such decision for you...
If YOU think the card is used well, with verified warranty, and worth RM1.6k then go for it!

His prices are for KL. We wont get it here in Kuching.
Also not yet count monitor price.

That is why i list some parts for you to ask different shops eg at Saberkas or OneTJ

idk bro..need to survey whole place here to look for the cheapest..or maybe a really2 trusted online seller for bundle/combine shipping price...
*
Well, each component maybe 2-5% more expensive (besides gpu), so might as well buy in Kch coz easier to handle warranty. That’s all I have to say.

Thanks for the reply sir. Btw, how if we put a 1080 in this system with mob (2 pcie lane) and get a flat monitor 27inch. Extra budget 500 -1000 is ok. Reason for another mobo is because want to have rooms for improvement in future. If you have a better idea, please recommend. Thank you
*
At 1080p, upgrading GPU from 1070Ti to 1080 will not give as big a boost compared to changing CPU from i5-8400 to i7-8700 and getting a good CPU cooler.

Thanks for the advice sir. Can we have a system build with i7-8700 and a gtx 1080 within the budget.... rolleyes.gif
*
I would recommend increase budget to around 7.5k++, as you would want to have better motherboard and CPU cooling system. Also better SSD.

1. LED strip
2. watercooling (ask ntct)
3. Add a theme (eg iron man colours, star wars, etc)
4. SLI

Put expensive SSD above your PSU shroud. Can show to people how Bangsawan you are  brows.gif

Get 4 x Samsung Evo 860 960gb SSD and run in raid 1+0 for higher speeds and adding redundancy...

Now that will impress people. You have money to burn and you don't care who sees it.

Rx 580 8gb is performing closer to gtx 1070.
It was popular among miners too.

maybe i'll upgrade my ram first. still using single channel sad.gif
btw mbr compuway sell ACER ED242QR at RM750 lol. might as well buy on lazada + shipping fee RM710..
*
But if having issues then need to ship all the way back to them.

QUOTE(Sentinel92 @ Oct 18 2018, 04:06 PM)
But if you're gonna get a Freesync monitor just get a AMD card anyways. Maybe snag a Sapphire RX580 for cash pricing to obtain a slight discount. Would still cheaper than getting a 1060 + a g-sync monitor, unless you don't mind buying 2nd hand in the garage forums, then buy whatever you want within budget.
*
If cost is an issue, just get Nvidia and forget about adaptive sync, I guess?

hi all,

need some help in replacing my dad's old rig... only a simple set up is needed...

[Budget] RM 1000 or lesser
[Purpose] Surfing, emails & YouTube
[Hardwares that will be re-use] Monitor, keyboard & mouse
[Monitor resolution] Reusing
[Games & softwares that use frequently] Outlook & Chrome

thanks in advance for all suggestions...

Easiest would be getting refurbished with adequate RAM and updated windows

Eg: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4607278
Ask for another 4GB RAM and get a windows 10 license from online sellers

QUOTE(zerohunter @ Oct 20 2018, 04:15 PM)
hi, i'm looking to build a casual gaming + movie rig with mixed of used + new parts. i'll be playing games like just cause, dragonball fighter, battlefield, far cry, and some car racing games, mostly single player games i'm already got a new LG29WK600 ultrawide freesync ips monitor. now i'm looking at the combination of

intel core i5 4th gen
8gb ddr3 x2
amd gpu (to utilize freesync)

i already got a hynix 256gb ssd standing by for my os drive, and 2 x 1tb for my media and storage.

my question, is the cpu good enough? which gpu i should get in order to play those games in highest setting.

i'm open to suggestion for full new build as well. welcome to recommend and comment
*
What is your budget? How much ram do you have now? The 16gb as listed? You might want to get at least RX580 8GB.

my budget is preferably around rm1500 for the gpu. so is the i5 4th gen and 16gb ram + sapphire rx580 8gb nitro+ enough to run those games in highest setting?
*
Hmm. Why don't you Google up individual games and see if there are gameplay videos, see if acceptable to you.

Far Cry 5 and Just Cause 4 calls for i7-4770 in recommended requirements

QUOTE(khaisha @ Oct 21 2018, 01:00 PM)
Hi..i would like to upgrade my pc, especially gc. Can u guys recommend gc for my pc?
Budget around 2.5k. Or any other parts that u guys think i should upgrade?
Pc use for gaming only.

current spec
Processor: Intel Core i5-3570K
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
RAM: Apacer 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHZ Value Ram
Graphic: Leadtek GeForce GTX660Ti 2GB
PSU: Cooler Master GX650 Bronze
HDD: WD 500GB
Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer Extreme Rev 2
*
In terms of GC, I suppose the GTX1060 6GB would be a good choice (around rm1250)

But for longer term solution, consider upgrade whole platform
Intel i5-8400 with B360 board and 8gb ddr4-2400 would cost around rm1400.

You could reuse other parts, eg PSU, HDD, casing

If you resell CPU+mobo+ram, then can go towards more ram and SSD. Also consider upgrading your PSU.
