Thanks ,from the video i dont really see much different
Only i notice intel having slightly higher fps but also slightly higher cpu usage ?
*
Intel platform will save you some headaches from getting compatible rams with your motherboard (and less need for faster ram like 3200)

Future upgradability seems better for Amd with support planned till 2020.

Then again, if you have a good CPU like i5-8400, probably won't feel the need to upgrade for a while. Much like the i5-2500k which was a legend for 5+ years

Actually i only play dota 2 ,i dont think need go for so extreme
And i also need to get a monitor also
Now in dillema going for which processor
*
That is why I suggested the i3-8100 for you... It is a good performer and adequate for Dota2.

Then you can also afford a 144Hz monitor around rm700-800. (Or just get a 75Hz gaming monitor).

i3-8100+1050Ti

7850 is slightly weaker than 1050Ti but won't be that far off.

I max also open 3 things only ,chrome , video player , dota 2
Your suggestions is great for me ,if the 8100 is enough to max setting for dota 2 , then i really planning to get a higher rate monitor
What if i decided to go with 8400 ,mobo same?
*
Same motherboard will fit. But 8400 kind of overkill for Dota2, for rm300 more. Having a better GPU will help you raise FPS better.

The new i3-8100 has 4 true cores, and comparable with i5-7400 in gaming

compare 7400-8100

But if you open chrome and use like 15-20 tabs then will be slower... Those are the tabs that KristalS means.

I dont use so many tab , normally use within 6 tab max also wont more then 10 tab
If we go for a new gpu ,it will cost me more then 300 ,hmm…
Think to go 8400 is in cast tiba2 come out dota 3 also cant handle ,but dont think this will happen la haha~
*
You could probably reuse your PSU too, as it can support 7850 previously.

Thus...

I3 8100 RM449
Asrock B360M Pro4 RM389
Stock CPU cooler
Kingston DDR4-2400 or 2666 8GB x1 RM 299
Apacer AS340 240GB RM179
2TB HDD RM239

Monitor: Acer XF240H RM850 (144Hz, 1ms)

Total: RM2405 (Viewnet, Sept 2018)

If you add GTX1050TI around RM 750, and sell your 7850 (RM 300-350?) then still within your 3k budget

In the future, if you want to upgrade, then can get the i5 or even i7, and add RAM to 16, and change to a more powerful GPU.

*
Hm... I am not too sure, not being from KL... probably ask around for any cyber cafes that use 144Hz monitors. Or check flagship stores that has demo units, preferably hooked up to a decent gaming rig

GC prices definitely came down a lot so yes it's not a bad time to build PC.

What about these:

CPU: INTEL CORE I7-8700 RM 1,325.00
COOLER: COOLER MASTER MASTERAIR MA410P RGB RM 139.00 (Optional but recommended)
MOBO: ASUS PRIME B360M-K RM 313.00
RAM: G.SKILL AEGIS SERIES 8GB DDR4 2666MHZ RM 349.00
SSD: SAMSUNG 250GB 860 EVO 2.5' RM 349.00
HDD: SEAGATE 3.5' BARRACUDA 1TB SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM RM 185.00
PSU: FSP 650W HYDRO GE 80+ GOLD FULL MODULAR RM 379.00
CASE: TECWARE NEXUS M RM 139.00

TOTAL: RM3,178 (E Tech PC prices)
*
Why not I5-8400 with a hyper212, 16gb ram and better casing? Looks like rave_merah will pair with high end card eventually.

QUOTE(Cryptic @ Sep 20 2018, 10:29 AM)
Hey guys, thanks for helping me build a new rig as my old one died (display suddenly turned light blue-ish, I then manually reset it, now when I switch it on, the display doesn't show anything. I have swapped monitors, GPU and RAM but nothing helped.)

My aim is to procure a value for Ringgit competitive gaming rig with hopefully a 144hz monitor (with adaptive sync). Future-proofing if possible.

Budget - 3k for now (inclusive of a 144hz monitor, may bump up the budget).

Purpose - Primarily for competitive gaming, followed by NetFlix and light work (excel, word, email, research).

Hardwares that will be re-use - Possibly the following 6 years old equipments - SSD (Crucial M4 128GB), 1TB HDD, Case (Cooler Master CM 690 II), PSU (SilverStone 700W), Cooler (Corsair H60). Will also be using my old keyboard, mouse and mousepad.

Monitor resolution - Currently FHD 60hz. Planning to swap to FHD 144hz with adaptive sync.

Games & softwares that use frequently - Overwatch, NetFlix & various single-player games (Doom for example).

Personal preferences - I lean slightly in favour of Intel due to good experience of the same. In regard to Nvidia vs Radeon, I am completely clueless in this regard save for Nvidia is needed for G-sync monitors whereas Radeon is needed for FreeSync monitors.

Location - Flexible as I am able to commute to Lowyat and/or Digital Mall (SS14)

Remarks - I am not the overclocking type. Also, I am the type who doesn't mind spending a little extra if it is worth it.

Thanks guys  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

So... after deduct monitor with adaptive sync then left with RM 2200?

Competitive gaming means like i5-8400 with RX580 then... but those will take up like 90% budget already. Not yet include RAM, motherboard

Unless you go with

i3-8100 (450)
GTX1060 6GB (1200) or Rx580 8GB (1400+) (https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2018-09-12-geforce-gtx-1060-vs-rx-580-7001)
H310 (280)
8GB DDR4 (300)

Then add Acer XF240H around RM750-800 (https://www.acer.com/ac/en/SI/content/model/UM.FX0EE.001)

Thanks bro for the extremely prompt response.

hmm.gif  hmm.gif If i bump up the budget up to 4k, can I go for the i5-8400 with RX580 w/ adaptive sync monitor?
*
I think so

For 4k budget:

i5-8400 (750)
B360 (370)
16GB DDR4 (600)
HDD+SSD Reuse
Casing+PSU Reuse
Acer XF240H (770)

Subtotal around RM2500

GPU (depends on brand and model):
GTX 1060 GB (RM 1150-1350)
RX 580 8GB (RM 1350-1650)
GTX 1070 is already end-of-life but some online seller may have it for RM 1500-1700

RM 4k is indeed possible for excellent gaming

I am not well versed with brands specs and support. Why not read online reviews for different models and decide which one is best value for you? Also read about shop after service and warranty claims for particular brands

[Budget] : 10-12k

[Purpose] : Gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] : Keyboard, Mouse

[Monitor resolution] : 1440p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] : AAA titles

[Personal preferences] : Acer X34P (are there better alternatives in that price range?) , Fractal Design R6

[Location] : KL

Hi Sifus, could I get a recommendation based on the above please?

Besides that, I have an existing 1440p monitor that I wish to use as a secondary monitor, mainly for watching other media while gaming etc. RTX seems rather disappointing price/performance wise so I guess a 1080Ti would be best, or would SLI with 2 1070s etc be more worth it?

Thank you!
*
With this budget, suggest to wait till Intel 9th gen is out and reviewed. Hold on another 3-4 months. Meanwhile, can buy a gtx1080 Ti and upgrade your old rig (still using your 3770k rig?)

Dell P4317Q is a 43" 4K Monitor which is equivalent to 4 x 21" FHD monitor.

Trading PC does require very fast and uninterrupted internet connection, good wifi card is needed. Fast M.2 NVMe but low storage should be adequate. fast cpu and 16GB RAM. Low power consumption, low heat generated and low noise as it might be running 24x7 depending on what he plan to trade. Backup power is essential.

Edit: Future Expansion would probably be another P4317Q, system should but not necessary capable to handle 2nd unit of P4317Q monitor. My thoughts.

This is overkill system but just a reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4xtEgM3mss

I am also curious to find out the specification. Thanks
*
Yeah, I googled the monitor specs
After checking some websites, I think maybe this will be ok:

Ryzen 7 1700 (1000)
B350 or B450 motherboard (350-550)
Compatible 16GB DDR4 (700-850)
Aftermarket CPU Cooler (200-450)*Can be air or AIO, depends on casing and desired cooling and noise
GPU can opt for RX580 8GB (1400-1650)*Try look for models that can have idle fans till certain temps reached
Fast M.2 SSD of 480-500GB (500-1200)
2TB HDD Storage (250-350)
Good 550-650W PSU (300-450)
PCIe AC1200 Wifi adapter (100-200)
Casing with good ventilation and fans (150-300)

For power backup, can get 1000+ VA UPS, multiple units so that one can dedicate for PC and one for monitor, speakers, etc. Better hook up emergency backup generator power, as UPS are not meant to last for over an hour.

Can go for the 9th gen

Going for RTX will increase price for not much performance gain at this moment. However, we shall see how well i9 and RTX work together.

If you want it cheaper, I suppose G5400 + H310 would probably be fine
Or consider Ryzen 2200g as a budget option

Alright. Will take a look H310M mobo  wink.gif
*
Online resources seem to suggest that G4560 is already capable of handling 4k movies (provided your motherboard has HDMI2 or using DP to HDMI2 adaptor), but some tried G5400 and claim that HDR is still slow, so maybe do a bit more digging.

Meanwhile, consider reusing some older PC (as long as 2nd gen intel core i3 or better), and add a graphic card like GT1030, RX550, GTX1050, RX560 or even GTX1050 Ti instead. Then use hardware decoding for the 4k movies.

Thanks for your info..but mostly mobo i checked only supports HDMI 1.4b with max. resolution 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz / 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz.. hmm.gif

For processor wise, I think will stick to I3 8100..
Checked I3 8100 only support max DDR4 2400mhz..which mean even mobo support 2666mhz and memory 2666mhz..it still running at 2400mhz right?
*
Memory speed is dictated by the motherboard chipset, not the CPU...

If you read the info, then i7-8700k only supports 2666? sweat.gif
https://ark.intel.com/products/126684/Intel...up-to-4-70-GHz-

Just check that your motherboard can support 2666, and enable XMP or similar settings in BIOS.

Hi sifus, any recommendation for the below:

[Budget] Not specified but as low as possible.

[Purpose] Would like to play PUBG in 1080p medium to high settings with 200fps

[Hardwares that will be re-use] 144hz monitor, keyboard, mouse, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 16GB RAM

[Monitor resolution] 1920x1080

[Games & softwares that use frequently] PUBG

[Personal preferences] Good ventilation

[Location] KL/Selangor
*
I saw somewhere that the FPS is capped to 144Hz so you cant get to 200fps.

Suggested config for 80-110 FPS at high/ultra and probably 144fps at medium:

i5-8400 (RM750-780)
GTX1070Ti or GTX1080 (RM 1950-2950)
B360 motherboard (RM 350-450)
Good 550-700W PSU (RM 350-500)
decent case and cpu cooler (around RM 400-600)
Reuse RAM, SSD, HDD, monitor

Total around RM 3800-5300

If RAM not compatible, 8-16 DDR4 is RM 300-600
