Thanks for the suggestions. How big is a Windows 10 install these days? Is 250GB for the SSD enough for Windows plus some reasonable programs. At least the games need to be on the SSD as well.

Also looks like the Gigabyte B250M-D3H is specifically for AMD videocards since it has Crossfire support. Wouldn't it be appropriate to get something specifically for NVIDIA cards since I'll be using my old GTX 970 at least for a while yet?
*
Nope. Windows 10 with latest update doesn't even hit 80GB with all my software and tools installed.

And motherboard does not favor Nvidia or AMD. Just that it doesn't support SLI because it doesn't have the SLI chip required for 2 or more Nvidia cards.

Hmm, the Gigabyte B250M-D3H also doesn't support CPU graphics, right? It's a rarely used feature but I have found it useful in the past when troubleshooting GPU problems and I don't have a spare GPU on hand. Any alternative to this?
*
It does support. i7-7700 comes with built-in GPU.

Huh. Checked it out together with some other motherboards and it said otherwise. Guess this site was wrong.

Hi all. I just bought a GTX 980 and I am now deciding on which CPU I should get. The options are:

i5 4460=RM480
i7 4790=RM780

Is the RM300 increase worth it? I am gaming at 1080p. Looking for best bang for buck.
Going to buy Asrock H81M-VG4 for RM120 to complete my rig. Thanks.
*
Yes, it is worth it. Games are getting more demanding....

3. STATE your purpose : gaming (mostly league of legends, overwatch, dota2)
4. STATE your intended purchase date : 2 - 3 months

I suggest wait 2-3 months then ask again. AMD Ryzen 5 could shake things up on prices.

Hello Sifus,

Looking for your advise or suggestions regarding upgrading my old build. Is the current specs good enough to just upgrade the GPU to a new GTX 1070 without changing anything else except maybe upgrading the RAM to 2x 8gb DDR3 rams? Would like advise on if doing this would bottleneck the card or not as well or if which parts could be upgraded to avoid that.

Or would it be better to just spend RM 3-4k on a completely new setup that would be good to last for another 3-5 years?

The rig will be mainly be used for casual gaming on games like far cry primal, star wars battlefront, diablo 3, overwatch etc. Looking to get around a stable frame rate of around 70-80 fps averagely for a 24" 1920 x 1080 screen. Of course higher would be better.
Old Specs-

CPU - CORE I7 2600 @ 3.4 GHZ
MOBO - ASUS P8P67 LE REV 1.03
RAM - 2 x 4Gb Corsair DDR3 1333MHz
SSD - Sandisk 128gb
HDD - wd10ealx-009ba0
GPU - MSI N560GTX TI TWIN FROZR II
PSU - CoolerMaster GX 650W
Case - Cooler Master Elite 430 Black
Monitor - Samsung syncmaster bx2450 - 24", 1920 x 1080 (Looking to upgrade this to a 27" or 31" Screen as well if possible)

Thank you!
*
You just need to upgrade your graphic card. GTX 560 Ti is not powerful enough to max out at 1080p for today's game.

Wow...5k that not include Windows right? Forgot to mention I maybe won't be overcloking CPU @ GPU. If lower the CPU will it bottleneck the GPU? Just bought an SSD also so can reuse that.
*
No windows.

GTX 1060 works fine with i5.

What more can I lower down to support GTX 1060? Or should I get GTX 1050 if on a budget? Need cut budget for monitor & windows.

For 1st time gaming rig build own or just get 2nd hand better?
*
Thats up to you. Wouldn't recommend lower than 1050 Ti for 1080p.

Remember, games will always get more demanding. Buy a new one if you can afford it.

Sorry asking noob question. Thanks for guiding this noob.

Thanks, but i prefer 1x 24inch and 1x acer predator.
Which one do you think I can cut off for addition budget to get predator?
*
Yeah, Acer XB241H is RM1999. You can go value RAM to save you around 200, 1TB hard disk will cut additional 100. There might be cheaper RGB case but I suggest you go to the shop and ask for suggestions.

I forgot about speakers. Do you prefer 2 or 4 speakers?

QUOTE(demetry @ Apr 15 2017, 02:27 PM)
hi tristanx, first off thanks for your recommendation.

i have researched on ryzen 7 vs i7k and decided to go for i7k due to better single threaded performance. Ryzen 7 is good for those apps designed to run multithreaded like video editing etc. So we have settled the CPU part.

Meanwhile, you can give me a close comparison or why u suggest MSI B350M Mortar, Corsair 8GB DDR4 and MSI GTX 1060 6GB DDR5?  It always my focus to "get all the spec info" and find the "best bang for bucks" from it. I do not mind to buy from czone if you are from czone, if you understand what i mean.

for monitor, lets skip for now as i still have no idea which to go.
*
Like you said, best bang for the buck. And I'm not from C-Zone. Please visit manufacturer's website for more details.

Hey sifus,

I planning to upgrade my com to last and support some latest games (destiny 2 XD).

I just upgraded my proc from fx6300 to i5 6500.

All in together with the Mobo ram I spend abt rm1300 TT.

My current GPU is a r9 270 dualx 2gb d5. Does this required an upgrade or it can still last a year more with medium quality gaming..

I think I blow too much of my budget on the cpu there.

If in need of an upgrade, what gpu would be best? The most value for money upgrade to my r9..
*
If you have no issues, don't bother upgrading further. if you do, Viewnet selling Leadtek GTX970 at RM949. That's very cheap.

QUOTE(Ji3MOON @ Apr 18 2017, 10:39 PM)
hello again guys..  biggrin.gif My bro just asking me about build a new pc or just upgrade some parts in his PC. I have no idea since so long didnt follow about PC news can u guys help me so i can suggest him a better option :-

This is his Wood  sweat.gif PC Spec :-
Proc : Intel Core i5 CPU 760@2.80Ghz 2.79Ghz
          Socket 1156 LGA
Mainboard : Gigabyte H55m-S2
Ram : DDR3 10 GB ( 8GB+2GB)
Storage : 750 GB
PSU : Cooler Master 650w 80+
GPU : GTX 470 JUST BURNED last month sweat.gif  so now using  Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS (Temporrary GFX)
Monitor : Samsung SyncMaster B2230
He normally play games like DOTA2, Street fighter V, Diablo III and CS GO. And he also doing some editing with Adobe Lightroom and Video Editing with Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas.
Should he build a new PC or should he upgrade some parts like new GFX, Add Ram or Add SSD ? if yes pls suggest which model and how much will be the cost is.  icon_question.gif and yes if build a new PC how much the cost it will be at least can steady around 5 years later  thumbup.gif
*
Getting GTX 1050 will significantly consume less power and more performance than GTX470. Should be around RM600 for it, Ti version is more powerful but it is RM100 more too.

RAM should still last for the rig. Adding ssd definitely will improve Windows experience and it will cost around 250-300 for 120GB.

Touching the CPU will involve motherboard and RAM. If there is no performance issues, I suggest you stick with it.
