Hi all sifu.

I would like to make a rig to support my workload.

The software that I had been using most of the time are Vray 3D Max , Autocad , Photoshop.

Would like to render the 3D efficiently rather than time consuming.

However I'm not sure the software is processor or graphic card intensive.

Hope all sifu could give me a hand on it.

And lastly.
My budget is 5000

Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you have any idea all these software is mainly processor or graphic card hunger ?

Try to look for forum to know more but so far couldn't.
*
Graphics design is always CPU > RAM > GPU. Ryzen 1700 has 8 core, 16 threads.

by any chance should i get more than 16gb like 32gb ram so i could multi task on the rig ?
*
16GB should be more than enough unless you wanna go nuts.

by any chance should i pump more money into the processor with higher clock speed and reduce my fund on the graphic card?
or i should distribute the fund well between both?

since another sifu mention that graphic design is always on processor > ram > gpu

Just see these review if 1700X is worth RM300 more or 1800X is worth RM900 more or not

http://www.anandtech.com/show/11170/the-am...-1700x-and-1700
http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-r...0-review,1.html
http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/cpu/103270-a...-1700-14nm-zen/

Bare in mind 1700X and 1800X requires you to buy heatsink as well.

QUOTE(bl@ze @ Mar 31 2017, 10:49 AM)
Hey guys I got a new job so I will be travelling a lot more for work. Need your help to suggest a good build for my purpose. [Budget]
Doesn't matter as long as fits my purpose.

[Purpose]
Gaming while outstation and also something I can just plug in when I go home. I currently have an outdated 900D build with all the bells and whistles but it weighs 30kg.

[Hardwares that will be re-use]
None. Maybe a couple of SSD. Peripherals and monitors are all there though.

[Monitor resolution]
Planning to use a projector when travelling or hdmi to the hotel TV. My home monitor is the XR341CK but I have no problem selling it off and buying the Gsync version

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
Most often Battlefield, Overwatch and Rainbow Six Siege. I do play a lot of other games like Hitman and even emulators.

[Personal preferences]
I would really like a portable system that I can just carry and transport easily in my car and when I get home just plug into my USB hub and monitor.  But at the same time I don't want to compromise on power. Please help me dear sifus =D

Yeah, you can get MSI GTX 1080 Ti 11GB DDR5X FE at RM3699

If you wanna squeeze every bit of performance, you can switch to these

Core i7-7700K - 1579
Noctua NH-L12 - 285
ASUS ROG STRIX Z270I GAMING - 1003

No Ryzen ITX motherboards yet.

Thanks bro. Yeah it  seems to be unrealistic ..

Compare 1060 and RX 480 ? Which one would you recommend ?

And Micro ATX and Mini ITX ? May I know what's the diff ? I am travelling around and do hope to have a smaller chassis .. That's why i wanted liquid cooling to cool down the hardware ..

Did not realise that Mini ITX is even smaller. Would actually like to have mini ITX now lol.
*
GTX 1060 6GB definitely faster and consumes less power, more expensive too.

Currently no ITX motherboard available for Ryzen. You have to go Intel path for it. ITX is also more expensive to build.

Core i7-7700 - 1399
Asrock B150M-ITX - 359
Kingston Value 2x16GB DDR4 RAM RM998
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC RM1299 [Ehhh, you want fastest? GTX1080 Ti costs 3599]
Intel 600p 512GB SSD RM886
Hitachi 2TB HDD RM429
Silverstone SFX 550W - 499
Silverstone ML08B case - 339 (estimated)

RM6208 total (changed parts prices from Viewnet)

Kindly take note Ryzen 7 will blow i7-7700 away on multitasking.

AMD Ryzen 7 1700 - 1599
MSI B350M Mortar - 480

RM5263 total (C-Zone prices)

Hunt for cheap office and windows from lelong and garage sales. I still advise not getting full SSD because it is not budget friendly.

Noticed that you like to recommend Ryzen 7 1700. Not sure how it is compared to i7 7700k ?

In terms of stability ? I am sure Ryzen 7 1700 is faster than 7700k right ?

Whats the pro and cons for each processor ?
*
Ryzen 7-1700 Pros:
8 cores 16 threads (Should rollover i7-7700K when apps and games utilizes it)
Unlocked for overclocking (may require motherboards with better VRM and better heatsink)

Cons:
Low clock speed is bad for single thread performance
Slower for today's gaming performance

Core i7-7700K Pros:
Very high stock clock speed (Better for single threaded performance)
Intel optimized apps and games
Unlocked for overclocking (may require motherboards with better VRM and better heatsink)

Cons:
4 cores 8 threads

QUOTE(dryll @ Apr 4 2017, 11:50 PM)
Hi all,

Been out of the customizing game for far too long with work and whatnot so need some help here on upgrading my 8 year old rig. I'm looking to upgrade my rig for work.

[Budget] 2000-3000, perhaps even top up from selling my current rig (maybe about 1.5k more?)

[Purpose]  I'm a creative director for an agency, so will need use Adobe's CC quite abit. Ill also need to run some serious Excel spreadsheets

[Games & software that use frequently] Adobe CC, LOTS of MS Office

[Personal preferences] Looking to get out of the world of AMD and dive into the i7 Kaby Lake and need suggestions on what i should change and what i can keep as i find my rig is not performing up to par and my SP4 is faster.

[Location] Setia Alam

My current build (about 8 years old now except for the mobo which i just changed last year) :
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955BE
Heatsink: Thermalright TRUE Black
Mobo: ASUS M5A99X Evo R2.0
HDD: WD Caviar Black 1TB
GC: Sapphire ATi hd4870
PSU: VANTEC 620C
Casing: Cooler Master HAF 932
RAM: Dont know what brand DDR3 1333 2GB X 2 and recently bought 1x ADATA Premier DDR3L 1600 8GB

No need for a monitor as i already have 2 and am happy with them.

Thanks in advance!

Reuse the rest of the parts

RM3954 total (C-Zone prices)

Optional:
Super Flower Leadex Gold 550W (high quality PSU) - 429

Much more powerful than your current and consumes significantly less power. You can find cheap Windows 10 Pro on lelong or Garage Sales.

But if you wanna insist on overpriced i7-7700K due to our distributors reluctant to drop the price, you can go for these

Core i7-7700K - 1579
Coolermaster Hyper 212X - 189 (not needed if your existing TRUE black has mounting for LGA 1156 or 1155)
Gigabyte Z270X Gaming K5 - 899

Gigabyte GTX 1050 Ti 4GB DDR5 - 719

hi plz help need some advice/suggestion, im currently using :

4790 [non k]
16gb ddr3
980 ti
small ssd [128gb] for windows
1tb black hdd
1x 4k@60 monitor + 1x 1080@60

is it worth it to buy a whole new pc (thinking of cpu like 7700k/ryzen1700, gpu 1080ti, 16gb ddr4, no reuse parts) or just upgrade parts (gpu & add another big ssd for games)? i scare buy new pc the improvement is minimal & is a waste of $
*
You need to upgrade your GPU if you want more performance for 4k gaming. The rest is fine.

[Games & softwares that use frequently] - casual dota, some AAA title games casual

[Personal preferences], include ssd,
Cpu: i5 7400 - RM810

Ram :8gb (brand & cost??)
Mobo:.?
Gpu : 1060 6gb (zotac mini-RM1130,zotac amp-RM1230, msi normal 6gb version-RM1210) difference in temperature how much Celsius for mini vs amp??
Ssd :?? 128gb (brand & cost)
Psu:.?? Saw (RM189 for fsp hyper k 80+ white 500) is it suitable?
Case:??
Monitor: 23inch?? (asus vc239n price??, LG 23mp68vq, Samsung cf130) many option dunno which is good or bad...
*
Would not recommend SSD at start of the build because you get more performance maxing out the base hardware. Anyway, price changes every week unless you plan to buy part by part from cheapest sellers.

Try looking for these

C-Zone sells Corsair 8GB DDR4-2133 at 260
Gigabyte B250M-D3H (medium priced motherboard)
Corsair VS 550W (usually higher prices comes with better internals)
Casing is up to you
Also, monitor is up to you.

4. STATE your intended purchase date : asap

Option 1:
Visit Garage Sales for second hand if you want dirt cheap ones.

Option 2:
Any RM100ish graphic card will do for a new one.

hi thanks very much for suggestion, after asking a few people i think i will just upgrade parts [gpu & ssd] as cpu [4790 to 7700 & ddr4] wont impact much at 4k

but if u dont mind can give me a build budget around 8~9k [rig only], just want to know what i can get for that price. i live at klang and thrs literally no good pc shop here, and i will have to go kl to quote price and such  doh.gif
will use the format u guys suggest, thanks very much  smile.gif

[Budget] 8~9k [rig only]

[Purpose] mostly gaming, sometimes capture and edit for fun, sometimes drawing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] monitor, mouse, keyboard, speaker, controller

[Monitor resolution] currently using 2 monitors - 4k@60hz and 1080@60hz

[Games & softwares that use frequently] 1.mostly mmos like ff14 wow tera black desert etc 2.overwatch diablo3 csgo hots hearthstone 3.some steam indie games and random titles 4.rarely play gtav and some other aaa titles
software - obs / nvidia shadowplay / amd playstv for capture, photoshop, clipstudio paint, sai tool paint

[Personal preferences] - amd intel nvidia is fine for me, but it would be great if u can give me 2 build [1 intel/1 amd] for comparison
- would hope if can put 5k+ in just cpu and gpu, the rest will go to other parts
- dont care bout the looks at all [but if got some extra $ dont mind put in some rgb and such] < would like to have very good cooling case
- dont prefer any water cooling inside the case [unless neccessary] < prefer beastly big air cooler [dont care bout light and such]
- never done oc before, so probably wont do it and can be ignore

You may want to overclock Ryzen setup because for some reason, it bottlenecks GTX 1070 and higher. Very likely Nvidia haven't optimize the driver for it.
