For MS Office, you dont need i5 or 6-8 threads, or 16GB RAM  sweat.gif

You actually need if your excel file is 100MB+ using today's format. Especially when you are working on a big company. You might be able to get away with 8GB RAM though.

Yeah. Well, those companies won't be asking about custom quotes, I think smile.gif

They should have proper databases and not rely on Excel alone, too.

I am often irritated when dealers offer PCs with specs using i7 but only 4GB RAM.

Yeah, they did not ask. i7, 8GB RAM but 32-bit Windows. Pretty much stucked with 3GB RAM. lol

Account department relies on Excel a lot. Other apps like Word can go up to hundreds of megabytes due to Mail Merge.

Yup, I hope they push their IT department to have a proper PC on every user.

I hope most IT support are savvy enough to know what users need... or ask here in lowyat tongue.gif

I have only tried excel files of 15-20MB. So am not too sure how bad is the crunch (only 8GB ram on my laptop)

Hi folks, I have been using laptops for years now and this will be my first proper PC build. Will be using it just like I would on a laptop but with more power and changeability down the road.

B][Budget] RM3000

[Purpose] Browsing, gaming, and basic computing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] No idea

[Monitor resolution] 1920x1080

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Chrome, Steam, and Microsoft Office.

[Personal preferences] Possible to build small form factor with this kind of budget?

[Location] Penang

CS:GO, Rocket League, Tomb Raider series, Need For Speed. I just want to play Low-Medium with stable framerates. Gaming laptop heats up way too fast.

Hmm... You could follow TristanX's i3-8100 rig and get a gtx1060 6gb rather than get a cpu upgrade. You could balance out with cheaper mouse and keyboard, and maybe slightly cheaper psu (ensure decent build). Or just grab a used graphics card.

Try find a slim matx casing. That would give you more room to work with, cheaper motherboard, and better ventilation options.

Nice. Think can be lower as I already have keyboard and mouse. Also headphones.

Okay. Duly noted.

So should I first hunt for a case? Then motherboard? Or can buy parts at random order? Afraid of compatibility issues.

Hello sifus, I'm looking to build a budget streaming PC of the below:-

[Budget] RM1K-2K
[Purpose] Streaming (dual-monitor setup)
[Hardwares that will be re-use] Have a used monitor and old PC's i5-2500K and GTX580, if advisable to reuse
[Monitor resolution] 1920x1080
[Games & softwares that use frequently] Wish to stream at 1080p 60fps @ 2500-3500 kbps

Appreciate your advice for most budget streaming PC that can also be disposable as mediocre gaming PC (run games at low/medium). Thx in advance smile.gif

If you are looking to build it yourself, dont start with a small case for your first build. Choose something like a midtower with more space to work in. Make sure it has features like usb3, and enough ventilation.

Also make sure that your motherboard will fit inside, usually m-atx wont have much issues. Another thing to observe is the graphic card length, which may cause headaches in smaller cases. slim builds also may force you to choose cards with low profile brackets. Stock coolers that come with cpu are usually not too big, but adequate for average users.

Other than space inside case, you could just follow parts listed, as recommendations need to follow compatibility too. buying from same shop usually gets you a bundle discount too.

Can we know what is your current specs besides i5-2500k and gtx580?
From what I see online, you need more threads and graphic muscles for streaming smoothly.

I am using i5-6500 and GTX1060 6GB currently and is satisfied with the gaming gear. Just would like to explore an additional optimal budget streaming PC since streaming on 1 PC gives input delay/lag when playing.

I think I'm using the old PSU/RAM/harddrive (previously had to change mobo, CPU and graphics when intended to upgrade the graphics). Thankful for your input

You could make your comparisons at the various shops or even doing a search on Lazada/Shopee, etc. That would be faster than asking here smile.gif
