Yup, Optane caches your selected disk for most frequently used files. My experience with Optane 32GB + WD Black 500GB 2.5" is great

If you use SSD as OS drive, then you only get performance boost when you access your hard disk more often.

So overall its recomended?
Will 16 gb be enuf?

If you dont have SSD based as OS drive, yes. If you got SSD for OS, depends on how much you access your hard disk. 16GB is small for a cache disk.

Those SSDs with no DRAM cache are just faster than hard disk. Nothing special. Crucial MX500 has the best price/performance at the moment.

how to know if there are DRAM or not?

Hi all, thanks in advance for the help.

Budget: blank slate, but i think for my requirement it should not be that pricey gua...

Purpose: torrent box, home network storage

Hardwares that will be re-use: none

Monitor resolution: not important

Games & softwares that use frequently: will run on linux with torrent client and NAS

Personal preferences: low energy consumption? Slots for HDD

Location: PJ

Or am i better off with a NAS enclosure?

You could try with UNRAID rather than using RAID on motherboard (https://unraid.net/)

AMD A6-9500: RM 205
Asrock AB350M HDV: RM 265
Kingston DDR4-2400 4GB: RM 168
Cooler Master MWE 400W: RM 150
Cooler master Elite 311: RM 165
(Prices from Jayacom)

Actually, I was thinking FM2 based system such as (A88XMA) would be better with more SATA HDD supported, but harder to find in shops.

Please tell us your PSU model. if got 24-pin and 4/8-pin (depends on motherboard) connector, it should work. Your graphic card also affect the PSU capacity you need.

Could consider these:

https://mall.shopee.com.my/TP-LINK-20TL-WN8...8383.1192687793

https://mall.shopee.com.my/TP-LINK-20300Mbp...80984.224397300

2nd option requires you to open up your pc and insert into the pcie slot. Whereas first option is just plug and play smile.gif
*
For now i think i will settle with first option sweat.gif

300Mbps, alright, looks like a good deal, thanks. initially wanna buy those with antennas, but i think for now i will go with your suggestion. nod.gif
