I'd expect Zen 5 to be priced as expensive as Zen 4 X3D. As for anything that meet TS's budget... not so soon.  laugh.gif
*
There is one more option. Higher res shifts bottleneck on GPU anyway.

AMD Ryzen 5 5600 - 508
Asrock B550M Pro4 - 449
G.Skill Aegis 16GB DDR4-3200 X2 - 340
Gigabyte RX 7800 XT 16GB Gaming OC - 2669
Kingston KC3000 1TB - 465
MSI A750BN - 299
Lian Li A3-mATX case - 329

RM5059 total (Shopee prices)

Well TS is doing AI training, so RTX4060 Ti 16GB is the way to go for that price range.  mega_shok.gif

Just look for discount and swap to RTX 4070. Easy.

Actually that is a downgrade from 4060 Ti with reduced VRAM.  biggrin.gif
There will be cases where a model needs more than 12GB VRAM to run, where 4070 will be out of question even with more cores.
*
Well, you can't have everything with low budget. I just don't like that 128-bit bus on 4060 Ti.

With die shrink becoming increasingly more difficult, price hike is more likely to happen as well. Look at today's cards, best cards pulling more than 400W. Miss the days of high end cards pulling less than 200W. All because of competition and die shrink issue.

Techyescity predicted Blackwell flagship will go up in pricing further than 4090 all the way up to USD $1800 just coz of AI, so this could mean the entire stack of 5000series might bump up in pricing.

Until PS6 or next gen comes out. 16GB cards will be enough for me. Still resisting 4k resolution!

Asrock B550M Pro4 - 449
Gigabyte RTX 4070 Super 12GB - 3168

Optional:
Kingston KC3000 1TB - 465 (for blazing fast loading speed)

I forgot 5700X3D doesn't come with cooler. Just add Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE at around RM140. It will get the job done easily.

Just checked. Super flower 750w. Thanks for reminder.
Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Appreciate them, will hunt for a good price and do the upgrades.

Question regarding Asrock B550M pro4 mobo. Is it worth to get one with WiFi as part of it or just buy a WiFi dongle would do?

Do you have any recommended DDR4 RAMs ? I just found out that my current 8gb x 2 (HyperX) and 8gbx2 (adata) are incompatible...

Can I get 16gb x 2 HyperX and combine my current 8gb x 2 hyperX ?
*
Just get PCIE Wifi 6 card. It will get the job done.

Mixing RAM size will make it incompatible. It may cause stability issues too. Try G.Skill Aegis 16GB DDR4-3200 X2. Sell the rest of the RAM off.

How about these?

Core i5-14500 - 1189

MSI B760M-A Pro Wifi - 649
G.Skill Aegis 16GB DDR4-3200 X2 - 350

I would advise increasing a bit more budget for KC3000 2TB at RM755 since you play a lot of games. Game install size becoming bigger and bigger.

There is Lazada sale ending tonight. You might wanna buy some parts first.

Because I see some twitch streamer their pc are super fast and snappy when switching between tabs with so many tabs and program running. I sure they using top spec CPU and GPU which is out of my budget, hoping I can save a few thousand off bcs I dont need a top of the line GPU..

Wait for Intel Arrow Lake in around 4 months time. Then pick a poison. If Arrow Lake is really 20A (2nm), it will be another Sandy Bridge (like Proton car suddenly got upgraded to Ferrari).

QUOTE(Dark Lord @ Jun 27 2024, 11:59 PM)
It's been a decade since I build a desktop. So, need some advice on building a new one from scratch.

[Budget] RM10k on the rig (can stretch a few hundred bucks if needed)

[Purpose] AAA games and machine learning works.

[Hardwares that will be re-use] None

[Monitor resolution] 2560x1440

[Games & softwares that use frequently]
Latest games
Most machine learning libraries for python, mainly for testing, debugging, building packages or docker images before pushing to cloud.
Might need to use video editing software for creating demos, etc.

[Personal preferences]
Must be NVIDIA GPU and Intel CPU. Can last at least 2 years, prefer 4 years (or more?).

[Location] Subang Jaya, Selangor.

I have done some research myself and found aftershock my website. Tried to build using their website as follow:

Link to the built rig

Chassis AFTERSHOCK Rapid 2023
* CPU Intel Core i7-14700KF | 20 Cores 28 Threads
* CPU / System Cooling Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB - Black
* Motherboard Gigabyte B760M Gaming X AX DDR5
* RAM 32GB ADATA Lancer RGB DDR5 6400MHz CL32 (16x2)
* Graphics Card Zotac RTX 4070 Super Twin Edge OC - 12GB
* Thermal Compound Premium Enthusiast Grade Thermal Compound
* Primary SSD 2TB Lexar NM790 Gen4 SSD (R: 7400 | W: 6500)
* Chassis Fans X5 Thermalright TL-C12C-S 120MM ARGB Fans
* Power Supply Unit 850W Deepcool 80+ Gold
RM9586 (RM10,286 before discount)

1. Please let me know if I should change any of these options to a different one or be aware of something. Like, I have seen articles about gigabytes motherboards had some issues but was fixed, iinm. Aftershock not providing different brand anyway. So, if someone can enlighten me.

2. Regarding vendor, I bought laptop from aftershock SG before, but never in MY. It seems in MY, they rebranded multiple times and they are not so active here too. And using the search function in lowyat, doesn't seem people talk about them too. Are they ok? Or are there better vendors? If provide delivery service better.

3. I will get a new monitor too. (Not included in the budget I mentioned above.) I suppose 27" makes sense? Please recommend a budget brand that has good quality too.
*
Can you wait a few more months? AMD 9000 series is coming out and possibly, Intel CPUs with massive performance jump in 4-5 months.

If Arrow Lake is built using 20A (2nm), definitely not 15% boost. It will be a lot more than that.

I see. Unfortunately, aftershock don't have most of these options. I will play around with idealtech website.
For now, my dilemma is, do you think it is better to wait for 15th gen intel cpu like TristanX mentioned?
For 15th gen, we will need to use new motherboard, am I right?
*
If you can wait, yes. New boards will be using LGA 1851 socket.

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Jun 28 2024, 05:19 PM)
Idealtech likely to be a bit better, but just by a bit with more choices. Have you tried asking sifu Myway here? If you firmed your build even Adamtayy can do for you as long as you dont let him change anything. Subang side you may wanna check out Dotatech too but you will need ask them to build for you.

As for your dilemma, its an easy answer; can you wait or not? If not, no need ask. And likely next gen stuff is overpriced at launch so your budget may need to up somemore.

Or you can try hedge the new launch in hopes 14th gen will get a nice price cut but many sellers will keep minimum stock when that happens too so you may find running out of stock for certain parts you want. Double edge risk there.
*
If next gen Intel uses 20A (2nm), performance boost will be massive. You might not even need i9. Current Intel CPUs uses 10nm. At 2nm, Intel can stuff 5 times the transistors. Thats significantly more performance on the table. Its the matter of how efficient they want and how far they wanna go.

The prices will also be significantly higher right?
*
Its hard to say. Intel Sandy Bridge is cheap despite have much more performance than AMD when they got a jump in performance.

Main issue is motherboard pricing. Its expensive on both AMD and Intel.

Intels Tick Tock node shrinks havent been smooth sailing the past few years, going from 14++++++ to 10Nm to 7nm was torture and Meteorlake was supposedly 14th gen and also supposed to be a dry run for chiplet but the scale back in performance (6Pcores only WTF?!) vs Raptor meant Intel had to ditch desktop version and upturn their product planning by bringing forward Arrowlake a year ahead and now got no choice but to make a good bang with ARL. If it was as successful as Alderlake, they got a winner but that was when AM5 was still 1 year before launch. Now the competition is tougher.

Intel strategy of ramming in moar powah cannot continue as since with 2nm chiplet if they try boosting to 300W like KS spec, it would be nearly impossible to cool even with 420 AIO as the heat surface contact will be far much smaller. I see Cove Pcores have ady run their distance, there is no more performance efficiency left for Intel to squeeze and they will need a new chip uarch to ramp efficiency to beat Zen uarch.

TLDR I have said before aim for Arrowlake since Meteorlake will be pioneer iteration. Now MTL is down, ARL is the desktop pioneer I would suggest skip that and wait for Intel to maturise everything then shoot for Lunarlake.
*
If you didn't know, die shrinks uses less power and packs more processing power. Intel able to keep up with AMD with 10nm. Imagine with that massive die shrink to 2nm. Ryzen 9000 at 4nm by the way.

Im referring to core efficiency. You can shrink Raptor Cove down the node but if you dont change uarch, a 2nm sized RC core will perform the same as current 7nm Raptorlake where Intel have to ramp up power usage just to compete. And if a much smaller 2nm sized core has to dissipate 300W of power the thermal density will be far higher than current 7nm die size (imagine trying to cool down 100oC on a 1cm2 square vs the same on a 1inch2 square, which you think its easier for a cooler to absorb that heat load?)

Traditionally a downshrink node will lead to more cores, or bigger L3 cache, or better APU, or new stuff like NPU/AI. For next gen CPU to have better power efficiency will need a redesign uarch.

Sandy Bridge was a huge leap over Westmere not because of node shrink (it shares the same as Westmere) but because it was fundamentally uarch different than Nehalem which Westmere based on.

Nehalem was 1st gen Core, SB was 2nd gen. So if anything to go by I would say wait for chiplet 2nd gen (after Arrowlake) to really see that SB leap.
*
I highly doubt they will tune it at 300W. With that significant increase of performance on the table, they can do it with around half the power budget and still can overtake the competition.

QUOTE(Dark Lord @ Jun 29 2024, 10:49 AM)
What are the reasons for the CPU and mobo choice here?
*
Video editing. Adobe loves Intel Quick Sync. Mobo is to support the more cores from i7-14700. VRM can handle it better.

You can go with F CPU if you don't need backup GPU and don't use Intel Quick Sync.

You can find KC3000 2TB at RM755. Or you can just wait for 7.7 sale and buy the SSD or some parts separately.
