I bought the X96 MAX+ , simply for the 1000M port that comes with it. X96 Max+ is a subscription based tvbox if you want to have live TV Channels. But otherwise, playing downloaded movies (range from 2160p onwards) from a home server is much easier and efficient becoz of the gigabit LAN port.

For Live TV channels especially from CN/HK/MY, i still have to use the UBTV from Ubox pro2. But too bad UBTV seems to be a proprietary app that only works in Ubox?

For CN/HK/MY tv channels, are there any free apps that anyone can recommend ?

my plan is to let the android box passthrough the dolby atmos sound to the soundbar, instead to the tv and then to the soundbar.

i'm not planning to get new tv with dolby passthrough because its too expensive.

Yep.. AFAIK, theirs is a proprietary app for their boxes and I don't blame them for making it such. Can double dip, make money off both hardware and software. Also thanks for sharing the info about the X96 MAX+. Do come back and update as you find out other things about it. It should help others who are looking for such boxes to make an easier decision.

Normally where Netflix is concenred. Generally we here all agree on having a capable TV and using their app instead for best results. However, since we all can't simply go out and buy the best Netflix TV out there. Have to rely on third-party boxes. what do u guys think of this box ? or is there any tv box you'd recommend me to get ? would like to know if its a good choice before i pull a trigger purchasing it from shopee

*the tv box that i am using right now is a mxqpro 4k, been using it for quite long time, but recently it can't perform well anymore and i suspect it's due to its 1gb ram.

*usually i use my tv box purely for streaming and watching dramas only, no gaming at all. usually stream on DirecTV now apk, or ic drama on kodi

*im also familiar with android root access and stuff like sideloading , so i'd prefer a tv box that doesn't preload a lot of useless stuff, and i can just sideload what i need only

You can trying using VLC player or KM Player to play WEBM format..

Netflix? No it can't... 4K media files? Yes.

Several boxes should be able to support this format. Tested using Kodi & VLC on the Beelink GT-King Pro.. No issues playing the test files. Downloaded test files from here and here. From the screenshots, you can see that they are pretty low res files. I didn't both seeking higher res webm files as the goal was to confirm the format can be played. Let me know if you have more demanding files to confirm smooth playback.
