guys....i am interested to do this. BDMV/ISO files stored on a NAS. I need a Android TV box capable of mapping to NAS to get the BDMV/ISO files. I heard Kodi can do it but I am a total idiot when it comes to these things. Himedia q10 pro and the minix u9-h can do this (so they tell me).

Which one to get ?

Grateful for any assistance rendered. thanks

Yeah.. Sunvell, call em manufacturer or brand.. Thing is, it's not as established like Minix, HiMedia, Zidoo, Wetek, Nvidia, etc. These guys are well-known and have massive rep to protect and so are more careful with what they release. Ordinarily, I wouldn't recommend a box with less than 16GB ROM (storage), like the Q5 Pro & X8 with 8GB... But at least, they are better built and supported devices compared to the Sunvell box with 16GB ROM. Performance-wise, its acceptable.. See below for the Sunvell i speak of:
Gearbest page..

Yup, both devices can handle such.. Kodi performs better on the Minix Neo U9-H vs the HiMedia Q10 Pro. The Q10 Pro is catching up though with its latest firmware and Kodi V17.5 update. So that's something to consider..

Is there a special way or another way to setup for BDMV/ISO file ? Compare normal MKV/MP4/AVI file ?

Yesterday just finish setup the kodi map to the NAS. The scrubbing take some time. I still don't like the way of kodi map the NAS folder. Have to find a way to work around it.

Youtube have plenty of tutorial.

Tanix TX9 Pro 3gb/32gb S912 processor with T820-MP GPU looks good for under $60 on GearBest. Has nice interface with android 7.1 and passthrough surround.

YouTube.. Google.. There's a dedicated Kodi thread right here on Lyn too.. Did I mention YouTube?... Really, it may take sometime, but you'll get the hang of it..

Yes.. BDMV, ISO, MKV, MP4 and AVI... There are differences. The last three are containers with mkv being the more popular format today as it can better handle the latest h.265 compression format.. AVI is the oldest and faced limitations like the inability to add subs inside it. Mp4 still remains relevant somewhat as it's still the most compatible with devices old and new.

BDMV stands for Blu-ray Disc Movie Information, is basically an information file that contains the information about the contents of a Blu-ray disc, but doesn't actually hold the actual multimedia files themselves. Think of it as a special txt file that tells the player how the disc is setup... What actually holds the audio and video content are the the MTS/M2TS file. To be able to read the bdmv file and it's accompanying files requires more specialized software than regular iso.

The Tanix like the Sunvell may very well be a good device. However, my top priorities when choosing a device are after sales community, future stable software updates and app compatibility. Based on such, none of the suggested 6 boxes would have even made the cut. smile.gif

Thanks for the explanation. I do understand the format. Have all this format in my NAS.

I don't like the BDMV/ ISO as the file size are damn big. With many rubbish inside. Prefer straight into the movie source.

Since in the middle of setting up the Kodi with the NAS, I thought require some setting for BDMV/ISO file. Different from the usual format.

Not sure if you have already gotten it. But I would highly recommend going for one of their streaming boxes rather than the stick. The stick is slow.

There's a reason for the bigger size. Superb quality! One is basically cloning the entire Blu-ray disc, with menus, various sound formats, sub languages etc. Wouldn't call it rubbish as that's the highest quality one can get and my eyes & ears always thank me for it smile.gif.. Alternatively, you can rip as remux..Basically, pick and mix one of everything (I.e English subtitle + DTS HD-MA + h.264 video) into one mkv file for easier playback. This gives a smaller file size. Want even smaller? Compress video to h.265 format and you can get almost half the size without losing any quality.

Nope, just set up the NAS and Kodi as usual.. Be it BDMV folder, MKV, MP4 or ISO, Kodi and some other video players, as long as van connect, are able to play it back. You need to focus more on improving the LAN speed & bandwidth (Gigabit is mainstream) and getting a high performing media box.

In addition to voncrane's comment above, I would like to add that NFS shares perform much faster than standard SMB/Samba shares.

You will need to learn how to set it up for your specific NAS but its worth setting up NFS especially for bigger files.

I don't mind the movie file size. I do want the pic and sound quality. The rubbish file I mean is the Multi subtitle, Multi language, some sample trail, director cut etc. Which bundle together if a ISO file. So I prefer just the movie source.

I prefer a file that doesn't compress heavy. As raw as possible. So normally I will keep the MKV instead of ISO file.

I haven't go into deep yet for the kodi. But I found some lack of stream speed on kodi (movement jerking) or the hardware player maybe. But fine on my old media player.

I already have a gigabit Lan using switch and agregrated Lan NAS. The bandwitdh speed is more than enough for several media player.

See page one.. On Android, nothing like "jailbreak". Even unrooted, quite okay.

You don't need to root the box to get it working.

Mine comes pre-rooted and I wish it wasn't. sad.gif

let me generalize typical movie file for public.

Best audio and video quality = bluray or iso file

Balance = those movie ripped by RARBG team

Smallest file size (priority: 1.size > 2.video > 3. audio) = those movie ripped by YIFY team

You can use Kodi or supporting file managers such as ES File Explorer. Get on google/youtube and search.. If you got a NAS, you should be tech-savvy enough to figure the rest of the s**t out easy..

On how to play BDMV/ISO.. read back a couple pages.
