voncrane, AVFAN...

On Kodi forum, someone did a quick PQ comparison... he said can't tell much difference between U9-H, Shield, Mi Box, X9S...but he said will do a more in depth one... I'm slowly going through the next 100 odd posts... I think Q10 vs U9 is enough laugh.gif no need A10 & X10

My friend came back for a visit from the USA...just can't bring myself to get the Shield yet... probably just delaying the inevitable... lol...

if just about picture quality, one can only tell the difference using same 4k or 4k hdr tv and playing back the best files.

for common <10gb movie files and online streams on a 1080p tv, i don't think one can see or say much.

if someone will lend me a u9, i can test. laugh.gif
*
...objectively should test at 4K, 1080, 720, 480 as not all source/files are 4K...and for both 4K and FHD TV...

Best if can have the pictures side by side... smile.gif

Thanks bro. But even a old model like H8 plus would be an over kill? Just to be on the safe side l, I'm actually planning to have a bit of future proof for software update and download.

But if you have to choose from either H96 Pro+ or H8 plus, what would you choose? What are the pro and con for both?

Sorry for bombarding with questions. 😁😅
*
The H8 plus is likely to stay 5.1...updates are usually to fix problems & a bit of optimization...

The Mecool M8S Pro with 7.1 is what I'd consider if I want future proofing...

Another way to future proof is to get popular easily hackable ones like Beelink GT1 that gets 3rd party ROM developments, etc... the H96 Pro+ fall in this category...and I believe it now comes factory fitted with 7.1...

Hello. I need opinion from u guys.
Im currently in process to terminate the lame-pricey Astro.
What is the best tv box I can get to replace it?
This is for my parents. Maybe something that have simple navigation might be good  biggrin.gif
*
Get a reasonable spec box...get iflix...get tonton...help then transition to it...

It's not Astro for sure...but there's quite enough of programs to keep busy...if they cannot get used to it...re-subscribe Astro...

anybody using a windows 10 pc for Kodi/Media purpose? I think it beats any TV box.

I've used it on Windows / Mac / Linux... I don't anymore... No difference to me... It'll burn more power for sure

So what is better in your opinion?

Im just beginning to use my first android box. So far the experience is not pleasant but then mine has a bit of a problem with it. But I feel the video quality on a pc is so much better and also it can skip to any part of the movie in an instant unlike TV boxes. Sound is another problem. If I play a movie with only DD5.1 using TV box, no sound comes out as I need a 5.1 decoder. On a PC, somehow it can play it even though I dont have a receiver plug in, it just plays thru my pc stereo speakers

I like to know what are the disadvantages of using a PC
*
Make sure video resolution matches TV...and start TV first before the box...some boxes auto switch to 720 if started first...and you set to auto

No issue with skipping ahead...need mouse...

You probably need some time to set up audio properly...I assume you have some sound... so it's not hardware problem...

Set default box hdmi audio output to pcm. In Kodi do the same & select 2.0. Enabled downmix, disable pass throughout. You can play with hardware / software decode...see how these goes...

Uninstall and reinstall Kodi if required...

Download "Antutu Video Tester", play it and see/hear if all is OK. This is independent of Kodi. FYI, My box doesn't play AC3 even 2.0 natively (bug)...but plays in Kodi, and in MX Player with custom codec.

I see your other issues in the Beelink thread... well good luck to you... probability best sending it back and try something different...

but is there a "beelink" player in the firmware?
*
My Vensmile's gallery app will play video, there's also a basic video app. It also came pre-installed with MX player & kodi.

I think they all comes with some forms of a basic player...only a few has own branded customized player...

anyone can convince me whats the difference between using pc and android box? I just bought one, but dont feel any different with pc.
*
One is designed for productivity, the other entertainment

For most people, main difference is just user experiences...

A rock and hammer both can whack a nail, some people prefers the raw, organic way... biggrin.gif ...and finds it satisfying...

IMHO the ultimate machine is a higher spec pc to rival Darbee & Dolby Vision, but will cost a bomb. Some good boxes, are not quite there but good enough for demanding users, and are relatively cheap.

Of course some cheap boxes are no good at all...

If you are feeling buyer's remorse, just use Kodi / Exodus etc, happy with the pc work flow, then best to return for a refund.

It is an old PC, core 2 duo loaded with 8400 gs, 4gb ram if I'm not mistaken. anyway, i no longer use this pc, i can format it to android.
do you think this type of pc will have more power than mi box?

from what i see, it is just casting technology useful?
does graphics, sound, power really different between a PC and android box if watching a 1080p video on TV? since my PC can watch 1080p video on windows without problem.
*
All newer android box will do 4K/UHD resolutions, H265/HEVC decoding easy. Your PC as is will not. Just saying...but this is really not a problem anytime soon so don't worry about it.

If you need to upgrade, just replace the graphics card compatible with MadVR and you'll have an awesome HTPC. Video decoding is best done by the graphics card and not CPU. Read up on MadVR before you wipe windows out... I'd consider dual boot if you want to use android...

Like I said earlier... sounds like your PC works for you, and you like it's output better...so I would just use it...

still got any stuff that can do on android box over computer?
i owned mi box, mi phone, xiaoyi, got any special features for these devices?
i found a pretty cool apps that can route the audio to my phone.
anymore?

Easier to hook up Mi controller and play android games on the Mi Box than the PC I would think...

Since you have both, use which ever you fancy... doesn't have to be either or...

I think the repeat of such question was due to the title of this topic. I suggest TS replace the word recommendation with the word discussion and see if the frequency of such question can be reduced.

Thanks for input.

It's really hard to say why people keep posting as such. Do they...

1. Don't trust 1st page
2. Think 1st page is obsolete
3. Didn't read 1st page
4. Want easy answer
5. ...

As TS, I can only keep 1st page updated and relevant...I don't know what they think...I can't control one liner "recommendation please" posts...

I doubt whatever title I use will be any more effective... I thought for weeks what title to use... laugh.gif

If folks choose to respond to these questions...just keep cool... ✌

Is there any tweak or setting for minix to display a true 1080p display?

I already set it up to 1080p 60hz, but I'm not impressed with the display quality on the menu.

And myiptv display for HD not nice either. Compare to my previous satellite dish HD display (skybox), definitely not on par. Maybe my eyes got problem lol.

Speed test on minix is around 40-50mbps.
*
you'll need good quality high bitrate 1080p or 720p source...test again and see how it goes...

most free and paid streaming FHD and HD sources are low quality crap...some are upscaled from 480p... they are not the right sources for testing

you can also use photos... obviously you will need to know what to use and look out for

I suggest you use your phone, shoot FHD outdoors in good daylight, then playback to check...

If you really want to go absolutely technical... download AVS HD709, play the 1/2/3 pixels resolution test...

When you use Exodus, Genesis etc, it will search for the video from a list of suppliers.

Wonder what is their rationale in getting the videos, putting them on a site and freely available to all. All these cost money.

Do they get paid for doing this? How?

Or some do it out of their good hearts?

One idea in my head is, maybe they get under-the-table payments from TV box suppliers. Without their help, no one will be using the TV box.

Appreciate some insights if you know some of the inside stories.

Thanks.
*
Provider sites existed long before Android, long before TV box, long before Kodi...

They are supported by ads, donations, syndicates... they exist to spite the establishment and it's unfair practice, etc...

Addons and apks are mostly developed by enthusiasts leaching from these providers...

Looks interesting. But cannot expect much in free gifts from the govt.

Looked up the web, BR1M budgets for 2016 and 2017 were RM 5.9 and 6.8 billions. An increase of about RM200 per recipient in 2017, that accounts for the higher 6.8 billion for 2017 (4.7 million recipients *RM200).

Now where do they get the TV box money for the RM199 * 4.7 million = RM0.94 billion?!

They will be sending the TV box by Pos Laju. So that will cost easily another 4.7 million * 10= RM47 million!

With internet, I wonder how can Pos Office make money. Now, with a big customer like the govt, a big spender there to support Pos Office!

Sorry for this OT.

Average Streaming Bitrates

Typical Movies & TV shows
4K / UHD file encoding 11.2 to 11.8 mbps; my Unifi Lite not fast enough to stream
FHD file encoding 2.1 to 2.5 mbps; Unifi DL speed ~3 mbps
HD file encoding 1.2 to 1.6 mbps; Unifi DL speed ~2 mbps

Providers' encoding variation for same movie/show varies about 0.1~0.2 mbps

Info gathered during playback using Kodi & MX player

Interestingly most FHD/HD files are 23/24 fps...the two 4K movies checked was 30 fps...

that's about right.

2mbps = 250KBps, can get the heavily ripped HD files.

Time for u to go 50mbps or more!
Theoretically, 50mpbs can stream up to 6.25MBps or a 2 hr 45GB video.
In reality, can get only up to 20GB ones in quasar - provided seeds n peers are good.

Not even FHD!!  shocking.gif ... Gosh.. How do you keep your eyes from bleeding?.. I feel you though, cuz at one time, I also believed YIFY rips were "good enough"...  puke.gif   laugh.gif
*
It depends... when you do the maths and check the streams...most of the time HD has better per pixel quality than FHD...

...so starting with a better quality stream... I upscale to FHD...sends to my Blu-ray player to apply general sharpening, edge sharpening, micro-contrast adjustment, clarity enhancements, etc... only then it is "good enough" for viewing... lol... don't look down at my "HD" stream man... laugh.gif wink.gif thumbup.gif

If the quality is below threshold...I just move on to a better HD or FHD source lor... laugh.gif

PS...it also doesn't help that most TV shows are HD only... sad...

as u know, hd, fhd comes in various shapes and sizes.

it is possible some less ripped 720 can be better than heavily ripped 1080 - the file size gives an indication.

but if streaming w/o that info, can't tell until u see the video.
tv shows... yes, almost all on normal streams are at best 720.

1080, u can get at quasar or some other sources(s).

newer netflix n amazon shows like house of cards, sense8, american gods... there are 2160p ones, each episode about 20GB.
*
...after a while, you know who has better rips, and easy to discern the quality...

Yup...the newer shows can get 1080 n higher...

Heck...even porn comes tongue.gif in 4K/50GB now... laugh.gif
