The US Kodi forum likes to bash all cheap android box except a handful. Their usage a bit different from over here.

The dark screen issue is fixed with new firmware as I understands it. It's only a small issue but affected all S912 boxes...

I'm just calling it as it is... I'm not saying the bashing is unfounded or invalid...

Most of the issues are related to flaky firmware, lack of updates, audio pass-through problems, not complying with standard, etc, no?

And what exactly is superior performance? It can mean different things to different people...it really depends on what is important to the individual and how it is measured...just saying...

Anyway...you and I know what are the better boxes out there ...and I know you want the Shield

update on my Vensmile U1...

Found a silly AC3 bug I think. Aida64 reported available AC3 codec, but no sound when using native player, MX player, VLC, etc. Even when using AC3 Player also no sound. Antutu video tester says OK but that is a wrong result. Only Kodi played with sound. Install custom codec for MX player, now only Kodi & MX plays my files properly. Very strange.

I previously reported some PQ banding...apparently that's an issue only when using browser for lcd calibration. No banding observed with video playback and UI operation.

Gotten used to the UI, really like the status bar & multitasking. Only pet peeve is only one master volume for all sound (media, notification, mouse click)

So far still happy with the box.

Tried HW+, HW and SW...no go... MX player codec didn't work...but Xda's is working... that's why so strange...

Kodi 17... I'm using HW decode & it's working...so it's even stranger... lol... anyway will play with it some more...

Which roku? Did you check Hulu & Roku sites FAQ, & your seller?

AFAIK Hulu comes pre-installed.

YT normal apk needs mouse...want remote friendly use YT for TV...

Kodi 17...go Kodi thread & pls give more info...how you wired up, what 5.1 source, how you configure audio...

Sometimes new boxes best do factory reset...play with it a few more days, if problem persist, reset...

Normally new boxes I install and uninstall kaw kaw test for any issues ... and expect to reset before finally setting up the way I want it...

First make sure you have setup smartproxydns properly... verify using phone or pc by running Hulu, or play some TV shows from fox, cnbc, etc...or run some other usually geoblocked channel

Once confirm running and not geoblocked...then try the Roku channel store again...

Played on my Q16 few weeks back...

Yup...free to air live TV usually all free...

Just saw your post in the Mi Box thread... best let the folks answer you there...

A few folks here went for the H96 Pro+, haven't read much on H96+... if they used the same board just less memory then should be OK... however with contract manufacturing they may have the same "family name" but can be designed / made by different people

Saw a review saying T95Z's wifi is weak...

AFAIK there is no Mi Box 3 pro listed on mi.com now... there's 3c, 3s, 3 enhanced... the Mi Boxes have their own set of issues & problems...

I wonder which has the better picture quality... U9-H/U1 or Q10/Q5 pro?

I know the Himedias have extra picture tweaking ability via imprex settings...have not seen any such settings for the Minix, but this doesn't mean much if its picture is already great.

The only person that I know who has both boxes is JayceOoi...care to comment?

Anyone else seen such shoot-out/comparison?
