Wow I did some digging, there were actually two apps on the machine, one was called "google play store", the other "play store". When I disable  "play store" and i try to launch google play store, it says incompatible version for device, uninstall updates blah blah(cause play store auto updates to latest version.) So I think maybe "play store" stops google play store from updating itself thereby causing the problem I was seeing. Wah is it safe to use this play store ah, luckily i created different account for the box.

Google playstore is for google androidtv, found in nividia shield, mibox intl and google smart tvs.

Playstore is for all generic androids.

Similar but not the same.

Brought my box all the way to India. Two problems now. cry.gif

1) Bad Internet connection, I doubt I can stream any content. doh.gif

2) Plugged in HDMI cable which I brought from Malaysia, I doubt it's spoilt as I was still using it before I put in my luggage. 4 ports on the TV but none detects my box. doh.gif Tried with my laptop, also cannot detect. doh.gif

FML. Gotta talk to hotel fellows tomorrow.

If it's too slow and I cannot load content, I have to accept the fate but if HDMI ports cannot use really I can bangwall.gif here... One month plus here. cry.gif

Is there any chance that HDMI ports can be disabled on a TV?

Buy new HDMI cable and try ?maybe wire broken when pack in luggage?

Or one more possibility is the box faulty ?

I checked out UBOX Gen 3 (Unblock Tech Gen 3). Tried to look for more reviews/comments in this forum but can't seem to find it (also tried the search function).
So if anyone is using the UBOX Gen 3, could you share your comments?
1) how long have you been using it?
2) Will it work averagely well on 10 MB unifi on Wi-Fi?
3) any "surprises" like sudden subscription fee to certain channels, after, let's say, 30 days of use?
4) how much did you pay for it?
5) any other comments would be helpful.

Good tip I did more digging, play store auto updates to the google tv version.

http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/

If you look there, my version is the [8] one. But even though i downloaded the [0] one to manually install after it installs successfully, app info is the [8] version. So I think the software replaces it with factory version(which is [0]) after everytime google play self updates.

afaik, googleplay store will only work on devices with the correct firmware.

generic playstore is meant for all other androids in phones, tablets, boxes, etc that are not googled approved.

u can't switch whenever u like.

but do update if u are able to get both to work with yr box.

Does this means that if I get an Android TV (ex: Sony), I don't have to buy a Kodi box at all? Besides Sony, which brand has Android TV built in?

looking forward Remix IO+. the specs looks great. it is time for a replacement to my old Minix X8-H plus. my X8-H plus ia great it just that it runs on kitkat 4.4, compatibility to the IPTV services is one of the issue other than Kodi v17 support.

for official IPTV support

Astro on the go = few channel support
HypptV = tv1,2,parilmen and Luxe HD only support
Tonton = No problem
Kodi v17= no support
gaming = good at least better than newer Zidoo X6 pro. X6 pro struggling to play Real Racing. X8 gpu much faster than X6 pro

oh ya Remix Mini support all HyppTV channel I tested smile.gif

essentially, yes.

Google has partnered with Sony, Sharp, and Philips (TP Vision) to offer the platform in TVs. Version 2 of Shield Android TV was announced at CES 2017 with Google Assistant in a future update.[5]

but do not confuse android tv with google tv which is older and with limited use on some old smart tv's.

Your device is Android 6 and should be running the regular Google Play Store and not the Play Store meant for Android TV.

Firstly... There's no such thing as a "Kodi Box".. Only boxes where Kodi was pre-installed and possibly pre-configured..

Android TV OS =/= Android OS.. The former is geared towards the bigger screen and the latter towards phones and tablets..but has been adapted for the big screen too. Buying an Android TV OS powered TV, if sufficient... Then no need for an additional media box, else.. Up to you to get one.

this is where it can get confusing...

regular android uses PLAY STORE.

android tv uses GOOGLE PLAY STORE.
