I guess in the past some rooted box works...so it wasn't checking for root or its root checking is not sophisticated...Himedias are not rooted yet won't work... now dunno what it is checking...

I saw someone selling services to mod rooted tv boxes to allow aotg to work...he's selling a few boxes too at RM 100 mark up...that's why I was thinking maybe it's a spoofing we can all diy...

I wonder if aotg works with smart tv and rooted phone...

this aotg is certainly a "mystery".

i hv also been reading and checking what makes it work and not work.

so far...

.. minix - u1 and x8h said to work.
.. hypptv - some say work, some say dun work.
.. mibox int'l - some say work, some say dun; some suspect due to leanback keyboard, some say that doesn't help.
.. himedia older boxes - unrooted box still give "yr box is rooted"; q10pro can install app, but the video will simply not load.
.. my tv's androidtv - it works; have not read anything if other androidtv or smart tv works.

can't deduce much from above...

IMO... With AOTG, while how the app checks for root/compatibility counts, it's mainly about the firmware. The Minix devs actively work on their firmware to make it compatible to as many apps out there as possible. On the official forum, there's a dedicated thread where owners can make requests and provide login details (privately of course). If enough people request a particular app and or it can be made compatible, they do so and push it out in the next update..

Its supposed to work on phones & tablets...dunno if a rooted phone/tablet works, if it does then it's not checking for root...and because not all tablets have cellular, it's not checking cellular stuff for sure...

I was thinking "hey get a cheap phone and turn it into a media box"...easiest is via mhl but they don't include them anymore... hardware mod is possible but more trouble than it is worth...it will be a proof of concept device! Lol...

One of the reasons we recommend premium boxes to new folks...the Minix in particular which is designed for international markets...

no, i didn't bought any because i don't need and i am not scalper either.

i gave the opportunity to those new to android tv box.

you can't buy a truck load for mispricing stuff because they won't honour it. but different story if you just order 1pcs so the chance to fulfill the order is higher.
