Where r you from?
What breed are you looking for?
There is a breeder that is very good. All types of hamster available, but she delivers in Rawang, Selayang to Kepong Area.
Search facebook for Avyhamster, right now, she has Syrian n Campbell up for adoption(for sale).Or check mudah.my for ppl giving up for adoption with fees.

Currently, I only have 11 baby agouti roborovskis which will be up for adoption at the end of May.

Normally, I buy all my hamster wheel from manjapet (Facebook) ezbuy.my, shopee.com.my, mudah.my, n petlovers n daiso. Depending on breeds n my urgency of need.

I'm from Bukit Jalil, looking for winter white. Although campbell is also a possibility too. Wanted a Campbell many many years ago but most shops didn't have them so ended up with getting a pair of robo instead.
(Also, just used the search button for myself on the forum. My last hamsters were in 2010!! ) rclxub.gif

Any plans for winter whites? tongue.gif

I only intended to breed my Dwarf Hamsters, not Syrian Hamters @.@

I need some help here. One of my female dwarf hamsters just gave birth but she doesn't seem to be taking care of her pups.

What should I do?

It is rare that hamsters (all breeds) dont care for her pups, this may due to stress.
Few things to check.

Do you constantly disturb her nest to check on the babies?
Yes, try to reduce the number of disturbance to a minimal.
If need so, remove the mother first, check and put her back with treats. Mealworms and sunflower seeds

Have you supply her enough protein diet daily?
Mealworms, sunflower seeds, boiled scrambled eggs are good option

is her cage located in a quiet place?
No, place in quiet area.

is the male still with her?
No, move the male. Sometimes the male is creating stress rather than being helpful.

is she a new mother?
Yes, then you can only hope the this litter will survive.
No, means she is stress.

Handfeed them is very difficult, therefore seldom people take the chance.

She has been solitary since we noticed her pregnancy. She wasn't showing any signs of stress during her pregnancy. No biting, no nesting, not drinking much water than usual, full of energy, normal appetite... No signs of stress at all. She was just getting plump and her nipples are obvious and that's how we know she was pregnant. Also, she has been very "welcoming". Every time we reach our hand to her she would climb onto our palm without biting us. We feel that she is just naive and tamed since the day we got her back from the pet store. It's been almost 3 months now and she is 4-5 months old.

From what you explained, the only description that fits is that she is a new mother. Other than that, she just seems fine. No panicking, no extra awareness, no lack of energy... Just normal.

We lost 2 of the babies T-T Found them dead this morning T-T

At first we thought of giving the mother private space so we did not bother her yesterday since she gave birth around 12pm. We've been watching her through CCTV and she's been sleeping around and her babies were scattered until around 8pm. We tried to use a spoon to move the babies near her so that they got fed. But after a while the mother went away from them again.

This morning we saw 2 dead babies. Prolly of cold and hunger T-T

We are trying our best to help them now. Though we are not supposed to disturb them but if we don't help them, there will be likely no chance of survival for the babies.

Now we prepared a small container and we put the babies and the mother in so that they cannot get out. Sort of forcing her to feed her babies since she cannot get out from there and go anywhere else. But we take the mother out sometimes for her to have some time of her own.

I feel sorry for her but I have to do this.

just saying, the mum might instead feel stress instead because of restricted movement.

might result in mum eating the babies too

but thats just my 2 cents

Don't think she is stressed. She's been eating, drinking, living like normal. And no, she is not eating them. Feeding is going on now. What an experience for me! =.=

No no no, don't put them into a new environment with limited space. It will stress out the mother hence it will become worse. Pregnancy mother will need more nutrition and vitamin, try to feed her mealworm and sunflower seeds and some vitamin tablet (for hamster) if possible. She need more nutrition in order to feed her babies.

I understand the frustration. But this is normal. The more u handle the babies with spoon or any method, the more the mother will reject. What you can do is unlimited food protein diet. Then hope for the best.

If you move them now, the litter will mostly likely died within 1-2 days, but it also may be successful.

If this litter failed, u can reintroduced the male again. Record n time, normally the 2nd litter will be better n easier. I only removed the male if the female attacks or she birth the first baby. My reason is the male always ease the stress of the pregnancy period by helping food gathering, nesting.

What is the original cage setup, I always encourage ppl I came across to use storage bin, tanks as their cage; bar cages n habitrall are always discourage. Some ppl might have success but most will failed in breeding them in that environment.

Petsmore is the worst n expensive pet shop in Malaysia that I know of. They treat small pet animals like rubbish. Cats n dogs sometimes good depending on breed. That's why I never buy there.

Great, Avyhamster is a great breeder. She also sells food n accessories. She didn't offer to you?

Thank you very much for the helpful tips! =D

The mother and her 2 pups are still in the container now. The pups get to feed well when the mother is sleeping. Now the mother is awake and she keeps "sweeping" the bedding and food that we place in there for her. YES, SHE IS "SWEEPING" HER BABIES AWAY, TOO! >.< It's like she doesn't even know those are her babies! So, we just gave her a piece of fruit treat to settle her down and the 2 pups get to feed again =) Hopefully these 2 can survive. We hope for the best, prepare for the worst =(

They have been living in Detolf Cage (from IKEA). For nursery, we put divider in the Detolf and leave them only one compartment to limit the space so that the pups won't be too scattered around @.@ Will definitely try your advice for the next breeding - leaving the male with the female and see how it goes. Yes, we noticed, before separating the male, he is the one who was doing the nesting =D The reason we separated him was because he was sick =(

Just sharing on how we actually cured our hamster =D Our male dwarf hamster was down with respiratory infection 2 weeks ago. One day we noticed that he was lying around, got weak limps, with very fast heartbeats and not eating nor drinking. We immediately separated him and placed him alone in a bin. We boiled fresh thyme water everyday (FRESH, EVERYDAY!) and fed him with a syringe. We also placed a humidifier near his bin (to minimize dusts in the air) and had Vicks mixed with water burning in one of those essential oil stands.

At first we were super sad thinking that we would lose him. But after 2-3 weeks of efforts and care, he has recovered and is now back to normal. Thank God!!
