QUOTE(meiteoh @ Feb 23 2017, 03:00 PM) Eh, anyone got tips for getting rid of ants? I heard baby powder is good. You need to find the root where did the ants come from, otherwise they will keep on coming and coming like nv ending. My house is notorious for ants and they come calling within 1 day. Would vaseline or double sided tape work? Other than to prevent them from coming to your house if they're from outside, you need to clean the trail as well. I don't think double sided tape will work, vaseline can try |

I recommended you to go for pet lover centre or pet wonderland. at least their staff very knowledgeable and able to advise us how to care for our pet.
As for equipment, sometime I found pet wonderland cheaper if compare with other. Even the 1U's Petsmore is the same situation as you describe, sometime feel sorry for those little.. Btw, Tesco Ampang are having 80L Bin for RM49.90. For those who plan for a bigger Bin Cage for your hamster This post has been edited by jfarm86: Feb 27 2017, 08:21 PM |

QUOTE(cberry @ Feb 28 2017, 09:56 PM) What is 80L Bin? We are using Detolf from IKEA ^.^ Sadly I don't have space for 160cm wide Anyone can recommend some good hamster mix here? Been looking for the best food for my Dwarves and Syrians. Also, anyone know where to get cheaper wheel for Syrian Hamsters? I saw one in Pet Lovers Centre which is RM70++. @_@ Most if wanted to, I'll use 2 Billy extension and make a double decker for them (wide around 80cm+). Price roughly the higher then Detolf glass shelve (rm179) if I remember correctly, Billy extension rm70 (white) + glass (rm30) * 2 = rm200. The one you looking at is it wodent wheel? They should have cheaper one which is comfort wheel price around 40-50 for syrian if I rmb correctly, try ask their staff instead. |

QUOTE(cberry @ Mar 6 2017, 02:02 PM) Thank you for your guide on the hamster food and wheel, appreciate that ^.^ Yeah, be very careful if you're planning to get hamsters from pet shops. I am having a hard time taming the two adult Syrians that I got from Petsmore >.< But I got another Dwarf from Pet Lovers Centre the other day. I held it in my hand in the pet shop and it stayed steadily on my palm. So I bought it ^.^ Maybe you can try doing the same. Just sharing, here are some pictures of my Hamily =D https://www.instagram.com/hammyquarters/ |

Did anyone encounter that your hamster put bedding into sand bath place? I'm not sure why but early this morning found out he put the bedding into sand bath there. He got a hideout and a 'home' , just curious whether he will sleep in there as there is the place where he pee and poo most of the time

Normally if you went to the pet shop, don't buy their house brand will do. Those are the products that their staff will normally recommend you, which you can do your research first b4 buy any food for your hammie |

QUOTE(ntw @ May 11 2017, 08:10 PM) now both my hamsters are dead.. I noticed a few days before they're dead, they are running around restlessly in their cage. Is this normal? how old is your hamster? running around restlessly sometime might due to stress from the environment or another hamster went into their territory. Did their tail get wet all the time recently? If is, it is a sign of sickness.check this guide out http://hamsterhideout.com/forum/topic/1060...-and-illnesses/ This post has been edited by jfarm86: May 12 2017, 09:05 AM |

QUOTE(ntw @ May 12 2017, 01:24 PM) close to 2 years plus, close to 3 years of age. i didn't make any recent changes to their habitat. and after the first one died, i inspected his body and didn't find signs of wetness. they seem to be eating healthily when i feed them grains and raisins, but out of a sudden they became restless and then passed away a day or two later. RIP, near their lifespan for an average hamster. Maybe it is their habitat I guess since didn't have any sign of sickness. |

QUOTE(cberry @ May 18 2017, 01:02 PM) We are trying our best to help them now. Though we are not supposed to disturb them but if we don't help them, there will be likely no chance of survival for the babies. No no no, don't put them into a new environment with limited space. It will stress out the mother hence it will become worse. Pregnancy mother will need more nutrition and vitamin, try to feed her mealworm and sunflower seeds and some vitamin tablet (for hamster) if possible. She need more nutrition in order to feed her babies. Now we prepared a small container and we put the babies and the mother in so that they cannot get out. Sort of forcing her to feed her babies since she cannot get out from there and go anywhere else. But we take the mother out sometimes for her to have some time of her own. I feel sorry for her but I have to do this. |

QUOTE(nivlanauk @ May 19 2017, 01:07 AM) i have a question, check it out where they pee mostly, if it is at the sand there 2-4 weeks should be okay which depends on you, if you can't stand the smell then you'll need to change it right?how often do they change the bedding like that? because if 1 were to change it every week, that is a lot of bedding!! the digging bedding there can last longer, i'm same like urs as well but it is smaller abit. they seldom poo in there, most of their poo are on the surface or corner or near their sleeping places. Check their behavior and where they pee and poo mostly and change the environment to suit yourself where you maybe can clean it easily on daily/weekly basis. Definitely wet tail, bring it to Vet ASAP. It might be minor while some serious case might cause death within a week.

QUOTE(jess7 @ Nov 20 2017, 08:31 AM) currently residing in sitiawan, perak dwarf? syrian? robo?we do have pet shops but they have really limited range for small pets, mostly for cats and dogs. yea, bedding wise i'll have to buy bulk once future hamham gets settled. what do u hammie owners like to use, ie brand, type of substrate? im currently eyeing crittercare! p/s: i subscribed to hamster youtuber vanillahamham, so naise diy house out of popsicle sticks! if you're looking for crittercare bedding, PetLovers is offering cheaper when you buy 3 10L packaging @ their store. For wood bedding, better look for Aspen. Try to avoid Cedar or Pine wood For paper bedding, try to look for natural without any coloring process. Or you can use tissue as bedding if you don't mind. DIY popsicle sticks is nice, but bear in mind that hamster somehow will chew it. And they even will pee/poo inside if you DIY a house for them, so you need to monitor and clear the poo to a corner and hope that it can be potty train. Syrian easier to train so far, other will just like to poo everywhere. Pee can be trained as they tend to pee at one corner only. |

QUOTE(jess7 @ Nov 21 2017, 10:00 AM) why is your syrian even on your head in the first place you can report to their HQ I think. As so far the lps that I went, they provide enough bedding (crittercare) and a wheel.died laughing anyways, has anyone here tried homemade hamster bedding. steps include immersing toilet paper in hot water, mushing, balling and drying them. with our superrrrr hot weather, im sure it'll dry relatively fast. i read that odour control could be a problem with this homemade ones but if i can save money in the long run, why not may mix 50:50 ratio with commercial paper bedding... as for bathing sand, does anyone actually leaves the bathing sand in a small container in their hamham home? downside is the hamham might use it as a bathroom if not potty trained eh? as for my hamster, can anyone recommend a good pet shop to go to in kl/selangor area? i went to my lps yesterday... all their hamsters were badly housed, not enough bedding, WORSE: NO WHEELS... kinda pity them bathing sand normally I only provide to them when I clean their cage once a week, some said it is not good to leave it in the cage for long term. But I guess it depends really, so suits urself which u prefer. As for their bathroom, i use a Tupperware with cat sand and clean it on daily basis. Mine is a Syrian so easier for him to get in and out. Nv try homemade bedding, but u can try and see the outcome. |
