QUOTE(cberry @ Feb 27 2017, 11:47 AM) We went to 2 Petsmore branches looking to purchase Syrian hamsters. One in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, another one in Taman Connaught. Eventually, we blacklisted Petsmore. wow hamster commit suicideWe went to the one in Bandar Mahkota Cheras first. Asked their staff how old their Syrian Hamsters were, also other hamster product related questions, they simply answered us "DON'T KNOW!". Just lack of knowledge and not professional. We bought our Syrian Hamsters from the branch in Taman Connaught. When we were there, we saw two Sapphire Dwarves fighting and one of them was bleeding badly ON THE HEAD. Yes, a BLOODY HEAD. And then we saw a Robo drowned in their water container. They just left them there. When the staff approached us, I told them what I saw and he said: "Yeah, they fight for food, sometimes." Apparently, Petsmore only keeps their pets for the sake of selling. They don't take good care and manage their pets. Their hamsters were not given proper equipment such as a house, wheel etc... The Syrian Hamsters that we bought are too old to be trained for anything. When we brought them home, we gave them a house, wheel, bath sand etc... But they don't use any of them. So, I will not ever recommend anyone going to Petsmore! terrible tips: buy younger hamster |

QUOTE(meiteoh @ Mar 2 2017, 09:02 AM) Re hamster mix, both dwarves and Syrians have different requirements so you cannot use one mix for all, IMHO. Dwarves are more prone to diabetes so any mix with fruit or that is heavy in sugar is a big no-no while Syrians are pretty much okay with the regular stuff. I use Versele Laga Hamster Complete Nature (mix) and add Versele Laga Hamster Complete (pellets) for Jasper (he's a Syrian). You can refer to this list of good and bad options. When in doubt, please refer to nutrition listing & percentage: wahhh pro sudah - Protein 17-19% unless you have growing pups or pregnant hammies - Fat 4-7% (not a problem as most mixes OD on this) - Fibre 6-15% (you can top up with fresh veg) Hamsters also need raw food, eg veg, fruit, meat (cooked pls) every 1-2 days. I feed Jasper fresh carrots, bok choy, apples, capsicum, pea sprouts, cucumber, zucchini and boiled chicken (those cat food packs/cans are good too)/cheese every alternate day depending on what's in the fridge. This list tells you what fresh foods are safe for both dwarves and Syrians. (Yes, I did my research.) Re wheel, you need a minimum of 8" or 21cm for the wheel. You can get those wooden ones for RM60 (mine is RM59 plus and is 23cm). Try looking online - some sellers sell 21cm wheels for RM30. |

QUOTE(cberry @ Mar 16 2017, 12:53 PM) I need some help here. If anybody knows anyone who is looking for Syrian Hamsters, please contact me. just saying, if you wanna let go because you do not want them, better you give a super low price or just FOC. When we got Beauty (our female Syrian Hamster), we did not realize she was pregnant at that time. Few weeks later, she gave birth to 5 babies. We cannot keep all because we do not have enough cages to house them all Here are the details of the babies: Gender : Male / Female Age : 3 weeks Fur Color : Cinnamon Banded / Dove Banded Eye Color : Ruby Red Type : Short-haired Condition : Happy & Healthy Price : RM20 each Note : Since hamsters are solitary, we will limit ONE hamster to ONE buyer. We are looking for serious pet lover only. Our hamsters have been well taken care of and are happy and healthy. Please contact me only if you are ready to commit and take good care of them. You can WhatsApp me at 0182631162 or 0182855986. |

QUOTE(ntw @ May 12 2017, 01:24 PM) close to 2 years plus, close to 3 years of age. i didn't make any recent changes to their habitat. and after the first one died, i inspected his body and didn't find signs of wetness. they seem to be eating healthily when i feed them grains and raisins, but out of a sudden they became restless and then passed away a day or two later. RIP |

QUOTE(cberry @ May 18 2017, 09:55 AM) We lost 2 of the babies T-T Found them dead this morning T-T condolences on the baby At first we thought of giving the mother private space so we did not bother her yesterday since she gave birth around 12pm. We've been watching her through CCTV and she's been sleeping around and her babies were scattered until around 8pm. We tried to use a spoon to move the babies near her so that they got fed. But after a while the mother went away from them again. This morning we saw 2 dead babies. Prolly of cold and hunger T-T but i did hear about first time mummy hamster being negligence. so i think its quite the norm, though sad. cheer up. hamster mates like nobody's business. |

just saying, the mum might instead feel stress instead because of restricted movement.
might result in mum eating the babies too but thats just my 2 cents |
