Hey guys, I graduated a year and has been working since. Saved up a bit and planning to earn some side income. I'm new to all these investment, fund stuff and have no idea where to start. I'm willing to learn and take risk.

Any advice from the all the sifus? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

General risks of investing,...

even if you can do achieve that,..i am not sure if that side income earned is the desired amount to you.

Yup I do understand there's gonna be risk no matter what.
I've heard from my friend to start with something low risk like bonds. Is it advisable to do so?

Ok I'll study more on that. Thanks for the tips!
*
just a note:
some bond funds have returns that is on par with FD and without the FD guaranteed returns and PIDM protection too.
some bond funds have price movement that is more volatile than some equities funds.

unknown to alot of factors about you, your financial situation, how much you wanted to invest in relation to your net worth, etc, etc.....
may i suggest you read the article given to you first, then consult the FSM CIS.....
they will be much obligated and help you out.....

Haha I have been on their "waiting list" for some time now but still no news. Anyway the tech stack behind their web platform doesn't really project confidence to me though, although they might have super-genius-fund-manager~

hmm.gif what do you refer that to? do you mean FSM SG has fund manager?

Guys so i have one question to ask,

Let's say if I suddenly happen to make a lump sum investment into FSM (a 5 or 6 figure number brows.gif ), would FSM/BNM require me to declare my source of funds for my investments ?

Call up fsm cs to ask then tell us?

Hi all, I'm newbie here, currently looking into recommended portfolios.

I noticed all recommended portfolios, aggressive to conservative, islamic or non islamic, there are no Balance or Money Market funds featured in any of the portfolios.

Why is that? Are they no good?

I'm asking because I was looking at RHB Smart Balanced Fund, seems good to me.
*
the recommended portfolio are "recommended" portfolio.
There is no hard and fast rule on how a portfolio is to be constructed.
Fund Selection Considerations
The funds featured in the portfolios are mainly taken from our FSM Recommended Funds. Features of funds that differ from the Recommended Funds may have lower initial and subsequent investment amount as well as a different style which may be more beneficial for investors in current market conditions.
The portfolios are reviewed on a monthly basis for performance tracking and rebalanced on a quarterly basis or as and when there is material deviation. The periodic rebalancing is a guideline which investors can again moderate to their preference. In previous magazine, we have busted the myth that frequent rebalancing is good for investors.

Anyone knows What happened to Selina actually?
*
what happened to Selina?
do you mean the fund's performance in terms of ROI or volatility?
do you mean this few months the fund performance is not good?

if you look at the at both Am and Manu in historically perspective.....
Am is about 2% lesser than Manu in annualised returns.....which means 2 % less yearly...
but Am has 15% less volatility % than Manu.....

what happened to Selina?
to me...nothing......she is just as per normal.....ROI & Volatility % are constantly less than Manu.

what happened to Selina?
what has she not done beyond the normal?

It's not normal when manulife is not dropping while selina drop ~1%
*
manu could be luckier...that is why the annualised returns are 2% higher....
by looking at annualised returns...then it looks normal.....
if Am is higher than Manu...then it is not normal for Manu....

look at annualised for longer term judgement, not monthly Navs movement.....
AM could have changed stock holdings, maybe disposed of high valued stocks and bought lower valued stocks and are waiting the lower valued stocks to performed, while Manu could still be holding the currently hot good horses which could be over valued currently.

also maybe Am held to much hedge on currency than Manu.....which was affected by the recent strengthening of MYR.....

look at annualised return and volatility ratio between the two......the results are constantly within my expectation.....

Are Asian REITs still attractive?

Last year, Asian REITs ended the year on a joyful note as investors around the globe were on the hunt for yields under a low interest rate environment. Moving into 2017, however, concerns are pouring in for REITs investors as the US economy continues to deliver positive data that are fueling the possibilities of a faster than expected rate hike. In this Idea of the Week, we will look into two areas investors should look out for when investing in Asian REITs.

https://www.fundsupermart.com.my/main/resea...uary-2017--7959

So, where to look at?
With the above-mentioned downside risks to the Asian REITs market, we suggest investors to opt for shorter duration bond funds which are far less interest rate sensitive, if portfolio stabilizer is what they seek. Local short duration bonds, such as the AmIncome Plus, are also a better alternative for investors who are seeking shelter from the volatility and uncertainty seen in financial markets in recent times, with yields that are relatively higher than that offered by developed sovereign bonds, providing an anchor of stability to a portfolio.

if you are expecting reits to perform this year like yesteryears, FSM already told you so, told you so...in February.....

Is it a great idea to pump in money in Global Titan since the recent distribution lowers down its NAV?
*
NO, no a good idea to invest based on that....that is wrong concept.
Lower NAVs based on after dividend payout is NOT the SAME as Lower NAV based on after market corrections...
& it should invest based on how much you planned to allocate into that area and what are you current allocation.....

........... Well the reason I avoid Malaysia is that I already have EPF and ASX funds. I guess once I invest more into India and Indon their allocation will reduce by itself.
Well is it too greedy if I want to look for both?  tongue.gif
............

hmm.gif for me, I would consider my EPF and ASX as bond funds that gives about 6% p.a.
I would have KGF and some EISC in my portfolio....

well, that is me.... icon_rolleyes.gif

hmm.gif on this -eh... "Well is it too greedy if I want to look for both?" tongue.gif

Just look into EISC, seems it is quite an aggresive fund but I like the return so far. Just afraid that is it ok to be so heavily invested in Malaysia? Truthfully speaking I don't have much faith in Malaysia market hmm.gif

I invested in Greater China early last year too, I think it was red for quite some time but it is green now so I guess it doesn't matter anymore? I guess if we look at longer horizon we won't be so easily panic  tongue.gif
*
you talked about need to diversify in earlier post, then don't have faith in Malaysia, then if we look at longer horizon we won't be so easily panic....... confused.gif rclxub.gif doh.gif

anyway, each to his own preference and likings....Happy investing

so yo want to invest 1 time USD 250 or continuously every month USD 250?
age has no barrier to some people.....
differ investment amount, monitoring style and investment style has different strategy.

BUT, to suggest something for you to "test see which investment instruments fits you"......

sorry I cannot do that because my exposure to all of them is limited.....hope that others can suggest something for you to test......

while waiting, try read this to see what is commonly available investment instrument in the markets.

Types of Investments
there is a wide range of products for consumers to choose from. It is important that you take time to choose something that is suitable for you. Take a look at your goals and investment objective, what investments you already have, what you can afford, and your risk profile.

Buy only what you fully understand – be familiar with the product’s benefits, risks, limitations and costs. Know how much you can lose in the worst case and how this may happen.Think about diversification - will the product complement, supplement or replace what you have? Or will you end up being over-exposed to a particular risk?
