he claims hdd prices not really. For desktop hard drives rated for 8 hours a day, i can see that.

But i don't think thats the case for 24/7 NAS or server hard drives. prices at least in malaysia seem to be quite high  hmm.gif
For amd cpu shopee prices as of this month roughly

amd 9800x3d for RM2,095.50

*this is boxed. the tray might sell for cheaper. fyi box has better warranty than a tray version.
pcpartpicker historical pricing on amazon

about RM2k

That utuber is based Florida USA, so cant compare spot prices between 2 continent nations like that as USA hardware is generally much cheaper than Msia (as you have found out).

But in general if theres an industrial wide price hike in USA/global you can expect similar rises here too.

HDD is old tech so lesser demand from advance countries like USA where high capacity SSD are very affordable for them. In Msia price of SSD is double that for same capacity HDD and roughly double with a doubling of size going up, so HDD demand here will be higher for budget builds.

The just got that Hydro PTM 1200W, which is now ATX3.1. Although seller advertise it as ATX3.0, it came as 3.1.
Fitted everything into a Lian Li A3 mATX case, tight fit.😂

FSP website calls it ATX3.0 tho. Not really much difference, just the Nvidia socket end is newer 12V 2X6 H++ type. No change needed from PSU side.

Got myself Ryzen 7 8700F, Colorful B850i, Klevv Urbane 48GB DDR5 6000 CL30. Not going for 9800X3D because it is extremely overpriced. And I already got very powerful CPU for work.

Will update if it is value for money or not.

This is the first comment from Reddit
"8700F is a (naming) scam. It is a 8700G without the integrated graphics, so it's slower than the 7500F, due to the lower L3 cache (at least in gaming)."

And this is the 2nd comment
"8700F is a defective laptop CPU resold for desktop use. It lacks features like PCIe 5.0 and performs worse as a result."

8000 series main USP is the very gaming capable APU so without that I wonder whats its purpose because it sounds like it isnt much cheaper than 7000 series.

I don't blindly buy stuff.

Low power pc, 8700F with price comparable with i5-14400. Full blast is not the target performance. 8 p-cores with mono die is the main strength. I'll just jump into 9800X3D if I want pcie 5.0. Not like pcie 5.0 SSD is affordable anyway.
*
Hmm, personally if i wanted low power usage i would gone with 8700G since i then can leverage its APU even for simple things like display output. Which is why I question the existence of 'F sku' CPU that has none of the APU advantages.

Finally put everything together. Got the parts over the last 3-4 weeks from Shopee. Took time bcos only buy with vouchers. Looking good so far. Still using the supplied Wraith Stealth.

Ryzen 5 7500F MPK c/w Wraith Stealth [RM511.84]
MSI B650M Gaming Plus Wifi [RM529.60]
Klevv Cras V 32GB Kit CL28 [RM489]
Super Flower Leadex III 850W [RM334]
WD SN850X 2TB (bought April last year) [RM480.37]

Use back:
Tecware Quad case
RX 6600 XT
KC3000 1TB

Incoming:
Gigabyte RX 9060 XT Gaming OC 16GB [RM]
Thermalright BA120 [RM]

My last AMD processor was Athlon64. Such a long time ago. Anyway this replaces the 12400F which replaces the 10400F which was sold off.

Documenting temps now before putting in a better cooler. Also power consumption. My TNB bill really gg for this month.

Not sure why your power use GG coz 7500F is same TDP as your old 12400F.

Sorry for not being clear. My main is Macmini M1 and the last few days, I've been using the 7500F a lot and running Cinebench. So using quite a fair bit of power. sweat.gif

For normal stuff like browsing and YT in Chrome/Safari, Excel & file management. The 7500F uses 94Wh and the Mac 12Wh. The 12400F iirc was about the same, maybe 5-10Wh less than the 7500F.

I see. Macmini is use laptop hardware so cant compare efficiency with desktop PC however our energy cost is dirt cheap and subsidised up to a certain level so unless your using 14900K + 5090 running benches all day everyday, I dont think TNB will significantly more expensive. Then again maybe your case extra RM10 is a lot so yeah YMMV..

Your RAM price is very cheap compared todays pricing in market.

i gambled on those hdd, and none of them were good.

just cause u see smart is showing everything is new, doesnt mean it is.

example, mine showed in farm stats, 4 years power on cycle. and the all the smarts got reset back to 0. so u cant even tell the condition simply because smart says its ok, when in fact it may be on the cusp of dying. a few died so... u arent getting a good deal. trust me i know cause i actually tried it and lost  sweat.gif

Not to say its a scam but realistically these enterprise/server HDDs had hard life running 24/7 in I guess hot stuffy racks. Their retired for a reason, obviously when close to its MTBF or else had started showing failure signs. However while being operational these are still suited for cold data storage, archiving, or home use where data transference not as intense as being in another server or NAS.

I do agree with you that SMART in that case shouldnt be tampered rather buyers should be aware what their getting & risk involved.

Great point there. But getting a 16TB with warranty is extremely expensive. Easily more than RM2K and above. Any recommendation where to get them at a reasonable price?

Cheap = not good
Good things = not cheap

Yes its very real for PC hardware, esp when comes to warranty.

i need to buy 12tb. so choice is seagate ironwolf non pro or western digital plus.

cheapest i saw was a western digital plus 12tb at computer zone lowyat. not on shopee, u have to get in person from lowyat.

prices on shopee is all like 1.7k -1.8k

But if u go to the official distributor, i was told the price for seagate ironwolf, can get slightly under rm 1.6k

For western digital plus is 1.5k
thats the cheapest official.... as in the distributors/resellers officially.
some sellers on shopee they claim they source from the official distributors. whether that is true no idea. but the thing is, if they lied and later in few years u got to claim warranty then u find out u got scam, think shopee will save you? they wont. so why take any chances unless u know for 100%  sweat.gif

You cant get below distro prices. If you think its expensive at least you know why.
