Here you can see for gaming, intel's power consumption and heat isnt as high as assumed (infact most reviews never show gaming temps and powerdraw). But cant say the same for rendering. So in the end If you going to do alot of CPU heavy tasks that will load it to max for long periods of time, then no doubt AMD. But if casual gaming/browsing or even ironically as a low power HTPC, intel is still a pretty solid choice.

My electric bill was pretty high with Ryzen because of the foobar2K music player caused it to go 4.0ghz max load which went unnoticed for a while which i tend to play music at the background as I work... imagine for 7+ hours a day for 4 months, the pc was drawing 100W+ from the wall constantly running 80C. Only started to notice when I upgraded to gtx1070 ITX and my 400w flex PSU started to scream which got me to monitor the powerdraw and finally noticed it.
*
Rendering will make full use of the CPU, 100% utilization, the comparison will be bad for Intel cpu.
the video you posted show most games don't really make use of all cpu as GPU does all the heavy lifting.

As for FLAC, flac is generally slower and more suitable for file archiving (like Zip/Rar ect) and the decoding performance depends on what encoding option used, higher compression ratio is always resulted in slower decoding performance.
Flac is not really fast/optimized as other lossless codec such as ALAC, Wavpack and WMA Lossless.

Here's mine, playing FLAC using Foobar2000 with WASAPI, Chrome with >50 tabs, few programs open but idling.
FLAC is not CPU intensive even for my more than 2 years old CPU.

it depends of the options used during encoding, normal fast compression does not use much cpu power https://brianli.com/flac-compression-level-...%20click%20here.
Flac have CUDA support for encoding, but playback is still on CPU only.

nicely sipping 8~w with 10+ tabs on chrome and gskill software, steam, epic launcher, afterburner running. ram at 4266mhz drool.gif a ram kit that cost almost double the price I paid for my 10600K laugh.gif ambient is 30C-31C. Inside an ITX case with only a 120mm aio.

foobar forever haha, been using it since early 2000s with the same theme and setup  sweat.gif not gonna change as I have added a bunch of my self developed plugins in it as well. mostly to reduce "placebo" latencies such as my volume slider is locked to windows mixer volume. only AMD had forced me to use the disgusting itunes.

I was more hardcore back then. with desktop DAC and tube Amps etc. Now im happy with just a SMSL M3 mini USB DAC. audio tech has came a long way and can get good sound with very little money. I actually spend most of my money buying CDs. Especially whenever I go to japan's tower records hahaha sure whack a bunch back of japanese pressed CDs.
*
ALAC has been reverse engineeried long time ago, you don't even need iTunes to play it.
ITunes is more clunky than most of the players, it's unbearably slow in vm.

nope…not placebo…really can spot the difference between the players even with WASAPI output.

musicbee definitely my top recommendation if lazy do configuration like foobar2k.

myself prefer Sony Music Center for PC due to its simple GUI (just for music playback no lyric ntg else) and sound quality.
*
if you can hear the difference between different players using the same output and audio but without dsp, it's definitely placebo or there is something wrong with the audio player itself

Yeah, the 5700G is a little strange. pcie 3.0 and 16MB L3 cache...

I was a little hesitate to order HP Omen 25L as Alienware seems to have better deal however, looking at Alienware situation... I decided grab the HP from Shopee. At least it's ready stock!

The pricing is fine compare to Alienware and there's ...
- no onboard HDMI/DP so that 'G' is totally useless
- Normal PSU - CM 500w 80 Bronze
- Intel bracket Aluminum CPU cooler... will need to change to another Intel Cooler...

Will get more detail when I get hands on the unit by next week.

They did it to reduce cost, but all of the AMD mobo have display out, aaaand? what we have are some low end APU, 4000 APU is oem only, those made the final decision on AMD mobo must had some serious head damage. lol

Is Foobar hard to use than other program? I been using for many years so maybe used to it's settings, etc. But I see if just to create playlist and add music it's very straight forward.
Default interface design is not the most good looking though.
*
Different people have different tastes, I had one point using just MPlayer with batch file as front-end to play my music.
MPlayer doesn't have graphical interface and I prefer to compile the program myself 🤔😹

Can't remember last time if I tried it. I searched some of it's interface photos, looks very fancy with many functions such as auto cover retrieval, lyric, last.fm, wikipedia, youtube.
Then you do own GUI?
*
they have third party gui and their own, but using both gui feels pretty crippled or limited in function,
back then had to use it to play h264 video on slow pc, before h264 was available on dxva

When you guys are talking about temps, which monitor are you looking at?
There's a big discrepancy between Ryzen Master and HWinfo, at least 6-7C, and I'm not sure which is more accurate.

Gaming temps at 85C (HWinfo reading) on my 5900X are kinda worrying me, not sure if I need a better cooler.
*
if your cpu load is not 100% while gaming then you need a better cooler, a stress test benchmark will send your cpu to thermal throttle mode.

Hello, I need some advice regarding to the CPU cooler.

CPU - HP Omen 25L
Processor - 5700G

I have recently upgraded the processor cooler to NH-U9S after watching video it provides better cooling.

So with NH-U9S (single fan) installed, the idle temperature is 50-51c which is great as compared to the stock cooler.

I noticed the idle temperature increased by 10c (to 60-61c) when I install additional fan to make it push/pull setup.

Question: By using splitter, does it mean the fans are going to spin slower?

I can't seems to find any settings with Omen to increase the fan speed. Looks like the additional fan is going to be wasted...
*
typical fan header provide 1 Ampere, if both of your fan draw more than 1 Amp (eg one is 0.5A and one is 0.7A), they will slow down.
most pc fan dont draw that much, 0.5a fan is usually high speed fan, 1A is server fan and 3A is ~6000 rpm fan that will create black holes in your pc tongue.gif

Anyone here have issues with the USB C ports on x570 or B450 boards? Like IO errors or frequent reconnect/ disconnect issues?
This happens on both my Asrock B450M and Dark Hero X570. When I use the USB A ports no issues.
I recently purchased one of the front panel USB ports, and even there the USB C ports misbehave. Using the USB A ports shows no issues.
Do these USB C ports have special drivers or motherborad drivers?

EDIT: I've tested with 3 different USB C to USB C cables. 50cm, 1M, and 2M cables. Tested on my Galaxy Note 8 and MI A1.
*
Used to have such issue, which persisted for sometimes, i have few USB HDD and thumbdrive,
the USB disconnection is more specific issue related to cable, or the SATA-USB adapter, was using the old Asus sata to usb adapter for my old HDD, the disconnection happens very frequent until i replaced it with new adapter, now no more random disconnection.

i face no such problem as a regular consumer. well, to each their own. but expect AM5 platform to be buggy also initially.
*
Every revision contains bug, there are no bugs free software/hardware. cpu are incredibly complex stuff.
the bugs always got fixed in later EFI firmware, new mobo revision and cpu stepping.

I expect the platform to be more stable as time passed, not unstable  dry.gif

AMD doesn't even fix fTPM stutter bug completely, USB random disconnection frequency simply reduced, WHEA error etc.
*
I do experience bsod on my R7 6800 lappy, but that's because im using beta Win11.
Main rig is because aging GPU and weak PSU, I do experience Bluetooth disconnection via USB, also due to EOL wifi adapter.

My mini pc work great actually, which is Asus pn-51 R7 5700U, the mentioned TPM issue never really affected me.

BSOD is very common, my company use DELL+Intel for every PC, even such expensive stuff (Latitude 7320 Detachable) still i still encounter BSOD.

Everyone expecting AMD to blew Intel away and look what happened. I never thought after all these years, multi core (>8) uplift in gaming is still so weak.

Direct x 12 and vulkan already removed the drawcall limitations, which was the performance limiting factor in old api.
It's game engine could not fully utilize the cpu even using dx12 and vulkan.

Doom 2016 I'd tech engine, and the newer one are the only few games that very well written game engine.
And it plays nicely with Radeon gpu too.

Doom 2016, Wolfenstein 2 and doom eternal are the games that I can 4k60fps with my vega64, and r7 3700 cpu.

Since Microsoft bought the studio that made the engine, if they are smart enough you could see their new game use the ID tech 7 engine

Because not much people support the "second best", people always want intel, Nvidia and both keep suppressing amd by keeping it out of oem, using various strategies to keep amd at bay.

People don't need 200 iq to figure out why AMD decades later still the second best.

Qualcomm is come for x86 laptop, if they can improve the realtime x86 to arm64 translation performance in the future, there will be no more Intel and duopoly

Problem is ARM is not X86/64 native so its to be expected translation inefficiencies. Intel tried to do the other way by using X86 cpu to run ARM but suffers the same deficiencies. The only way X86 will be threatened is if X86 apps can run natively on ARM based OS.
*
they need a push, like promote from big game studio Cognoverse, their native x86 anticheat of course wont work, rewrite kernel driver and native launcher and binary should not be an issue for them
the same for steam deck, they push the gaming on linux rather relies on windows, the push from valve will make the linux gaming become viable in future for casual user.

traditional x86 is good because less compatibility issue like driver and software, but the hardware duopoly from amd and intel performance progression is slow as heck, Qualcomm need to kick them form the high horse.

a few % of slowdown probably unnoticeable for casual user, as if we have time to measure fps and loading time difference
we only want affordable hardware and ease of use to play.
