QUOTE(dazzle @ Mar 10 2007, 11:00 PM)

Added on March 10, 2007, 11:10 pmcrazymouse,

My friend ask me why his robo fight each other.

1 male 1 female, buy from different place(just bought about 5 hours already).

Can you advise me.
*
He just bought them? Aiyoh.... must let them get used to each other.... not every hamster will like each other when put them in 1 cage.... if they fight, do not place in the cage but in a tank with a wire mesh barrier... the wire mesh barrier will help to bond the hamsters without hurting themselves.... look at the gerbil's thread 1st page... I think Jaswwp showed a pic of a mesh barrier.

Also, were they the same age? Coz normally adults do not get along.... young ones will.

QUOTE(~Rogue~ @ Mar 11 2007, 04:21 PM)
i just bought a water bottle for my hamster..and it seems like the water keep on dripping !! izzit normal ?? and will it make the bedding wet and not confortable for my hammy? newbie here!! and i'm using a aquarium as my cage!!
*
Many cheap bottles leak....

QUOTE(joanalooidog @ Mar 11 2007, 04:37 PM)
no wor, all my bottles r 4.90 those type wor, no driping ah..........
*
Sometimes depends on the brand or supplier.... I used to buy Kingfisher brand, RM5 only... never leak... but those like Delikate, majority leaks a bit.

QUOTE(~Rogue~ @ Mar 11 2007, 05:07 PM)
kk..later i going there  and buy another awn..ask them to try for me 1st!!

my hammy..dunno y..likes to sleep very much...and i put him in a air cond room...izzit good...i put the temperature to 24!
*
Hamsters are nocturnal. They normally sleep during the day... they are only awake in the evenings and are active at night.... late night.... then they sleep back when the temperature changes to day time.

QUOTE(broC @ Mar 11 2007, 05:17 PM)
err...1 silly question here... sweat.gif

can i feed hams wif cats kibbles and suppliment like nutrigel n omega oil??
*
Yes, you can feed with cat kibbles. Hamsters do not need so much supplement. What you can do is soak a small piece of bread with the oil and let them lick and eat the bread but do it only once a week.

Hamsters are nocturnal.... and because of their small body size, rodents tend to sleep more than humans.... so do not worry. Only worry when sleep till cannot wake up no matter how much you shake the cage and only worry when it never eats....

QUOTE(coldfusionpower @ Mar 11 2007, 07:51 PM)
err. just curious. can i put 3-4 WW males in one place/home ?
*
You can.... but do you wanna risk them fighting? If you are planning to put so many together, do provide a large 2ft tank. A cage would make them fight unless you get a 3 tier cage if you are planning for 4.... but if you keep 3, get a 2 tier cage... I sugges Critter Trail Two or Critter Trail 3... coz I am using this cage to house 3 campbells together.

QUOTE(jaspery27 @ Mar 11 2007, 07:52 PM)
why my RC nvr like to eat egg white??????? hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif  hmm.gif
*
Egg white no taste mah.... why not you beat the eggs before cooking.... what I do is beat the raw egg, then in a glass bowl, heat in microwave till cooked.... of course there are the picky eaters.... but chicken meat is always favoured.

QUOTE(Syrian @ Mar 11 2007, 09:19 PM)
is there anything that I can give to my syrian to make him chubby ?? He's skinny like a stick -.-
*
Extra protein... you can give mealworms, crickets, eggs and chicken meat. Also, you can provide some essential oils like soak a small piece of bread with some olive oil.
Provide some good nuts as well like cashew nuts... make sure is raw and not the salty kind.

QUOTE(broC @ Mar 11 2007, 09:23 PM)
daily cat kibbles n weekly supplemnt oso can aa???sory haa..just beginnger.. sweat.gif

Added on March 11, 2007, 9:33 pmerr...another question...no need giv vaccin and worm treatmnt or something like that??? sweat.gif  sweat.gif
*
Well, you can feed daily or feed 2 small pieces every 2 days.... For me, I give them daily since it is already in their food coz I mixed it... but I ration one piece of kibble a day for them. The omega oils can be given once a week.

No... there is no vaccination and deworming for hamsters... but lets say you think your hamster is sick and could have some worms or parasites in the tummy, feed it raw pumpkin.... the flesh of the pumpkin that is closest to the seeds (the slimmy part) has the best natural dewormer effect.

question:
my friend asked.. is it hamster will be effected by the loud volume of sound?
he is planning to have a hamster, but wonder about it..
actually he likes to turn his speaker loudly..
*
Yes, loud noise can disturb a hamster.... they are quiet animals s they do prefer minimal noise... blasting the speaker would make it stressed and unhappy later. This goes for many animals actually...

QUOTE(anizarina @ Mar 12 2007, 09:53 AM)
thats true Syrian.
..my other robos oso very hard to hold..for the first time i hold it, it just jump off my palm without looking down first..the other one that on the picture did look around first and did not just jump...before this, my sis have a hamster that is a local hamster.it will look first before jump even it is hard to hold...but this robos is like the berani type.never feel takut to jump...i dunno how to make it tame like the small one where i can watch movie read comic with it...

vmad.gif sometimes, i am quite geram with it because when it comes to time to clean the cage, he will be the 1st to ran off and as usual, it is hard to catch it back...actually, last saturday, when i tried to give it a drink, it fell AGAIN from my palm..i am so scared..thank god, until today, it is still as usual, keep running and running and running if it see me want to catch it..if i get to catch it, it will throw all the food on its mouth..aiyark.... doh.gif ..and sometimes, he started to bit me..ususally the robos did not bitting rite????(the person on the pet shop told me)
*
Robos are like that.... you see, they are the most active... not to say berani lah but they will do things without thinking coz too scared.

Yes, Robos do not bite but they will bite if they feel threaten...is like us humans, if someone catch us, you will kick and try your best to free yourself rite? It's the same thing for hamsters.

pros , was wondering, roboski has long line on back or not? coz i read around they say robos only came in one color, white line on eyes and no stripe. tho the shopkeeper here claims tht the stripes one in his shop is roboski. it was , grey white a bit winter white color and small. no white eye lines
*
Ah... wrong lah.... Robos no line at all.... the shop keeper must have no knowledge on hamsters at all...

I do not mind some petshops label Roborovski or Robos.... but Robot Skit? Wahh.... sounds so exotic hahahah...

QUOTE(Syrian @ Mar 12 2007, 07:28 PM)
MY syrian is found dead in his cage!!!! I went to class whole day and now i came back and found him dead!!! WHY??? What's the reason wor ??  cry.gif  cry.gif  He couldn't be dying from old age coz he's not even 1 year old!!! And remember I told u guys my syrian has been very skinny lately and how I asked for advice to make him chubby??  Why did he die ??? He eats like normal and sleeps like normal.  He plays with me like normal as well.  Just that his motion slowed down a bit and he became skinny.  But why ??? Can anyone tell me ?  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  I jz played with him last nite and he was like his usual self.  I don't see any sickness symptoms or pain from him except that he's thinner than before.  WHY???  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif  cry.gif
*
Oh my, sorry to hear that.

Hmmmmm.... hamsters can show sickness in a lot of ways... being skinny and slow may mean he got some internal thing going on. This is the cons of keeping hamsters.... because their lifespan is so short, any sickness can get to them fast and cause sudden deaths...

The Seri Kembangan petshop got many Syrians.... but over crowded cages lah I would say.... I didn't ask the price but I know most of their stuff is slightly higher than other shops. You can go check it out. The shop owner is very friendly.

QUOTE(Syrian @ Mar 13 2007, 04:09 PM)
i din see prestige.  Got a lot of Delikate and some other brands like Benjy, Habitrail, etc...  I saw that Delikate has the best colour-looking among the rest; datz y i bought delikate ..  It's also edible without harming the hamsters' health, right ?
*
Delikate is... erm.... too much colouring. Habitrail is much better. In Delikate, you are actually paying more for the pellets... which is nothing much than corn and soya... The best is giving a mixture. I give Habitrail mixed with Prestige....

You said that you used to feed your old Syrian with sunflower seeds, oats and barley.... not a good diet at all. Oats, when consumed too much can caused impaction.

QUOTE(joanalooidog @ Mar 13 2007, 04:41 PM)
The petshop at SK only sells Delikate and Habitrail. I personally prefer Habitrail coz it has less coloring. If u feed ur hamster wif delikate, u'll notice that they left the colorful biscuit out.........
Do post some pics on ur syrian lah.......  brows.gif
*
Yes, I agree with you. Habitrail is better than Delikate in my terms also.

Hamsters sleep throughout the day.... they are only cative for a few hours at night while you are sleeping.... so it is normal for it to eat and sleep in the day, it is not a sign of laziness but a normal behaviour.

It is also normal for hamsters to try and escape from cages coz it is not their natural habitat. This is why the best to house a hamster is a tank coz less stress. To keep a hamster busy, we provide it with a wheel to let out its energy.

27% is a high fat content.... this is why we say fatty.... if it is only 10% then ok. So it is a lot of fat. Hamsters are small animals and their bodies cannot take so much fat.

A cricket has Cricket has 21.3% protein, 6.0% fat, 3.2% fiber and 70% water content. Lower in fat and healthier.

A mealworm has 20.3% protein, 12.7% fat, 1.7% fiber and 62% water.... also mealworms are low in calcium, high phosphorus & fat, hard chitin shell.

This is why mealworms should not be fed too often or too many. Crickets are safer and they are easier to gutload also.

If you feed a few a day is ok... but 20? My advice was for those 20 mealworms at 1 go.... to me it is like fried chicken and steam chicken... which is healthier? Of course steam chicken rite? So you would be eating more steam chicken than fried chicken also mah.

Also, those facts I found is for reptiles and it is very important for us to not feed too many mealworms to reptiles since mealworms is damn high in phosphorus and has the hard exoskeleton. Even my glider only eats crickets, which I have seen very good improvement in her size already.

My hamsters are also eating crickets instead of mealworms now....

Added on March 14, 2007, 10:47 amI just drop a few crickets into the cage or tank.... my Syrians straight away catch. My WW also... some of my campbells like me to feed them by hand. My rats chase crickets like crazy.... of course cricket lifespan shorter la but it is worth it to give something good to the hamsters.

Crickets... 30 is RM1... but you no need feed so many also. 3 crickets a day is enough.

hahaha .. true true ..my niece wanna spend alot for the hamster playthings. so i just let her la. never want to listen to uncle ..

btw, this is my first time with WW. i did breed Syrian 7 years ago. but it seem i already forgot a lot of things about hamsters. old alreadyy .. wahkakaka...

this is my DIY cage. it is still under constuction. only the penthouse and 3rd floor have floor for the bedding. didn't have time to make another two. so since it's a DIY and with my lousy Kemahiran Hidup skills, it's not perfect, it doesn't look good but good enough to keep the WW inside. and running in the wheel all morning ( 1am till now). i can hear the wheel spin ..

Wah... good handy work also.... but the wire mesh availabel in our local hardware shops are galvanised wire... and I was about to DIY a rat cage when I came upon many websites saying that galvanised wire can be toxic.... the best if coated wire mesh which I do not think we can find here.... Well, hope not much chewing is done lah.

Also, the floor pan is a bit too low.... bedding sure kick out later unless your hamster doesn't dig. Overall, this kind of cage has good ventilation lah.

wanna ask ar .. my syrian is golden in colour but the inside of the fur (the 1st half of it growing frm the skin) is greyish in colour.  Does that mean that she is a silver het grey?? Or is there such thing as golden het grey? tongue.gif  And then the other syrian is wholly white in colour and has two brown patches at the eyes.  What is that colour then ?

P/s: i couldn't take any pictures at all coz they're moving pretty fast.  No chance to snap any still pictures.
*
Did you look at the old hamster thread? A pic of a Het silver grey is on the 1st page.
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/348425

I do not think there is a golden het grey. Silver grey looks silvery... a light grey. Het grey would look slightly creamy in colour.

If it is golden and the fur under coat is something else, it could be some other colour. Is your hamster a black eyed hamster?

Ah... your Syrian colour could be a golden hamster.... I had one long ago...... not het silver grey. Then the other could be a spotted Golden... I can't see the colour cleary on the head since can see more white heheheh....

Long haired Golden hamsters tend to be more grey than short haired Golden hamsters..... Well, this is what I have read here

http://www.geocities.com/dyno08/hamagouti.html

Added on March 15, 2007, 9:54 pmOr it could be an Umbrous Golden.... I'm not very sure but umbrous causes the fur to be either a shadow of dark grey or light grey....

Good website for Syrian hamsters... can see almost all the colour varieties in it.
