Hamsters shrink in size as they past their 1st year.... is like humans lah, once we reach about 70, our bodies will shrink too. This is old age.... dwarf hamsters like Russian Campbell age faster.... then comes Winter White, then Robo and Chinese... Robo and Chinese can go on for 3 years.... even 3.5 years if taken good care... but RCs have a shorter lifespan, around 1.5 to 2 years only.... while WW is about 2 years to 2.5 years... but all hamsters are considered old age once they reach 1 year plus.... they are normally at their prime at around 6 months old....

Hamsters must have fresh food.... well, you can give cooked eggs, chicken and cooked fish.... never raw meat or raw eggs.... mealworms and crickets are good protein source for their bodies too. Also, they need a bit of vegie and fruits now and then for a healthy diet and a healthy gut. Leafy vegies are the best.

Yes, hamsters can get good protein and minerals from dried catfood or dried dogfood.... but not Alpo or Friskies lah... get something like Royal Canin, Science Plan .... the good brands.

Many people misjudge RCs.... but they are actually better in a few ways than WW.... RCs more sociable too.

I still dunno why people like to buy treats for hamsters... the best treats are fruits and vegies.... whatever that is sold at petshops are just empty calories, maybe a bit of vitamins but mostly carbs, sugar and salt. The only treat I think is ok to give is the yogurt drops. Do not feed more than 1 a day. It is not really healthy for them.

Kuaci and Corn? It's already inside the staple food, why do you need to buy extra? It will just make them put on weight and kuaci is unhealthy if taken too much.

Corn and kuaci is not healthy if taken alot lah.... we have already advice that the best staple is Prestige and Harry Hamster. You buy Delikate is it? That brand is not a good staple at all.... even Habitrail is so so but better than Delikate.

Not clear? Sleep together doesn't mean they love each other. They sleep together coz cold, need body heat to stay warm. Just separate before one day you open a thread and cry out dead hamster.... it is better to take precaution and be safe before regretting.

Is it so difficult? The alfalfa pellets in cheap food of course will have many. If you buy the corn in 1 pack, kuaci in 1 pack... there is not much nutrition. You can actually make the life of the hamster shorter. Green beans and red beans.... better not give as animals cannot take raw beans.... Barley it will eat, rice only when cooked. The supermarket ones? You can mix it into the normal mix but where are the vitamins and minerals? Don't follow your friend, I think your friend never read up on hamster nutrition.
I think you are purchasing a cheap brand of hamster food, which makes the hamster eat less. You should get high quality ones like Prestige or Harry Hamster.... having a pet means being responsible for the overall health, diet and housing. So don't be stingy, trying to save a few RM here and there. Summore your hamster have babies, please don't just follow what people do. Read up, listen to experience keepers here.

If you want to make your own mix, can.... but follow this:

Organic Brown rice
Buckwheat
Rolled Oats
Flaxseed
Sun flower seed
Lentils
Millet
Raw wheat
Pumpkin seed
a few peanuts

and fresh fruit and vegies:

Carrot
Apple
Sawi
Broccoli
Cabbage(a bit only)
Corn
Banana
alfalfa sprouts
Pear
Cooked sweet potato

and supplement with:

Cooked egg
Cooked Chicken
Cooked rice
Stale bread
Dried dogfood/catfood(super premium brands)

So which is better? Getting everything in 1 packet or buying everything in that long list to feed? Of course the fresh foods must be given occasionally but if you just get a few beans, seeds and grains from the supermarket, I don't think you will be giving your hamster a good life.

Change colour.... what colour? It's not winter gold... it is Pudding, a winter white hybrid. They change colour to either a dirty brown or a greyish brown.... this happens when they mature to become adults. It won't change back to the lovely orange colour. If it changes white, it means it is changing to the winter coat, this normally happens when you keep the hamsters in a dark place.

Warm or cool won't effect much but if too cold can cause a hamster to sleep more, which is unhealthy.

Puddings never stay orange for ever. As they grow older, they become browner or with some grey. This is coz it is not a pure winter white. It is a hybrid.

You just came back from hometown? They could be fighting over food or over territory.... really, if this goes on for so long already, just separate them lah. Hamsters do not feel lonely like humans do. They also got short memory so they can easily forget their tankmate.

Aiyoh, coz 1 male is infertile, and my female just birth 1 agouti male pup and 1 sapphire female pup.... must wait she finish weaning them, rest and only then can breed with my new pearl male.

Yer... weird hahah.... Maybe it breed with the babies? Or have you really separated her alone for that period? Another reason could be is that she delayed the birth and kept the sperm in her body.... which I don't think happens to hamsters but more on gerbils... weird.

It is not good to breed hamsters at young age... lifespan shorten. The normal lifespan is about 2 years but if you breed early, it cuts short to 1 year... lucky, can go 1.5 years.

Also, if breed early, it will cause the female to become smaller, stunted in growth and the babies will come out unhealthy.

This is why it is better to buy single sexed pairs and only breed once you have enough knowledge. Sometimes the bullying can become death. I had experienced it before... put 2 pearls together.... always make noise and are on top each other.... then suddenly 1 dies with part of the head eaten away.... this is why we strongly suggest, keep them single. They are happy as single.
