hi guys. just brought the miix 510 with intel 7th gen processor.

I wan wondering is there any battery life preserving features? limiting the maximum charge rate below 100%
*
Wow. Really?

Not sure if Lenovo quietly updated the 510 without releasing the 720 locally (EDIT: Apparently, according to the Singapore site, they did lol... Seriously Lenovo, way to diss the folks who got your Skylake 510s).

Also, not quite sure about battery preservation features other than the built in charge limiter. Personally I need more battery life so I leave it off.

Hi, where is the charger limiter feature located? Can't seem to find it.

It's in the Lenovo Settings app, under charge behavior or something.

Funny that this is actually kinda like my story too lol.

The Switch 12 was the "switch" that turned me towards seriously considering Surface-likes (coz y'know, the real thing was sooo very out of reach). But one final physical test at DigiMall turned me to the 510 instead, if not just due to the Lenovo active pen not being the wavy mess the Switch stylus was.

Plus, so far, the 510 has been and still is a very dependable performer indeed, especially on my travels when I NEED access to a full fledged computer with none of the bulk... and at work as my primary note-taking device.

And you're welcome, bro.

Do stick around if you have any questions or anything you need help with. Will be happy to assist if it's within my means.

BTW, is your processor a i5 6000-series (Skylake) or 7000-series (Kaby Lake)? I'm asking because one of our comrades seem to have managed to score himself a 510 with a Kaby Lake i5.

Oh well, welcome to the Sky clan lol. Thankfully Skylake is the Tock (Architecture revamp) in Intel's TickTock, so we're not missing too much lol, other than some rather nice HEVC/VP9 optimisations in Kaby Lake's new HD 620 iGPU (encoding AND decoding).

Note that Skylake was actually the last Tock now that Intel has moved to a "process-architecture-optimization" cycle, but Kaby is still more a "optimization" update than anything major.

The eternal geek inside of me is still pretty jealous though lol.

exactly! i don't mind much on other things but if kaby's can tahan abit more 1 or 2 hour on battery life, then i'm pretty jealous.

speaking of battery life, i'm not sure whether you notice this. i see quite a difference when switching power saver mode using windows versus switching power saver mode using lenovo setting. i get much more battery life using lenovo setting which sometimes indicates i have more than 24 hours left lol.

Do keep in mind that the Windows battery life estimation can be somewhat... optimistic lol. I haven't really tested both myself to confirm, but 24 hours seems a little bit TOO much IMHO.

24 hours is of course doesn't make any sense. but i think on lenovo setting, it does the job better and so far i got much more usage time. however, i can "feel" a bit slowness since cpu being throttled down which is noticeable when browsing. certainly that is something i can tolerate.

Ehhhhh. Where is it? Is it in the old sim card slot area (under the stand, near the left hinge?)

Man, now that's enviable. I have a couple of 64gb cards lying around too and stuffing another 256gb card in there would have potentially gotten us 1256gb max (1tb SSD + max current mSD cap).

Darn.

Funny that NONE of the normal Tech Sources have picked up that Lenovo refreshed the 510. Most are too busy reporting on the new 720 it seems like.

Yup. Is underneath the hinge where I suppose where the sim located in the Skylake generation.

One of the reason I'm pulling my decision against miix 510 is because the lack of memory card reader compare to Acer's. I believe even the sales personel have no idea about this as when I made the purchase, he didn't inform me about upgrade.

No idea about the pen. Anywhere to differentiate it?

Coming from Haswell 1.5ghz with 4gb ram. This thing really fly, I able to surf the internet with dozen of tabs open and no lag or what so ever.

Battery wise, with the above usage, I'm able to churn out approx. 6 hours with battery saver mode and 25% brightness.

Err, the sim slots are plugged in our versions coz, as you have observed, they did not ship ours with a modem-equipped motherboard.

Even if we unplug it, the actual sim holder is missing AND we still need that modem-equpped motherboard.

The keyboard keys F2 F3 F4 F11 are by default not F2 F3 F4 F11, they are instead brightness and etc

Any way for user to use the F kesys without pressing Fn key?

You have to install the update to the folio keyboard firmware (available from the Lenovo website under Miix 510 drivers) to enable being able to choose Fn Lock being "default" (or otherwise).

With Fn Lock set as default, the keys "should" function as you mentioned.
