yeah ... but DSLR not convenient to bring around. And most of all i not planning to go too deep tongue.gif

I'm not talking about DSLR.

- The kit lens with a run of the mill dslr is normally f3.5 at its widest.

- RX100 has 1" sensor and f1.8 lens at the wide end

- A smartphone has roughly (depending on brand) 1/2.5" sensor more or less f2.0 lens

- Both the canon and panasonic you mention has 1/2.3" sensor and f3.3 at best case scenario.. widest.

Such scenario imo..

RX100 > DSLR+kit > good smartphone > 1/2.3" compacts.

after digging some reviews on son HX90V, seems promising.

I did thought about getting a good camera phone eg Huawei P9. but the question 'does phone cameras better than 'a camera in terms of image quality(day n night)?' always pop in my head. Can share your view?

n camera phone usually has bad zoom image biggrin.gif

Cameraphone, no matter how good, wont beat the HX90V but of course it's more convenient. As you said, no optical zoom for phones can be limiting especially for your usage.

sensor size also plays a factor. a f2.0 lens on a phone =/= f2.0 on a mirrorless. also bigger sensors can handle higher ISO, which helps to overcome the smaller f-stop

Yes... hence I bring out sensor size as well.

Ignoring things like jpeg processing..... 1" sensor is splitting hairs with 16mp m43 sensor (comparing between my RX100 Mk1 and GX7/GF7) so its within 1 1/2 stop to a good APSC sensor (fuji X-E2) when sticking below ISO1600 which IMO is the max ISO I would use day to day scenario.

1/2.3" on the hand will koyak above base ISO.... most most ISO200.

After that its all jpeg processing oversharpened over NR watercolor.

How about Fujifilm X30? Fits budget and specs looks to top the HX90V.. faster lens..but shorter range.

This applies only to cameras with smaller than 1" sensor like the canon/panasonic and HX90V you mentioned.

No they are not better in practical terms.

1) You have to carry an additional item.. the camera.... along with charger and battery if its got no USB charging.

2) If you only ever take photos in perfect bright daylight then the big zoom is fine.
Indoors, overcast day and after sunset *gasp*... zoom becomes a moot feature as you'll be shooting with ISO so high that its not worth the bother.

ps: Huawei P9 got no OIS.

Bigger sensor... not 1" though but size is kinda huge.

Fuji colors especially skin tone is sweet.

Discontinued model.

Seems sony rx100 mark 2 is my best choice now. Few hundreds more than mark 1 but with wifi n such. Zoom is still low though.

Since its a travel camera, i will use more on scenery n objects. Meaning most day image n occasional night image. Mark 2 is my best choice?

Yup. Mk1 and Mk2 are identical except for the tilt screen and hotshoe.

Mk3 and Mk5 are the game changers.

Just back from 2 camera shop.

Shop A recommend me a w500😥 n their rx100 mark 2 is 2k+. Above my budget.

Shop B recommends me canon g9 ( i think) over sony hx90v. Says although sony has 1c lens , canon has better aperture.

Now dilemma again.

WX500 is very similar to HX90V. Still a good choice IMO, about rm150 cheaper i think. as long as you dont mind not having a viewfinder (sometimes it's hard to look at the screen to judge your photos under bright sunlight).

If G9 dont bother. G9X seems like a good choice too but never played with one tongue.gif

so it's either to get mk3 or to skip mk4 and get mk5 instead? I saw mk3 ppl complain about when tuck in viewfinder will automatic switch off the camera sweat.gif sweat.gif

now im torn between mk3, mk4 and mk5.. whether to save extra money to get a 2nd hand mk3 and get a mk6 once it releases or to settle with mk4 or go straight for mk5 and change when mk8-9 came out lol..

my last camera is xz-1 which i had been using it since 2012, i guess its time to change.

EVF auto turn off thing is just minor annoyance only ok.

Just a matter of getting used to

There's much bigger dilemmas than that.

Enjoy!!
