hi all, like to tumpang thread. i also looking for a travel camera but with lower budget. i have read some reviews n prices n come down to canon powershot sx720 hs and sony rx100 mark 1. canon is 2016 model n has latest tech(i think) but i read alot reviews saying rx100 is a very good camera but mark 1 is about 5 years old now, still worth buying it?

SX720 has a 1/2.3" sensor which is roughly the same as whats in most decent phones these days. The only advantage it has over a phone is that it zooms a lot. It's also got a very slow f/3.3 – f/6.9 lens. In comparison most phones are f2.2 or faster.

RX100 on the other hand has a 1" sensor. It's got no 4k, wifi, evf, pdaf, selfie screen like the latest versions but it does inherently takes pretty good photos and allows for growth if you get into the hobby.

Can't say if RX100 is still worth buying now (I'm still keeping mine) but for sure I won't get the SX720 tongue.gif

the panasonic TZ80 also has a 1/2.3" sensor, similar with the canon SX720. IMO, might as well shoot from your phone haha. less stuff to carry around, easier to share.

you can see the large difference between the 1/2.3" and 1" sensor in the pic posted by sniper above. more than 4x the area. Photos from the 1" are sometimes virtually indistinguishable from DSLR photos.

so for image quality, RX100 for sure. no wifi but you can get a toshiba flashair SD card for phone transfers smile.gif

BUT, the zoom range is not a wide as the TZ80. perhaps the sony HX90V is more comparable.

after digging some reviews on son HX90V, seems promising.

I did thought about getting a good camera phone eg Huawei P9. but the question 'does phone cameras better than 'a camera in terms of image quality(day n night)?' always pop in my head. Can share your view?

n camera phone usually has bad zoom image biggrin.gif

In addition to dvlzplayground has said... These travel zoom are mainly for bright daylight only.

Once the light dims then gg.

Seems sony rx100 mark 2 is my best choice now. Few hundreds more than mark 1 but with wifi n such. Zoom is still low though.

Since its a travel camera, i will use more on scenery n objects. Meaning most day image n occasional night image. Mark 2 is my best choice?

Just back from 2 camera shop.

Shop A recommend me a w500😥 n their rx100 mark 2 is 2k+. Above my budget.

Shop B recommends me canon g9 ( i think) over sony hx90v. Says although sony has 1c lens , canon has better aperture.

Now dilemma again.

the thing about the RX series is that the newer models will be more expensive tongue.gif

not like smartphones where a new version replaces the old one at the same price..

really that good? read some reviews kinda branding it the rx series the ultimate point n shoot camera. shocking.gif

is the 2.9x optical zoom on the rx100 M3 enough?

thinking to get the mark 3 now although above initial budget. Cause it seems to fit everything I asking for. Compact size, 180 degree tilt screen, low light, some manual functions to play a round for different effects and i believe it will last me several years before it become truly obsolete. Only concern now is the zoom. Reviews I read doesnt seem to comment on the zoom. Can RX100 users share your views?
