thanks. if comparison with panasonic tz80? it has 4k tongue.gif
*
the panasonic TZ80 also has a 1/2.3" sensor, similar with the canon SX720. IMO, might as well shoot from your phone haha. less stuff to carry around, easier to share.

you can see the large difference between the 1/2.3" and 1" sensor in the pic posted by sniper above. more than 4x the area. Photos from the 1" are sometimes virtually indistinguishable from DSLR photos.

so for image quality, RX100 for sure. no wifi but you can get a toshiba flashair SD card for phone transfers smile.gif

BUT, the zoom range is not a wide as the TZ80. perhaps the sony HX90V is more comparable.

after digging some reviews on son HX90V, seems promising.

I did thought about getting a good camera phone eg Huawei P9. but the question 'does phone cameras better than 'a camera in terms of image quality(day n night)?' always pop in my head. Can share your view?

n camera phone usually has bad zoom image biggrin.gif

Cameraphone, no matter how good, wont beat the HX90V but of course it's more convenient. As you said, no optical zoom for phones can be limiting especially for your usage.

I'm not talking about DSLR.

- The kit lens with a run of the mill dslr is normally f3.5 at its widest.

- RX100 has 1" sensor and f1.8 lens at the wide end

- A smartphone has roughly (depending on brand) 1/2.5" sensor more or less f2.0 lens

- Both the canon and panasonic you mention has 1/2.3" sensor and f3.3 at best case scenario.. widest.

Such scenario imo..

RX100 > DSLR+kit > good smartphone > 1/2.3" compacts.

sensor size also plays a factor. a f2.0 lens on a phone =/= f2.0 on a mirrorless. also bigger sensors can handle higher ISO, which helps to overcome the smaller f-stop

yeah I dont really get why the fuji x30 has to be that size haha. rx100 is more powerful and smaller.

if rx100 m2 is within reach, why not? smile.gif actually i dont even know where to buy rx100 mk1 anymore haha

Just back from 2 camera shop.

Shop A recommend me a w500😥 n their rx100 mark 2 is 2k+. Above my budget.

Shop B recommends me canon g9 ( i think) over sony hx90v. Says although sony has 1c lens , canon has better aperture.

Now dilemma again.

WX500 is very similar to HX90V. Still a good choice IMO, about rm150 cheaper i think. as long as you dont mind not having a viewfinder (sometimes it's hard to look at the screen to judge your photos under bright sunlight).

If G9 dont bother. G9X seems like a good choice too but never played with one tongue.gif

the thing about the RX series is that the newer models will be more expensive tongue.gif

not like smartphones where a new version replaces the old one at the same price..

is the 2.9x optical zoom on the rx100 M3 enough?

thinking to get the mark 3 now although above initial budget. Cause it seems to fit everything I asking for. Compact size, 180 degree tilt screen, low light, some manual functions to play a round for different effects and i believe it will last me several years before it become truly obsolete. Only concern now is the zoom. Reviews I read doesnt seem to comment on the zoom. Can RX100 users share your views?
*
zooms needs are widely different depending on what you normally shoot. landscape / architecture shooters will prefer wide angles, sports will prefer the opposite, etc.

24-70mm range is a probably the best 'all-rounder'. in fact, most DSLRs / mirrorless are normally sold with lenses of this range. another good thing about not having a long zoom is it will train you to move closer to your subject ("zoom with your feet"), which usually results in a better composition smile.gif

sony A6000 is still worth to get?
*
i still think it's the best value in the market right now tongue.gif heck, the price even gone up slightly.. that should tell you how good it is haha.

obviously A6300 and A6500 are better if you can afford it, but most of the improvements are for video.

hi guys, sorry i'm a newbie here and i would like to ask for advice on which camera to get ^^" i'm currently using my gopro and iphone for my travel photos but sometimes i'm not satisfied with the outcome of the photos.. doh.gif

If my budget were to be anything below 3.5k, may i know what are the recommended cameras that i should get? I'm looking for a travel camera that's light, compact and don't require interchangeable lens. I don't mind second hand as well.

From the thread here it seems that A6000 or Fujifilm X70 is a good choice? I personally like the outlook of Fujifilm cameras. Heard their colour is amazing biggrin.gif
*
if you dont require interchangeable lenses then X70 is better smile.gif i recommend to get maybe 1 or 2 extra batteries as well.

personally i would vote for the X100S because i prefer the 35mm (equiv) lens and viewfinder. but you dont get the touch-enabled tilt-screen.
