OOT

It's hot discussion now in EPF - self contribution thread starting from this page.

I'm already moving my FD allocation funds to EPF for years wink.gif  Coincidentally my BR FD is maturing mid June in coming 2 weeks. Just nice to  max the remaining 40k into EPF for higher interest. Recent year FD max 4.5-4.8% while EPF easily 5.0-6.5%
If more than 1M, can withdraw the excess like savings account any time via online, just takes 2-3 working days.

Keep elsewhere and only deposit into EPF end month. Deposits only start earning interest for 1 day on the month you deposit, no matter when you deposit...

I can see it too.

Probably operator typed in wrongly - more likely to be 3.3%.

Fast fast whack and make them honor it, if you have a confirmation slip.

You can move it into UOB one month and out on next month day 1. You can transact on your balance at any time during the month - reduce, increase back, etc. The interest is calculated on monthly average, not on daily basis. Then following month move it in again. I don't find it difficult at all. I'm not looking for quarterly extra 1% deal, so not so complicated to me. Definitely a better deal than keeping it always in Rize, for the months when you can earn 5% in Stash. As long as they continue to extend the promo, it's good icon_rolleyes.gif

You're right. So in this 3 month long campaign, we could take advantage of August and October to place a max of RM100k for a 5% return, which will be paid out in 1 Dec 2023 and 1 Feb 2024 respectively. But for the FD enthusiasts this leaves them with a challenge of where to place the funds in Sept, then again in Nov.

No one size fits all, everyone has their own preference lah. Good that this works for you and thanks for sharing.

Time to move on to 4.5%-5% T-bills? Works like an FD right... (If you ignore the ability to also buy and sell at opportune moments)

Can you elaborate a bit? US T-Bills?

Malaysia also have .. part of the bond market but I guess I'm digressing. FD is a lot easier and commonplace.

Why so kiam siap with max cap so little.

It's a trick. Last time lure new customers with rm120 cash upfront. Now show high interest but the cap makes the total payout less.

Recently i was conflicted on what to do with my money from a house sale in australia. its around 550k aud

when i went there for holiday last week, i opened a premier account. it is 5.5% for 3 months and then 4% for the rest of the year.

should i keep it in that account for the 3 months or bring it back and change to ringgit?

i dont know about capital gains tax, but the house did not appreciate like a british or malaysian property would, and i would be losing money as i bought it when aud was 3.1 9 year ago.

now it is 2.8, and i am scared of it dropping further

please advise

thank you

does ur AUD FD income get taxed?

do u expect currency to go up or down?

do u expect to get taxed when you bring back your money into Malaysia?

PS: this is a Malaysian FD thread, so the topics about foreign property, deposits, taxation are a bit OOT. If like for like, then the % interest is comparatively good lah.
