To the people who invest in FD's, is this your major investment? why? what do you think of the returns after inflation(~1.6%), which is negligible?
*
I would like to learn from you if there's any investment which is AS LIQUID AND AS SECURED as FD that gives more than 4.2% p.a. ? Sometimes more than 5% p.a in the case SCB's Ipad mini deal ?
I repeat ... as liquid and as secured as FD.
Please don't tell me no risk no gain, I knew it since primary school.

I feel what I am going to ask is very ignorant  whistling.gif but please bear with me, I am a newbie to investments.

I am interested to sign up for the Affin Bank Package 2 promo at 5.08%/5.18% for 12/15 months. The TnC mentioned that I need to deposit the same amount in ASNB variable funds.

May I know if the ASNB variable funds is definitely safe? As in won't rugi? And usually how much does it return?

Thank you!!!
*
No, Your investment in ASNB fund is not fixed price fund and capital not guaranteed. It will rugi if the price drop below your initial purchased price.

Hello sifus,

New to investments, is it safe to say that i should hold until all the other banks FD promotion is out and then only decide which to go to?
*
No, don't wait. Place it now.
Example, if you place 4.30% now, the effective rate is equivalent to you holding the fund 25 days without interest and place it on 20 Jan 2018 @ 4.50%

UOB has two limits, one for instant transfer 53 sen and the other normal IBG 10 sen. Total combined limit is more than 50k.

I believe other banks may have the same limits setting. My experience with 10 sen IBG, as long as it is done in the morning, the fund will be deposited.

There is no need to go back for the second trip. I IBG out and instantly issue a personal cheque. The personal cheque will only be cleared end of the day.

Your reason of using Rentas because of the amount  drool.gif is understandable.
*
If your checking account has OD facility, your IBG timing can be extended till 4.59pm, the IBGed fund will cover up your OD before 11pm within the same day. No OD interest charge.

QUOTE(attentional @ Jan 28 2018, 10:27 PM)
I was thinking loan for 5 yrs for RM70k. One year interest rate 3.88%. 5 yrs interest rate would be RM70k x 3.88% x 5 yrs = RM13,580

So if i take that RM70k and put in FD, assuming every year I am able to renew at 4.3% pa, interest earned plus principle after 5 yrs would be RM86,401.16 (compounding interest) - RM70,000 loan = RM16401.16

So i still earn interest of RM16,401.16-RM13,580 = RM2,821.16 (over 5 yrs)  sweat.gif  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

Is my calculation correct?

Actually this is my plan to force myself to save as I need to pay back my 70k loan monthly. End of 5 yrs I would have saved 86k.
*
Your RM13,580 total interest is flat rate loan calculation similar to that of hire purchase loan. If yes, you rugi kaw kaw if you put 70k into FD 4.30%
But if 3.88% is monthly rest rate, then yes, you will gain 4.30%-3.88% = 0.42% spread every month on your monthly reducing outstanding loan balance ( not on the entire 70k as you thought though). But the catch is....you are not guaranteed that FD rate is always higher than 3.88% in the next 5 years.

Question for MBB eFD - i noticed if you put 15 months and above, you can get the interest credited monthly..anyone know if u uplift on say 2nd month, your interest that they bank in still get?

I know for GIA tthey will credit you directly upon upliftment and prorate it no matter when you uplift, but wonder how it works for eFD for 15 months above with the monthly credit system?
*
Mbb will make deduction from your principal amount on premature withdrawal.

Should I put FD@HLB 4.3% today or wait next month for higher interest?
*
If you put FD now @ 4.3%, you will get about the same effective yield compare to you wait 2 weeks time and put FD @ 4.5%. Provided that you can secure a 4.5% rate in 2 weeks time. Anything longer than 2 weeks time, your effective return will be lower than 4.3% FD placed today.

Please take this infor with a pinch of salt, I'm not sure how true it is and I don't want to wait.

I got a very pleasant surprise from OCBC bank on Friday.

1. They offered my premier banking status with just RM 200k instead of the usual RM 300k since I was a customer with them before (I think)

2. Being a premier customer, I am eligible for 4.5% 12 months FD promo with option  monthly crediting of interest!

However, please contact your respective branches as the RM said as far as they know, this promo is only available in Damansara Heights & HQ for Klang Valley area.
*
If you don't mind, can you share the picture of FD receipt printed with 4.5% rate ? I want to nego with OCBC Manager. Thanks.

OCBC so far for all FD I placed, always start on the day of placement. No need to wait for cheque clearance. U should check with them again on this.

Another point is for monthly interest, tell them to open Mi FD. If not it will be normal FD acct, no monthly interest.

OCBC introduced the Mi FD acct last year. Not too sure what it stand for, likely to be "Monthly Interest", MI. So for monthly interest, u have to open the Mi FD acct which is a separate FD acct in OCBC. So some OCBC customer may not be aware of this and did not get monthly interest.

Damn, just placed last week and unaware of it.

Are you an existing Premier customer or going to be one? I haven't manage to get the printout yet & i don't have online banking either.
I already checked again on it but the response was is for 4.5% promo rate. Maybe he is quite fresh & I did not have time to go to the branch to collect the FD receipt yet. Anyway, finally got confirmation is with Mi FD.
*
I'm existing Premier customer. Just last week I placed the FD @ 4.38%, today place again, still 4.38%. My RM has no clue whatsoever on the 4.5% when asked. Thanks bbgoat for the heads up, successful opened MI FD account for monthly interest crediting. Also opened a BSA account with out fee and without debit card for monthly FD interest crediting.

By the way, if you guys looking for parking temporary fund 100k and above with 3.5% interest, go for Alliance Saveplus account. Can open the account online, can withdraw any time, no annual fee, no transaction fee, free debit card and last but not least, Free RM40 Petronas gift card.

Ops ! I've missed out an important info. Go for the Islamic Saveplus account and get 3.55% instead of 3.50% on conventional Saveplus account.
This info is not published in the Alliance's web portal.

Thanks for the added option.  thumbsup.gif

UOB eAccount (online savings account) still seem to have the better rate at 3.60% with minimum balance of RM50K as well as Free MEPS Instant Transfer.

Here's the breakdown for the eAccount Rates as of today:-
* Up to RM5,000 - 0.05%
* Up to RM20,000 - 0.80%
* Up to RM50,000 - 3.13%
* Above RM50,000 - 3.60%

The interest is effective for the total amount (not step up) and there's no maximum limit.
*
Wow, even better than Alliance for the 50k and up. thumbsup.gif Any free stuff?

My first experience with AmBank, I've already given up totally and will never bank with them in future. I took Uber all the way to Menara Ambank at KLCC after calling them to confirm the 4.4%. The best part is, they were so good at "recognizing" their staff voice within seconds and told me it was not their staff (all my conversation was recorded, so I proved to them)
I spoke to both Asst Branch Manager (Irene) and Branch Manager (he said he's Lay, refused to reveal full name).  Both were adamant that I was creating story (as I told them my friend got 4.4%).

*
The TnC for the Ambank 4.4% FD is for renewal only with minimum deposit amount RM50k. If renewal amount exceeded 50k, no need to top up. (Last day today.)
Yours is fresh fund, the promo rate for fresh fund is 4.35%. The ABM and BM didn't explain the TnC to you?

Based on info I got, fresh fund is 4.38%. It is still possible to get 4.40% for fresh fund. But this will depends on amt and could be for their PB only.

Hello sifus, noob question regarding definition of fresh funds. I’ve searched and it says funds are regarded as fresh for additional amount vs last month balance.

If my fd mature in the middle of month and deposited into savings account, if I wait till month end and redeposit, is it considered fresh?

Any genius ways to bypass the fresh fund rule to be eligible for FD promo?
*
If you u don't have chq book, IBFT out from Bank A to Bank B then withdraw by banker's chq from Bank B and bring back the chq to Bank A as fresh fund. Can be done within same day, no need to wait half a month.
You do have to take into consideration the time and traveling cost plying between Bank A and Bank B is worth the effort or not.
