QUOTE(magika @ Sep 15 2017, 02:08 PM) Did a placement at Bank Muamalat. Purchased Banker Cheque from RHB for FD placement. Firstly, each cert must have value above 100k only entitle for 4.3%. Have some problem with counter staff who insist placing FD with dual name , Banker Cheque also must have dual name No such thing and no noise in my Muamalat branch, Magic.I submitted single name banker's checks to Muamalat for many times, and I was allowed to get joint name FDs with my mother. Yes, got FD cert and FD effective date on the same day. I found out the cheapest banker's check should be from Am Bank: RM 2.80 |

QUOTE(cklimm @ Sep 15 2017, 03:28 PM) Mr. Kim, sorry, I was talking about to use money to buy banker's check, not matured FD converts to banker's check. Banks can offer RM 0.68 for a banker's check to convert from matured FD: (1) OCBC (sure) (2) Affin (sure) (3) UOB (not so sure) (4) MBSB (free, but cannot exceed RM 50K limit per banker's check, check cannot payable to 3rd party, must pay to FD depositor) (5) HLB priority (Mr. Kim said) Banks will charge RM 5.30 or more for a banker's check to convert from matured FD: (1) RHB This post has been edited by BoomChaCha: Sep 15 2017, 03:42 PM |

QUOTE(smallyfry @ Oct 18 2017, 11:06 PM) I have 100k extra cash, and wanting to buy a new car. Should I put the 100k cash into a bank to earn 4% interest and take a 100k loan for 9 years with 3.5% interest for a new car? Always buy car with cash.Or i should use the cash to buy the car directly. Car loan interest 3.5% actually is 3.5% x 1.8 = 6.3% effective rate. Bank is not stupid, it is impossible bank FD rate is higher than car loan rate. The smart way is to buy a new car less than RM 60K, put the rest of RM 40K+ to FD. QUOTE(hurtedheart @ Oct 19 2017, 07:40 PM) Received a call today from hong Leong bank saying they are offering 4.88% p.a for 6 months for their branch opening at Damansara City on 3/11/2017 (Friday). Accordingly, the offer is valid at that branch only. Asked if it is a pure FD, answer is yes though it sounds good to be true. Minimum 10k must be fresh fund. Interest paid upon maturity, not monthly. Called up the same number (03-2777 1778) to confirm the rate again but the CS (different person from that who called me, didn't take her name down) was unsure. Anyway, for folks who are interested, perhaps you may try to call prior to visit / drop by on that day. QUOTE(lowya @ Oct 20 2017, 09:55 AM) Called up the number but the rate is not announced yet. I just called 03-2777 1778, but the person who answered my call did not know about this 4.88% at all, even after he asked somebody else in his office..https://www.hlb.com.my/en/personal-banking/...ning-promo.html Other Hong Leong branches now 4.2% promo for 10 months. Any better deal out there? QUOTE(cherroy @ Oct 20 2017, 10:21 AM) Please be reminded, the promo has one condition that 10K needs to be earmarked in CASA to be eligible. About 10K needs to be earmarked in CASA to be eligible, are you talking about Hong Leong Bank Damansara City's 4.88%? or 4.2% FD promo?Edited (earmarked for 2 months) |

QUOTE(kenny79 @ Jan 30 2018, 01:02 PM) Am Bank told me yesterday, minimum FD amount RM 50K can get 4.3% for 1 year. But I forgot to ask is this must be a new fund or not? Why didn't you go for Hong Leong? 4.3% for 1 year QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Jan 30 2018, 11:51 AM) If you put FD now @ 4.3%, you will get about the same effective yield compare to you wait 2 weeks time and put FD @ 4.5%. Provided that you can secure a 4.5% rate in 2 weeks time. Anything longer than 2 weeks time, your effective return will be lower than 4.3% FD placed today. Taiko So time is money, we cannot wait. QUOTE(msa9696 @ Mar 22 2018, 10:37 PM) My first experience with AmBank, I've already given up totally and will never bank with them in future. I took Uber all the way to Menara Ambank at KLCC after calling them to confirm the 4.4%. The best part is, they were so good at "recognizing" their staff voice within seconds and told me it was not their staff (all my conversation was recorded, so I proved to them) I spoke to both Asst Branch Manager (Irene) and Branch Manager (he said he's Lay, refused to reveal full name). Both were adamant that I was creating story (as I told them my friend got 4.4%). Went to Alliance Bank, got 4.38%. Not without issues though, waited for 30 min, reached my turn, then told me PIC not around (don't know go where MIA). After that keep calling PIC, waiting some time he came back. Then cannot find the relevant forms, keep finding here and there. I really wonder what's wrong with banks employees nowadays, if they don't want business don't do promotion This post has been edited by BoomChaCha: Mar 24 2018, 12:13 AM |

QUOTE(Deal Hunter @ Mar 28 2018, 12:02 AM) Did any of you guys noticed the Bank Islam TDT-i GO 7% promo is effective from 8 February 2018 in the Terms and Conditions. Makes one wonder how much earlier profit one can miss by depending on websites, brochures, or not believing or being biased, or ignoring the First Principle about FD promos. I am thinking to open one saving account in Bank Islam first, then Rentas to this saving account Bank Islam has always been rather interesting in cooking up various promos and packages which need some explaining, but once in a while can mention when its straight FD product is reasonably competitive. The 4.65% is of course just obtained by adding up all the quarter rates and dividing by 8 (37.2/8) for a rough estimate of the Effective Rate. For 1st year, 16.4/4=4.1% and 2nd year 20.8/4=5.2% roughly. This is a very simple step-up FD, and clause 5.5 means you really need a casa for the quarterly profits to be creditted/paid. (not add to principal). No need to get excited with words like rollover. The clauses that should get you steamed or excited is under Premature Withdrawals 5.3 i and 5.3 ii. It has been some time, so whether there are any changes/improvement on operational issues on cheque clearance time and the issue of bank cheque versus transfers may have to be revisited and revised. so that can get FD effective on the same day. QUOTE(nbi @ Mar 28 2018, 10:27 AM) 4.65% is for 2 years. But not sure it is a smart choice to place 4.65% for 2 years?? Do not forget the US Fed is going to increase interest rate again soon.. Just called Bank Islam, I got these answers like below:
- FD will effective on the same day after submit the check. - Need to open a saving account for Bank Islam to deposit interest every 3 months. - Rate is 4.65% (step-up interest) for 2 years tenures and no nego regardless of the big amount, but minimum FD deposit is RM 50K - Bank Islam has PIDM protection Note: But when I called to another Bank Islam branch to double confirm, they said FD can only effective after the check clearance..? Now do not know which branch is correct? This post has been edited by BoomChaCha: Apr 11 2018, 02:00 PM |
