BNM G'nor said it is treading cautiously as it aims to avoid overshooting or undershooting on its delivery of the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) in its next monetary policy meeting. Not too high not too low I take it to mean no change in 3 May meet.

Many banks taking advantage of current bearish sentiment to lower FD rates even believing that US Fed will start to stop raising rates and gradually reduce them. But bear in mind inflation in the US is even going to get worse with the oil producing countries cutting output and if US priority is to battle inflation over recession, high rates may be very sticky. So imho the story is far from over.

For sure no hikes until after election. After Election, maybe US start to pause or reduce rates ..so best guess is either stagnant or reduce.

I find it difficult to predict Fed's next course of action simply bcos what they have done in the past year has been ridiculous. Only thing I am certain is that Powell and Yellen are more likely to get things wrong than right. They may now say recession is not expected and will continue on their quest of rate hikes.

Typically when OPR rises by 25 pts FD will rise on average by 5 pts. When they do this next week I will divert funds into ASM

Yup
Better split the FD for different tenure

Banks playing some kind of games with us...

Was expecting better rate with OPR hike...
But hell No.... It's like stagnant only... Very minimal increase....  Looks like banks flush with cash... Don't need any FD promo to get more money from the customer....
*
When OPR was 2.75% at start of 2023, 3M KLIBOR was 3.68%. When OPR was increased to 3%, 3M KLIBOR is at 3.55%. So we have the situation where KLIBOR does not increase even when OPR has increased. I can only explain it by banks having increased liquidity generally.

Weakening currency is due to lack of demand for the currency, no matter how much you lift the FD rate, it will not help much to strengthen the currency. So why ringgit is weak you have to ask yourself. I think it is a confidence issue, investors do not trust.....

Is there a reason why banks are cutting down the FD rate after the last OPR hike?

Banks were offering > 4% FD rate before OPR hike, but after OPR hike, the rates are now below < 4%.

What's going on? Banks no longer need cash since they are getting more money from the loans after the OPR hike?
*
OPR hike did not make banks increase FD rates. Cannot tell you the reason but interbank rates have fallen before opr hike from 3.62% 1 April 23 to 3.46% 25 May 23 indicating most banks have money to lend at lower rates of interest. Maybe recession is coming....

Just an update: transaction already >24 hrs, 3 calls and same answer - no update on progress from relevant team. This is one of the reasons for our weak currency

trying to open bank islam acc online, the minimum deposit via FPX shown as failed but money deducted, call to call centre, said acc open, but, money not credited, what's a bad experience.
*
Similar experience when trying to place iFD with MBB. Funds deducted but money missing. This is the fault of the FPX system which is operated by a company called Paynet owned by BNM and commercial banks in Malaysia. Do you notice that when you make an FPX payment to shopee or lazada, the transaction confirmation will always say failed fpx but later shopee /lazada will confirm it is ok as they will inform seller to ship or sned you an email confirmation? Evidently this FPX system is unable to cope with high internet traffic. We should all boycott FPX payments until these buggers wake up!

so, very obvious is FPX issue, i.e. Paynet...

I also walk in to BI today and do cash deposit for the minimum deposit b4 i can do Duitnow transfer from other bank to BI... n luckily the money hanging is just RM20 for BSA. I choose passbook instead of debit card, FD placement done within 30 min, quite fast.
*
I think the problem is caused by high internet traffic for my case. It may give rise to an uncompleted FPX transaction. So in a nutshell FPX can be problematic my god if yr bank is MBB pray very hard. My missing funds finally get refunded and I thank paynet (fpx operator) people who resolved the issue. My take from this? Never ever participate in an fpx promo with harimau. I mean never again.

Hi bro, I was having the same issue when placing FD with MBB through Fpx. My money now still hanging nowhere. Already 3rd day reported to them but still no news so far. Should I contact paynet directly to solve this issue?
*
Send them an email (you can get it online when you google paynet) I don't want to advertise here. If they are willing to help definitely better than harimau. Harimau promise to reply but never all bs

luckily not harimau, n the BI staff did asked me which bank is it, seem like he know they have issue with certain bank... n he is aware of this FPX issue is common issue when i tell him my fund deducted, i reported to both sender and receiver bank, so, just wait them to reply, luckily it is just RM20, if RM20k, i will jump at them... luckily i hold my horse when typing the amount for the FPX transfer as I am not sure how BI treat as Fresh Fund.

the branch told me that as long as within 14 days, then, still consider as fresh fund to them...

Bro my missing fpx amount was $30k mad.gif
