Didn't the new budget ask TM to do this? I think every TM subscriber will get free upgrade. If not, they are going against Najib's orders.

Looks like the speed upgrade will only happen from April 2017 onwards https://www.tm.com.my/speedupgrade/Pages/as...peedUpgrade.pdf
-edit- Those under contract is not eligible as well... You also need to apply for the damned upgrade. Existing current customers will get the upgrade from January 2017. https://www.tm.com.my/speedupgrade/Pages/as...Website_Eng.pdf This post has been edited by isr25: Dec 7 2016, 07:23 AM |

from what i heard, the upgrade happens in backend upgrade and is on best effort basis.
meaning, after u got upgraded to 100mbps, if the area cannot support 100mbps, you're still stucked at 50mbps or any speed serving your area. same goes to congested areas. after upgraded to 50mbps, but the area still congested with average speed of 20mbps+, you're stucked with that. the speed and actual experience is NOT GUARANTEED. they only guarantee upgrade from their side, not premise side. |

Just wondering are unifi still relevant to non-business user? Coz other telco can give better offer with low commitment. e.g: Digi, Webe

This free upgrade is not just for this new promo,it is open to all existing UniFi customer from day 1 too as long they are
-registered before 31st Dec 2016 -not receiving any free upgrade before within this year (pay the same price but increase speed) -is subscribed to VIP 5/10/20 or UniFi 30/50 (whatever the variants) -the area can support the new upgrade speed -not under special scheme when buying a new home with UniFi ready -not a business customer -no contract refresh -existing UniFi 50 to 100 only may or may not need to change their CPE (BTU and RG) with no charges. -no retail price change for 2017 for newcomers. So they will have a list of eligible customers and these customers will be contacted in stages if interested or not in proceeding with the free upgrade. You will be contacted via email, telephone or SMS. 5 to 10 10 to 30 20,30 to 50 50 to 100 100 - unchanged. QUOTE(MR_alien @ Dec 7 2016, 09:02 AM) looks like when TM is moving to UNIFI, they're not very long sighted at all well i dont think TM even projected that normal subscriber even requires 100mbps, but things changes, the neighbor country have surpassed the 1gbps barrier.invest in cheap tech and material which later will occur even higher cost to upgrade If someone noticed, thailand also had similar issue as us, ftth package are limited to 200mbps, but at least they differentiate between vdsl and ftth package, not combining together like what TM does. However like us, people are preferring to have cheaper package instead of highest speed package, but TM love to do the other way around, by making the cheapest package rm179, you want cheaper, get something like webe. QUOTE(cybpsych @ Dec 7 2016, 08:50 AM) from what i heard, the upgrade happens in backend upgrade and is on best effort basis. Punde vavi la camni 😫meaning, after u got upgraded to 100mbps, if the area cannot support 100mbps, you're still stucked at 50mbps or any speed serving your area. same goes to congested areas. after upgraded to 50mbps, but the area still congested with average speed of 20mbps+, you're stucked with that. the speed and actual experience is NOT GUARANTEED. they only guarantee upgrade from their side, not premise side. |

So they will have a list of eligible customers and these customers will be contacted in stages if interested or not in proceeding with the free upgrade. You will be contacted via email, telephone or SMS. 5 to 10 10 to 30 20,30 to 50 50 to 100 100 - unchanged. Will 4Mbps user have to chances to upgrade any of the unifi package ? I am concerned bout upload speed. Because 4mbps user stuck 0.5mbps for upload.
My place recently covered by TIME Fibre recently. But if I change to TIME Fibre, I would have pay roughly 720MYR extra a year. Since my package is only paying 93.xMYR 4Mbps |

I with most users are fine with the current speeds...what we want are cheaper prices! Instead of rm179 make it rm100. Those r stuck at 8mbps price should be reduced but no way TM will lower what we pay them.

QUOTE(MegaThroned @ Dec 7 2016, 10:02 AM) its quite controversial with the budget2017 as TM not going to reduce the pricing, but instead give upgrade to the current customer. If they reduce the pricing, 8mbps streamyx will have cheaper price@rm140 or pro100 unifi @rm229 and we wouldnt mind if they didnt give upgrade due to price reduction. |

QUOTE(zerorating @ Dec 7 2016, 08:58 AM) not really, 100mbps unifi are pretty much unsupported for high-rise, unless GPON last-mile were used. Even for 50mbps, the technician need to do the testing first, if it failed, customer will be registered to unifi30 advance instead. I'm on a high rise condo, and on VIP20So because of this, not all unifi30 advance user will be free upgrade to 50mbps, this is due to physical limitation. TM promised 50mbps "free" upgrade, but need to topup. Suddenly i remembered /K/ says no way high rise can hit even 50mbps Then i challanged TM, lastly they admit it will be max circa 30 only (still need to pay bangsat...) |

Hahahahaha
My current speed is sufficient for my usage. Can I maintain my broadband speed? § Yes, customers may choose to stay at their current speed, but there will be no reduction or further discount given to their current monthly price. |

For 100mbps if no free upgrade or reduce price, better downgrade quickly to 50mbps now lor. Really nonsense this TM.

QUOTE(wkn @ Dec 7 2016, 09:50 AM) if my place got TIME coverage like your place, i will cancel tmnut & subscribe to TIME straight away. Ya they offered a very good deals. Would be best if 4Mbps have symmetry speed. Haha I think should be enough for me if it exist. QUOTE(zerorating @ Dec 7 2016, 09:54 AM) if your area are supporting unifi, why are you stay with streamyx (unless cost is a big concern), TM not gonna upgrade the legacy infra anyway. Because It cheap package I have on 4Mbps (88). Not much different from unifi 5Mbps last time. Decided to stick to 4Mbps, since then now have the offer from TIME Fibre and heard of free upgrading from TM. If there is a 4Mbps symmetry speed, I would stick to it. But seem situation now, there is no chance for it.if only TM allow 5/10mbps unifi registation with price reduction, it will be no brainer to use unifi instead of comparable streamyx plan. QUOTE(topeng perak @ Dec 7 2016, 09:56 AM) Ya that's the only best choice for now. Was hopping TM give 4Mbps user have symmetry speed.QUOTE(MR_alien @ Dec 7 2016, 10:05 AM) if your area is covered by TIME Becuase it cost 720MYR plus extra a year, I could use it to travel instead haha.what are u still thinking? just go for it their package is way cheaper than UNIFI QUOTE(zerorating @ Dec 7 2016, 10:12 AM) agreed, demand more upload speed, but choose streamyx Haha choosing streamyx is becuase its cheap compare to other offers last time. N almost similar speed with unifi5 , just that without upload speed. Hopping to get 4Mbps symmetry speed with same price. its not TM fault, its the limitation of ADSL technology |

However, the following will criteria are also applicable:
1) The customer must not have been given a free upgrade prior to the Budget 2017 announcement (those upgraded between May – September 2016) 2) Technical and service availability. 3) Customers under UniFi Smart Partnership Package are also not eligible because they are bonded with the current developer’s contract. so it means....whoever got speed upgraded be4 budget can kiss goodbye their hope of getting upgraded again |

They would reduce the price.
When your 30mbps upgrade to 50 mbps, just change the name. The speed still remain same. |

Pretty stupid logic.. 50mbps user gets upgrade to 100mbps while paying RM229 only. Advance Pro 100Mbps users like myself don't get anything, price maintain at RM299. Budget 2017 initiative not just for new customers leh.
Bodoh TM is bodoh. |

I just called TMNet "100", here is the answer I get:
1) VIP 10, VIP 20 is not being offered anymore. Those purchasing VIP10 paid RM199.00 (if subscribe at non promotion period) will be upgraded to 30 Mbps later while the VIP20 subscriber will be upgraded to 50Mbps. 2) Current Mpbs 30 subscriber (like me, paying RM179.00, a promotional upgrade since Oct 2015) will be upgraded to 50 Mbps too later. I am happy with 30 Mbps, and wish to "downgrade" to VIP10 (hope to pay cheaper), sorry, no such option anymore, TMNut said! So, die die, have to pay RM179.00 with 50 Mbps later, which I don't need so fast, 30 is super good alredy. That's Msia, consumer kena squeezed left right centre. |

QUOTE(youngy @ Dec 7 2016, 02:01 PM) I got my modem replaced by TM cuz it was already dead but not router. Modem is not the issue.Been using 30mbps for almost a year without problem until now... average I can get above 20mbps. Now it's really unstable... You go and look around broadband forum section, you'll realize that stock router really dated with all sorts of limitation. Average 20Mbps is still under utilize of your Unifi30. A better router could give you a stable 30Mbps. 2 friends of mine keep complaining Unifi sucks, lag, unstable wifi, tipu etc.... Once I brought them to Digital Mall to buy a better router, there have not been a single dissatisfaction voice then. This post has been edited by Yluxion: Dec 7 2016, 02:23 PM |

Your house cabling and their existing supplied router may not support higher speeds, especially the orange colour one.

Can we not only have 2 boxes (modem + router and hypp tv)? To watch HyppTV, you'll need all 3 of the boxes. If you're only using the internet, you can switch off the HyppTV box. |

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Dec 7 2016, 07:50 AM) from what i heard, the upgrade happens in backend upgrade and is on best effort basis. this one is LPPL.. cakap upgraded bandwidth but still on Best Effort Basis.. memang no reliability on the upgrade.meaning, after u got upgraded to 100mbps, if the area cannot support 100mbps, you're still stucked at 50mbps or any speed serving your area. same goes to congested areas. after upgraded to 50mbps, but the area still congested with average speed of 20mbps+, you're stucked with that. the speed and actual experience is NOT GUARANTEED. they only guarantee upgrade from their side, not premise side. |

For you all who are confused about the T&C, or still wondering whether you are eligible for the upgrade or not, don't worry.
If you are eligible for the free upgrade, TM will send you a message mentioning the term "Thank You Surprises". Some received email, some received SMS. Either one. As for me, I received the message via SMS. |

QUOTE(zerorating @ Dec 7 2016, 09:46 AM) here. Thanks a lot~![]() https://www.tm.com.my/speedupgrade/Pages/as...Website_Eng.pdf so far we only know that unifi advance 30 will have speed upgrade to 50mbps, while advance 50 will have speed upgrade to 100mbps. we could only speculate that the other streamyx/unifi package will be upgrade as per below: streamyx: 384kbps -> 512kbps 512kbps -> 1mbit 1mbit -> 2mbit (or webe if the infra doesnt allow) 2 mbps -> 4mbps (or webe if the infra doesnt allow) 4mbps -> 8mbps 8mbps -> no upgrade (unless unifi are supported, maybe unifi 30 advance plan) unifi: 5mbps (vip5) -> 10mbps (vip10) 10mbps(vip10) -> 30mbps (unifi30 advanced) |

AFAIK, the users who benefited the most from this free upgrade are those who subscribed to VIP 10 & VIP 20 because VIP 10 -> Unifi 30 and VIP 20 -> Unifi 50. That's not double the speed anymore. It's considered as "tripple" the speed. So let say I pyaing 179.15 (169 before GST) for VIP 10 now, the free upgrade means I pay the same or I will have to pay Advance 30 price? |

Then I better wait and see somemore... coz the upgrade page now showing that I need to pay 179, which is the same price they charging for the Advance 30 new users I think. Not exactly "free" when there is extra rm10 not include GST |

Internet is too fast these days, not many of us use >10mbps to maximum anyway. Might as well stick to lowest package. however I'll pay good for having my ping time shave into less than half. Connect to US Europe still 200-300ms. Need <50ms to those location This post has been edited by Boldnut: Dec 7 2016, 06:10 PM |

T&C = Offer apply to those who subscribe from 1st to 31st Dec 2016 only FAQ = Offer apply to those who subscribe before 31st Dec 206 Obviously I had mine done this year before Dec so need to know if I am eligible or not. Plus I'm paying RM200++ now. My application was given this rate simply because the RM179 promo has ended. Wonder if I'm gonna get the RM179 rate or stuck at RM200++ rate? If stuck, I'm very sad. |

I upgraded my Unifi (and renewed my contract for another 2 years as well, which they didn't tell me beforehand) on January this year and really hope to be eligible for this upcoming free speed upgrade.
Well, couple of days ago I received a call from TM offering me the 50mbps package for RM229 per month (RM20 less than the actual price). Politely declined the offer as I'm already cool with paying RM179 for my current 30mbps package. |

I just realised I got upgraded free from VIP5 to VIP10. So if I go for new contract this month to Unifi Adv 30, I'll get upgraded to 50mbps still considering its a new contract yes?
149 with 10mbps VS 179 with 50mbps |

Let me put it this way after reading the F@Q
This FREE upgrade is not just for this current running promo,it is open to all EXISTING UniFi customer from day 1 too as long they are -registered before 31st Dec 2016 -not receiving any FREE upgrade before within this year 2016 (pay the SAME previous price but increase speed) -is subscribed to VIP 5/10/20 or UniFi 30/50 (whatever the variants) -your area can support the new upgrade speed -not under special scheme when buying a new home with UniFi ready -not a business customer -no contract refresh is needed -open to out of contract and within contracted customers -existing UniFi 50 to UniFi 100 only; may or may not need to change their CPE (BTU and RG) with no charges. -For VDSL 30Mbps user, you may or may not able to go to 50Mbps speed (50/50 chance) -no retail price change for 2017 for newcomers. So they will have a list of eligible customers and these customers will be contacted in stages if interested or not in proceeding with the free upgrade. You will be contacted via email, telephone or SMS. 5 to 10 10 to 30 20,30 to 50 50 to 100 100 - unchanged. So for a new customer who subscribed after 31 Dec 2016,you will be paying retail price for RM199 -UniFi 30 RM249 - UniFi 50 RM329 - UniFi 100 *Excluding discount and GST if any. Currently, not all customers are enjoying the same price under same speed. There will be the scenario where your new upgrade package is cheaper ,same price or expensive than your previous one.So we don't know how TM will tackle these. Will our current HyppTV Pack and discount will be carry over ? Any customer who got a call to upgrade mostly by agents, that one is not the FREE upgrade if you need to pay more. Example:You are paying RM179 for UniFi 30,got a call to upgrade to UniFi 50 for RM219. If you proceed before 31st Dec 2016,next year you will be upgraded again for free to 100Mbps for RM219. If you don't proceeed, next year you will be upgraded for free to 50Mbps for RM179. This post has been edited by Xefron: Dec 8 2016, 08:43 AM |

QUOTE(narf03 @ Dec 8 2016, 02:20 PM) Upload speed is 50mbps. Not sure about the public IP thing.I just lodged complaint with them seeing how they excluded us Pro plan subscribers from the year-end speed upgrade promo. Apparently being the higher-paying customer to TM means nothing to them as we are expected to continue paying RM320 for 100mbps while new subs upgraded from 50mbps to 100mbps pay only RM229. Stupid TM decision makers. |

QUOTE(narf03 @ Dec 8 2016, 03:31 PM) On the contrary, I think they would. I requested the switch when I was with Maxis fiber but I dealt with a TM technician. Not sure if that's because I was a Maxis subscriber or not. |

QUOTE(zerorating @ Dec 7 2016, 09:54 AM) if your area are supporting unifi, why are you stay with streamyx (unless cost is a big concern), TM not gonna upgrade the legacy infra anyway. My housing area got unifi, but I'm stuck with streamyx 1mbps since 2010. Never get free upgrade also. if only TM allow 5/10mbps unifi registation with price reduction, it will be no brainer to use unifi instead of comparable streamyx plan. I went to TM point. TM told me no available port for my house. So i either have to wait for TM to upgrade their infra, which is quite improbable;.or wait for one of my neighbours to cancel their unifi subscription, so that i can take their port, which also is improbable because it's not like there's any other infra available other than unifi. The number of houses in my housing area never change in almost 30 yrs. I can't brain how TM can put unifi ports less than the number of the house on my street. |

Unifi upload speed is pretty average so far..
