QUOTE(mrjgx @ Feb 3 2012, 06:41 AM)
hi guys..
last nite I went for my 1st ride at the hilly Bkt Tunku...not too steep and a very short ride..only 8km cos it's already late at night..btw i notice that my gear doesnt engage smoothly..how do one normally shift? long press of the shifter or quick burst tapping of the shifter? Mine is shimano 105. thx in advance.

plus I notice on the website my bike's stem is from controltech (carbon) mine is merida pro stem (not sure carbon or not)...i only managed to check it after bought that bike..is it packaged such way for malaysian market?
*
Bukit Tunku not very step.. well at least the route I ran during multipurpose run.

Hmm usually i shift by clicking, one by one.. if u hold i think it drops a few gears at the sametime.

Is normal to package carbon folk with other material for the rest of the frame. Mine is the same, in fact applicable for most lower end bike too

when your gear cannot switch smoothly, were you trying to shift to a lower gear when you're going up a slope and applying heavy pressure on your pedals? if so then its a normal thing for this to happen (as in problems switching to a lower gear when you're pumping heavily on the pedals). ease up on the pedals before you switch your gears, especially when switching to a lower gear. less stress on your gears too that way
*
pause, switch, pedal and feel repeat if necessary.. hmm that's what I do.. but sometimes just forgot and thus the huge clank sound when your pedal hard during gear shift

Try deep heat or counterpain? cheap alternative although a little (intense) burning sensation when applies..

Oh ya.. how often you need to pump your tire? I just realise how am I going to pump 120Psi over petrol station..

Do I really have to buy expensive pump with pressure meter? (RM190).. How do you know if your pressure is sufficient?

thx butthead for the recommendation.
May I know how much is the price you are getting for that helmet? I have one for sale..got it free with the bike but too bad the size is not fitting my head..it's too big (size M/L). It's brand new and never used before so if anyone interested just let me know ya..willing to sell cheaper than shop..already got myself a MET helmet.

Well this is something that i'm looking for..easy to grab at guardians and pharmacies..will lookout for it today..thx bro!

The helm I bought cost RM105, selling like RM80 is a very fair price

how second hand is that?? red or white one? that is almost half the price...
they laugh at you from the inside though... just buy a pink jersey from the giro italia as well..

who wants to laugh at the maglia rosa...

stick some breast cancer awareness campaign on it as a safeguard...
*
I almost wanna buy a pink jersey to match haha

pink is in nowadays.. just think of riding for breast cancer awareness... you feel better that way...
that's interesting... does it hold up well on long rides, not disappear too fast?
how's deep hit gonna help.. feels like you are setting it on fire even before it is on fire...

you will need a presta-schrader adapter to pump at the petrol stations.. also you have to go an research a bit which station allows you to pump beyond 100psi... not a lot and usually it won't be petronas stations... this you have to know for the stations around your area...

for floor pumps.. there are some few cheap ones... if you don't need a gauge and prefer to go by feel.. then it is cheaper... if you need a gauge and isn't picky about how fast or the volume it pumps...

i think there is a nice one called topeak joeblow sport II

http://topeak.com/products/Pumps/JoeBlowSport

can't remember if i saw it at rodalink for RM160 or RM130...looks sturdy except for a few plasticky bits...
*
Looks like the pump is gonna be costly ... aiks..
Cycling is never cheap business

the petrol station pump too fast i think, it always overshoot to 120/130 from 60Psi (bt/in^2).. It's really scary that ur tire expand so fast... I think I am gonna buy a pump instead.. too scary to pump at the station..

Btw, new petronas air pump with analogue display (digital button) can go up to 160PSI.. the car owner beside me was like, WTF 100+ psi..

Hei Guy, I know this question might be asked thousand times before, but hopefully some of your pro can help me with your value advise.

Recently my friend asking me to get a bike to ride with him, as a man that didn't do sport for many years and unhealthy lifestyle with very heavy weight body aka fat >90kg.

I also feel that I can't continue to live this way, it's time to do some sport.

Now I have a problem, as a beginner, I dun know which kind of bike to start with. My friend suggesting me to get a road bike which is more light and can go faster. But I thought Hybrid bike will be a better choice for begginer, and some more ppl like me, with less stamina better dun start hardcore with roadbike. My friend keep on telling me that I will regret later if I get a hybrid bike, Coz most of the time we will ride on tar road, not going for trail.

I did some research online to compare hybrid and road bike, seem like hybrid is more comfy type of bike compare to road bike that need to lean forward and sprint.

Now I'm really confuse, which I should go with, hybrid or road? I dun wan to let this question kill off my spirit to start ridding. Hope the experienced pro here can spend a.little precious time to do me a small favor.

I'm 100kg, I rode a road bike because i will be doing road.. Stamina can be trained.. No big deal, starting on bike is easier than running..

Things that road bike offer = speed
and basically i need it to do my tri-event..

It really comes downs to your purpose,

More trail / mountains = MTB
Road only = road

Mixed = hybric? I am not sure what is a hybric bike actually.. was considering it before I set my mind on road

Woohoo! check out my T-shirt smile.gif

[attachmentid=2674258]

Ironic thing is that the first time I wore this shirt, my chain's quick release link broke 2/3 of the way into a 65km ride. And had to call a buddy for a rescue car to pick me up sad.gif

nice shirt, i would wear that when I run..
Cycling sucks when I am cycling xD

i posted a couple post or page before this... soft saddle on the contrary doesn't mean a comfortable saddle... it lets your seat bones dig into the soft padding and eventually hit the saddle shell which is hard (just a theory of mine)..

on biomechanics point of view... it seems to say that soft saddles actually wears you down (tired) faster...

i can't comment much on your condition since it sounds a bit too extreme that less than an hour or so in the saddle can cause so much pain... you can try and hop onto a friends bike when you have recovered and see if it happens on another bike / saddle?
*
I always wish that my saddle is a little behind... and when I use the drop bar, I realise I am not getting really low... like those racer would do... I am starting to be able to use the drop bar now although gear shift still a little far reach from my finger..

any riding group I can join tomorrow? I don't feel like training run as I have climbathon on Sunday.. Not too far, hopefully within 2 hours because I don't have cycling shorts

@minizian
I am sad to hear that, hope that falls would not deterrent you from your future ride.. I never thought that as 40km/h it can do so much damage.. I was having fun just now going a short section of decent.. Around 55km.. Really need to be careful on this...

But for the wobble thingy.. if your bike is not well adjusted it can occurs even and low speed. I tried with my old bike, when I let go both my hand it would wobble after when through humps.. but if descending more than 60km/h and it happens I really won't know what to do man..

My tire ETRTO is 23x622hmm from chart it seems to be 700 x 23C

Can i know what does 700 means, 23C means?

It seems it's a 26" tire convert into 66.04cm, with formula 3.142 * 66.04 = 207.35cm
but from chart it's 210cm..

lol sounds really confusing.. Have a easy ride today in Hulu Langat today.. On the way back meet a bunch of national junior cyclist, draft along them so fun, easily average 30+ km/h but after uphills cannot keep up..
