Haha, thanks. Actually it's for my office. I have tried the mx brown and mx speed, now want to try mx blue, but want to save. Oh well, guess cherry's aren't cheap.

How about Razer Green? I know it's not cheap. RM300++.
*
it's better to bring your mx speed or brown to office; blue is noisy.

the better option for office use is silent red/black imo.

if u do really type a hell lot, blue will annoy ppl around u.
unless u have own office/room, then it is ok.
but if the ppl around u wont care much, blue is really reccomended compare to others.
ive used blue at office b4 but i dont type much. just little2 clicks. but once i start making letters, sure got some eyes watching me. ha ha
but heck, i use blue, brown, red, i still love typing on it compare to membrane.

and back to ur question, yes, cherry aint cheap. gateron is oke. others i never use so i cant really give opinion.
but as for blues, i only trust cherries. ive use a gateron blues which lost its clicks after +- 1year.
gateron linears are oke, smoother than cherries they said. gateron brown is oke, but i dunno, i prefer cherry brown than gat brown.

razer green hor, i ban razer since b4 i buy my 1st keyboard. ha ha
their marketing is good, but if u really dig deep, ull found many bad reviews as well.
so i dont recommend them well.
+ the non standard bottom row which makes it hard to change caps.

best bet is to fork out some money for iKBC C87/C104. which got no led but PBT kikaps. but it is well above ur budget. (instead of getting razer green for RM300+)
or find a used board for rm200-rm250. CM old models, used ducky maybe. i got 3 used boards, and all is perfectly functioning and good to type on still.

Thanks guys. Yeah, i have a room but the door is always opened. Am using ducky 2108 brown in my office now. After trying mkb, i never go back to membrane.

How about cherry mx board 2.0 or 3.0? Is it good?

yep, after using mkb, im not going back to membrane. *high five* rclxm9.gif

cherry mxboard 2.0 wise, is oke. but the keycaps are low-profile + the caps lock key stem is off center. so cant use normal caps lock from cheap/normal(eg: tai hao) keyset u buy. not sure if it fits the stepped caps lock too.
cherry mxboard 3.0, me dunno.

there are addon key cap sets from tai-hao that include cherry board's capslock key cap. however in general it's true that the options are relatively limited.

your budget might not be quite enough for a custom board. however you can get a good prebuilt from filco and ikbc.

it really depends on the item. sometimes it's more expensive to get it from taobao, especially very rare stuff.

I was just get a new Cherry MX-Board 3.0 today. This keyboard is looks ordinary just like a standard office keyboard. Nothing much special on its designing but the built quality is really best. Every keys that I press is feeling very solid. It is a low profile key caps keyboard. I was bought this keyboard for using in office. I choose red switch because I don't like the noisy blue switch. Every time I type the blue switch keyboard, whole office can hear the annoying noisy sound. That's why I buy this keyboard to replace the cheap AULA SI-886 chinese blue switch mechanical keyboard.

Red switch is just feels the same like the yellow switch of my Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2. It is very light to press, and silent too. The only different is just between the low profile key caps compare to my Razer high-profile key caps.

Just how to say the different, both yellow and red switches are 45g pressure. Very light, lighter than blue switch. Some people like blue switch but for me was regretted to buy the blue switch keyboard. The keys are heavier than red or yellow switch for Razer blackwidow. If you never tried red switch, you better try it now. Very light and comfortable.

red and blue both is actually 45g.
the tactile however makes blue feels heavier.

the rich variety of choices from cherry mx switches and its clones is meant for exactly this: fulfilling individual taste and expectations. yes i like linear switches the most, but still i collect different switches for fun.

red is not that quiet. silent red is. with silent red you don't need o-rings or any other silencing addons. all are well taken care of.

edit:

some notes about gk64 - finally lubed all stabilizers on gk64. seriously they're not impressive at stock, but now they're what i'm talking about biggrin.gif they're china-made cherry stabilizers, plate-mounted type, and i haven't clipped them yet. with lube, it's getting nicer. even space bar is making way less noise now. also, lubing linear switches is good in general. if possible just take your time to lube them all. (well, at least the ones that you type most) you will not regret it.

tearing down gk64 is easy. take out caps, switches, unscrew pcb + top plate from top; lift the right side of pcb to separate it from bottom case (beware of the usb-type-c port on the left. the bottom case is the actual weight contributor; really heavy); unscrew pcb from top plate; take off the stabs plate-mounted style. assembly is equally easy.

once silent switches are here, including gateron silent black (note: the current stock of gateron silent red/black is not smd-led compatible; the smd-led compatible ones are still not out yet), i will replace the ones for all stabs, making it even more quiet. i still like red for normal typing and gaming.

for those who wish to try out different switches, but don't wanna get and sell boards with different switches like nobody's business, get gk64. it's a 60% with arrow keys. you spend less on switches also, because it's only 64 keys.
