super gravity sidewalls is tougher/thicker, hence the weight...and mostly used for DH...if you too strong, u can try it pedaling trail bikes.. rclxms.gif

Hi Everyone..
It's more than decades ago since I last ride a MTB (during my school day). I want to give MTB a try as a sport/hobby.
Plan to get a bike to cycle around on road or maybe go up the tok kun hill as below once I'm more familiar with the bike.

https://pegasuskl.wordpress.com/2009/11/05/...ertajam-penang/

Since I'm new, I set my budget around 1-3+k. I did survey few shop and below are some of the recommendation.

polygon siskiu 29er (RM2.8k)
http://www.polygonbikes.com/my/bikes/descr...2017-siskiu29-6

Tropix Mig 17 (RM2.9k)
http://tropixbikemalaysia.com/mig17.html

My fren said the spec for Mig17 is better as it's using XT.

Hope the sifu here can give me some guidance on this. At the same time, I'm open to other suggestions. I'm looking towards value for money specs instead of brand.

I don't mind for 2nd hand bike if available.
Thanks you very much.

I'm 166cm...
Both shop said my height OK to go for 27.5" or 29". with S frame.
I did my research on 26, 27.5 n 29.. seem like 29 are catching up now...

Spec wise.. Which bike is better?
Sorry for being noob.. as I don't really get the diff btw the diff type of fork, derailleur, etc.

Spec wise (without considering the brand), does tropix is more value for money?
Any input are much appreciated. Thanks.

don't people consider these criteria when making a purchase?
warranty
spare parts
dealer network
quality control
etc

other than the groupset/components on the bike?

Do you actually know what is the difference between deore and xt? Have you tried either before?

The real question is actually will this be your last bike? Both bikes are ok introductory bikes but with limited upgrade potential. If you really like mtb, you will eventually get a better bike. That usually means a better frame or complete bike altogether.

"value for money" is relative.

i know a number of khs owners, buy bikes which normally we would consider "value for money". retailed lower than other major brands, good discounts, great spec. less than 3 months of use, their bikes got major problem. everytime kayuh, got major clunking noise every few seconds. turned out, freehub body wobbled badly. each bike same problem. asked shop, shop said not covered under warranty. freehub cheapo, cannot be removed and replaced. so only solution, buy new hub or wheelset.

a mechanic friend told me, khs bikes good value in terms of groupsets packaged with their bikes. but other components buyers like u usually overlook, they put on cheapo parts. and the frame oso heavy. pipu see groupset gooding, terus beli.

so... again, "value for money"?

I'm totally new on this.. My only knowledge is from google.. smile.gif
Once I start to venture into this, then only will I know whether I'll invest more in future.. Or it will just be a leisure past time for me.
