Say rider at condo west of hill, you at east of hill, hit lottery, you got ping, from map you are nearest to point, but to drive there (midde of hill is forest reserve, no road), so one big round you go

today i just received ping 8km away, no hill also, just me opposite way, need do 1 big turn to reach

Grab app only diplays distance to rider. So, anything more than 3km, I ignore.

Uber app displays time taken to reach the rider. So, anything more than 8 minutes, I will ignore. If, however, the surge is really high (more than 1.8x), I might consider 8, 9 or 10 minutes away.

Better to drive when they is an Uber Surge or don't drive? Is it true uber rider this days don't pay Extra for traffic jam?

In my experience, yes. It is only worth it to drive Uber during boost or surge. Other times, the fare is really low. Uber still pay during traffic jam but it is not real time traffic jam. The time is estimated from google maps (which may be wrong). Then the fare is more or less fixed.

uber not being competitive enough to grab is no good to drivers. sigh...

8km for me is okey aslong no traffic jem.
can reach the destination around 6-10min.
