Maybe sony want to clear remain stock only.
Its direct successor xzs & xz1 kill it, not to mention its premium series xzp & rumour coming xz1p.
If sony don't stop half year cycle + 1 year 4 flagships method, this history will happen again.
No point buying latest flagship since it has 50% discount after 1 year.

1.8-1.9k is still acceptable , 1.3k be like for those early adpoter

Probably Sony / distributor want to clean the stock, since Directd is one of the biggest seller, they can offered a very competitive price.
For my opinion, XZ/XZs is a very failed project after Xperia S/SL. Both projects were sharing the same design, probably 98% same thing, except some small hardware/chipset.
The 2% different made no advantage for Sony to sell it at higher price, only able to replace its predecessor. It is just embarrassing.
If i were Sony, i definitely won't allow this happen. I will either keep XZs technology (small motion camera) to next generation. So the XZ1 can sell at RM2899 while outdated XZ can stay at RM2000-2300.
Or i will discontinued the XZ, and totally replaced by XZs. And not to pissed the customers, i will allow all XZ users exchange their phone to XZs for free, or a very minimal cost like RM100~ for transporting/handling fee.
Wasting resources to develop XZs, i rather save the cost, and release some special edition XZ, like more colours of choices. Just like many of us choosing XZ because the special forest blue colour.
But what did Sony do now, is pissing their loyalty customers. Sony (Ericsson) was the top brands, but now not even in top 10 list to compete with some chinese OEM. Sony is not able to compete with other in price and spec. They have a niche market, which mainly loyal customers and supporter who loves Sony unique trademark & technology. But these actions are blowing away this small group of customers too.

Haha, I quite agree with you. I am using xzs now, bought in end of June at rm2577. Actually I don't think xzs worth that price.. But eventually I chose it, haha. At that time xz premium is still rm3399, I can't afford it. So I have no choice, but to take xzs...

1399, i didn't think much and bought it.
I was thinking to buy xzs for my gf, but no point to pay rm1000 for extra 1gb ram + better camera.
Luckily i didn't buy last weekend, if not i really pissed again.

Haha, for me the extra 1gb ram is more future proof.... Camera is not my concern when I buy xzs also. I just like the design and ui of the phone.. Others are boring ..

I'm thinking of getting the XZ. I'm a bit concern on overheating issue reported by some of the reviewer. Is this a real issue or it has been resolved after firmware update?

Also how the is the performance of the GPS for this phone. Thanks

The phone is no overheat issue, but normal heat is there.
When the temperature reach somewhere, the performance will drop, but this happen to every phones, even PC.

If you are looking for performance, stay at android 6.
The stupid lag issue for android 7.1 was fixed at July/Aug patch. But latest Oct patch is worse performance than before, but still in acceptable level.

Sony & Qualcomm have the best gps signal for my opinion. Usually can lock with 15+ satellite + 30~ standby. While other brands usually lock with 7-9 satellite and 20~ standby.

RAM management is more important than RAM for android. (Of course it only apply when the app is smaller than your total RAM, you can't fill 1L water with 0.5L bottle.)
My nexus 10 (2GB ram) flashed with custom 7.1 rom is much stable (not faster) than my XZ. My Z3 (3GB ram) is still stable than my XZ. If you read XDA forum, many custom roms are faster and stable than official rom. Even just debloat + custom kernel will help on official rom.

I am dilemma to unlock my phone now. Just finish the 1 year official warranty last week, but still have 2 years extended warranty. I am giving chance to Sony fix the system on Android 8, probably will release as soon as next 1-3 months.
If no improvement i will just unlock the phone.

I also heard that xz is not so stable compared to other phone , why ya ? I thought Sony has one of the best software ??

Maybe too much memory in locked + RAM management too conservative.

I am suing viper4android for another rooted phone . The sound is amazing !!

i also found that the android system occupies too much of memory (1.1-1.2gb) in my xzs compared to other phones . My another phone 2gb ram just occupies 800-900mb .

haha , not dare to try this on my xzs . Sony phone is expensive .
I only try those sound mod on my another phone . Encountered bootloop few times , i have to say rooting / mooding require patience and suitable for those who are dare . Haha . Even i have old xperia z , i still not dare to try the rooting / mod on it .

Unlock&flashing need a lot of courages, but do not need much of skill lol.
I prefer the old phone which can expoit root, no need to unlock. Anything worse happen, just factory reset and send to warranty. But unlock is a bit more risky, anything bad happen to usb port or screen, it may not able to re-flash back to official rom and send warranty.
But seem like it will never able to do that, after Z5 series. But luckily, XZ is the last phone which has android 6 rom, which still exploit to dirtycow bug, still able to backup TA partition.
Nowadays new phone doesn't really need root. Official rom is good enough for daily usage. But official rom usually is more balanced setting, which limits the performace and the true power of the hardware.

If anything happens to the USB port, just use the micorsd, haha... I am using twrp for my rooted phone, if anything happens, just reflash the rom zip saved on the Microsd

hey peeps, just joined the xz family, as i wanted to buy G6, but then saw at directd price 1399, din think much straigh bought it last night! now i got an issue for the xperia system update ver 41.2A.7.35, no matter how many times i continue, after everything done install, the screen still show there is any system update. what can i do about it?
