just need to wait next year volta
bang
then time to spend on 70 or 80 series
cause amd cant really beat the 1080ti yet
and the price for amd card really insane

not only price, but also power usage.
so they come out an expensive card with high power usage and not better performance card compare to competitor.

damn. imagine the sag
That's why horizontal case is the best. You don't have to worry about heavy graphic card sagging + heavyweight CPU cooler bending your motherboard

Example of horizontal cases are like Cooler Master HAF XB & Thermaltake Core series (Core X5/X9)

dang...

AMD seems to be the underdog on both fronts... while things look good (or at least, okay) for Ryzen, Intel will strike back soon with Gen-8 and 9... Nvidia will do the same with Volta. the delay in Volta will probably just improve it even more.

probably should re-split Radeon from AMD so that they each can concentrate building their own products.

haha ya

Malaysia AMD card now cost more than Nvidia card.
I dunno what distributor think at here, they got strong competitor, they still dare to jack up the price make it cost more than nvidia on same tier while only make it cheaper for US only.

Add a few more and you got yourself a 1080ti. Those prices are too much for something inferior to Nvidia's 1080ti. It all goes down to price to performance.

Bad news.. Looks like vega has powerful mining capability.

Ethereum mine : 43.5MH/s @ 130watt.

it will become miners favorite toys.

AMD = Awesome Mining Device.

It is from some random Reddit post. Look at the hbm temperature though. Pretty sketchy.

I just came back from lyp. Viewnet got 2 units of Sapphire RX Vega 56. I asked price. RM2799

I went the shop next door jayacom. Zotac GTX1080 AMP Extreme is only RM2900 and is much more powerful than RX Vega 56...

AMD pricing this time phailed big time.

Lol ridiculous! Price to performance is what matters at the end of the day and AMD is still catching up with Nvidia.

Pricing high because they have uses in other tasks besides gaming, mining and rendering those cards are really "general purpose compute", with support for open standards and whatnot.
Nvidia too, but AMD in this area is much better.

Miners are especially responsible for the jacked up prices, the finish stocks as soon as they are available.

Some might wonder, why won't AMD just make more cards to satisfy demand, the reason is that they can't depend on the miners for consistency, some "crypto" crash or dramatic increase in difficulty or something could make miners lose interest in those cards overnight.. so if AMD went ahead and made 300,000 units, and all those miners suddenly no longer are seeking AMD cards.. then AMD and its AIB partners will be stuck with huge stocks that will never leave shelves.

Also miners put unrealistic stress on GPUs, have high RMA returns,..etc.

So no, what "phailed" is not AMDs pricing, rather your understanding of supply and demand dynamics in the modern market. AMD doesn't make a single RM extra from all this demand, its the shops (like viewnet) and partners (like gigabyte/Asus) that get the extra cash from the inflated prices, not AMD.

The thing is, I believe a lot of people are like me. I have an R9 290 . I want to upgrade coz I have upgraded to a 1440p monitor and R9 290 cant quite cut it anymore, it is just barely enough to max out Overwatch . Besides that, the Hawaii chipset lack modern HTPC features, cannot decode HEVC 10 bit and no support for VP9 making YouTube 4k60 video almost maxing out my CPU. So logical upgrade path for me inside the red camp should be RX Vega only since RX 480/580 is not consider an upgrade , but a sidegrade. Big improvement on power efficiency, but nothing significant on my FPS. So no point going for me going after those cards.
I don't give a thing about power consumption, so I can accept the RX Vega with the 2x8 pin power connectors but that kind of price/performance really puts me off . True, RX Vega is good for miners but that kind of pricing really pushes gamers off to the green camp because there is no worthwhile upgrade path for Hawaii chip users.

bro, I feel you. But what I'm telling you is you are angry at the wrong party..

If you open youtube and search for "RX vega mining" and read comments you will see a huge percentage are curses.. kinda sad/childish, but shows the resentment, those people will go around youtube in mining vids (which is of no interest to them) and curse left and right to show how frustrated they are that they can't upgrade because miners grab cards in bulk

its not AMD that raises the prices, its the retail shops and partners
Eg viewnet (just example) see high demand for Rx vega, they call asus.. asus reply we only have 2000 gpu cores from AMD, so we can only make 2000 cards.. charge 20% more coz demand much higher than supply, then viewnet will top up a little more too.. then you as customer angry why cant buy my GPU at MSRP that AMD announce..
I already explained in my prev reply why AMD can't risk making more GPU cores.

What made things worse, two days ago someone tweaked their RX Vega 64 to mine ethereum at 0.20mh per watt, this makes vega the most efficient miner even surpassing rx 480 and GTX 1070..
And there's hype of "potentially will be even more efficient with further tweaks" which made the miners more crazy about it.. even those "game packs" AMD tried to pull to deter miners don't seem to work, they are willing to pay the extra
See: http://wccftech.com/amds-rx-vega-64-etheri...-of-power-draw/

No choice but to wait I guess. Personally I'm waiting for Rx Vega Nano smile.gif
