My neighbour has 3 German Shepherds in his house and he is Chinese. Early in the morning can see him brings he dog to garden. smile.gif

Added on October 12, 2007, 10:10 pmIt depends on the quality, I bought it at 2.3k. I have tried to find few breeders but most of the people recommended me Genting, so so...

Ya, it is nice to see 3 German Shepherds together.....Well, when I was in Genting, that guy showed me the female 1st, I was like..."Oh, it's normal size same as Siberian Husky." After that, the male (father of my dog) came out, I was like...."OMG! It's so huge....the fur is thick enough around the neck and looks so aggressive."

I knew that this kind of dog is fierce and huge, although I have a little bit worry for the future, but still it has to be trained to guard the house. He can protect me too. smile.gif

I still love GSD. To me, GSD is always ranking 1st place in my heart. I like GSD's majestic look!

Actually GSD is very gentle, affection and kind towards children and small animals. Unless those people already brain wash and trained it to be a fierce guard dog. I didn't send my GSD for that kind of training, I trained it to be calmed and gentle towards small animals, like cat, puppies and toddlers etc.

Wanted to ask, if we train our GSD to be fierce in order to guard our houses. Would it has the possibility that GSD will bite its owner? Because I have been worrying for this issue.

Depend very much on its gene and how you treat & train your dog.

If you have been abused it (beaten up a lot) then it would be very "angin" and unpredictable temperament. If the dog has rage syndrom genetic then possible it will attack you no matter how well you treat the dog. A good gene dog is very clam in nature and superb temperament and easy to train. The dog also need to be showered with leadership, love and affection then it will learn from its master.

When I was small, my neighbour has a GSD, the dog has been abused by its master (beaten up a lot, never walk the dog, never play with the dog), once it was accidentally out from the house, it would attack anybody. My sister was once attacked by the dog until had 7 stitches. We all pity the dog, the master didn't know how to train the dog kept beaten up the dog (we can hear from just next door).

One more thing to add, how you want to train your dog to guard the house? The guard dog by its nature will guard your house, unless you want to specially train it to attack by your command is different thing all together. To injure an intruder is good enough, unless you want it to kill the intruder, then you have to send it for special training. If you want to train your dog not to take any food from stranger, this kind of training DIY also can.

As for me, GSD's look and size would scare most of the people. I do not wish to land into trouble when my maid accidentally opened the gate and my dog went out to bite people who happened to pass by my house.

Your neighbor should have deserved punishment. mad.gif

Sorry to hear that your sister got bitten by that dog.

I see, special training is that kind of thing, then I shouldn't bring it for that as I am not going to ask him kills people. However, my previous dog (Siberian Husky) wasn't attack or bark anyone who came to my house. Aiks....That's why I am wondering my GSD will be fierce to intruders in order to guard house. Thanks for the information!! biggrin.gif

May be I can try to bring my GSD to obedient school. biggrin.gif

Siberian Husky is not a guard dog at all, sure cannot jaga rumah and protect you.

Rottweiler, Doberman, Boxer, GSD and Mastiff can be good guard dog. But as an owner, you need to know how to control your guard dog as well. By nature when the dog gets angry, sometimes accidentally can snap the owner too, so as the owner you have to know your dog, and tackle it the right way. If your dog is too fierce and you don't know how to control it also will be a big trouble.....

Our family we had reared Doberman, Boxer, Rottweiler, GSD and many more. Last year my eldest sister's Rotti and Boxer fight with my GSD Samsam, my sister and I have to physically pull them apart. Luckily all of them are very docile towards the owner, so not that difficult to pull them apart.

Do you still have your Siberian Husky? When you have more than one dog at home, the tendency of dogs fighting could be quite common, so you have to know how to tackle them.

hi all,

im an owner of 2 GSD. the male is around 4 years+ and his name is Bizzy. the female is around 3 years+ and her name Roxy.

my female GSD is abit on the smaller side but she's a much better guard dog than my male GSD because she's more alert of her surroundings and whats happening around the house etc. but she's not as obedient as my male GSD. need more training on this area.

Bizzy on the other hand is my favourite. he's ok in size, can consider big but not as big as some i've seen. he has gone through obedient training by a police dog trainer and is very obedient and affectionate. he loves to sit or lie really close to me.

i bring both of them out for runs in the evening. Roxy loves to run and really has the stamina to run, but Bizzy on the other hand is abit lazy. i have to drag him while running away from my house but once he realise we're running back towards my house he runs like his life depends on it.

their diet consist of Eukanuba Adult Maintenance Large Breed Formula and Eukanuba healthy extra biscuits as rewards. any GSD owners have other brands to introduce or have any comments on Eukanuba?

will try to upload pics of my dogs soon. i have 2 dobermans prior to these 2 GSD. i just love large breeds smile.gif so nice to have beside you.

I used to feed my GSD SamSam Eukanuba & ProPlan last time. After my dog reach 4 years old, she started to develop skin problem, fur loss & weight loss and soft stool every now & then. Kept on trying many types of remedies, and switch to lamb & rice also didn't help. At last when I let my eldest sister took care of her, my sisters used to homecook for her dogs, SamSam had grew back beautiful fur coat and strong again.

Another point to note is when your dog has become senior, running will no longer good for him. Brisk walking is good enough for him. I didn't know that...I used to take bicycle or motorbike to run my GSD, eventually my GSD's leg limping every time after the run.

thanks for the heads up. i guess when Bizzy hits 6-7 years old then i'll slow down slightly and when he's around 8-9 then its just slow walk for him. i think he's at his prime time now and he's abit over-weight so i need to make him exercise more.

So far both my GSD's dun have any symptoms like u mentioned while on Eukanuba so i guess i shud just stick to it ler.

ahh..yess..nice nice..im lookin forward to own a GSD pup as well...but i think they are way too exp..but lookin for a good breeder is hard as well....

anyway..i think GSD owners should try this test out first...in order to determine the type of temperament :-

http://www.volhard.com/puppy/pat.htm

i think this PAT test is pretty cool

regards..

P/S: to those who are lookin for GSD..do keep us informed...keep this thread updated

Thanks..

any of you experience this before with your GSD or any other breeds where ur dog snap ur fingers after u pat them.

Roxy tends to do this sometimes. like after patting her and when i stop she turns her head and snaps my finger. whenever she does this i'll give her a light slap with a firm NO!

my dalmatian often jumps at my finger after i stroke him on his face and give him some good scratch...

i tried teaching him several times.. he obeys depending on his mood.
If he is in a playful mood, i can expect fingers full of salivas.
