QUOTE(yawhong @ Oct 22 2007, 03:24 AM) i do love GSD. But when think of thier huge size, i really worry they end up eat me and cant make friend with other dog in my house, just like my terrier and other 2 mongrel. I still rmb my terrier go out the door and the 2 mongrel bite him like hell.. sign Actually GSD is very gentle, affection and kind towards children and small animals. Unless those people already brain wash and trained it to be a fierce guard dog. I didn't send my GSD for that kind of training, I trained it to be calmed and gentle towards small animals, like cat, puppies and toddlers etc. |

QUOTE(ladiesfashion @ Oct 22 2007, 02:40 PM) Wanted to ask, if we train our GSD to be fierce in order to guard our houses. Would it has the possibility that GSD will bite its owner? Because I have been worrying for this issue. Depend very much on its gene and how you treat & train your dog.If you have been abused it (beaten up a lot) then it would be very "angin" and unpredictable temperament. If the dog has rage syndrom genetic then possible it will attack you no matter how well you treat the dog. A good gene dog is very clam in nature and superb temperament and easy to train. The dog also need to be showered with leadership, love and affection then it will learn from its master. When I was small, my neighbour has a GSD, the dog has been abused by its master (beaten up a lot, never walk the dog, never play with the dog), once it was accidentally out from the house, it would attack anybody. My sister was once attacked by the dog until had 7 stitches. We all pity the dog, the master didn't know how to train the dog kept beaten up the dog (we can hear from just next door). One more thing to add, how you want to train your dog to guard the house? The guard dog by its nature will guard your house, unless you want to specially train it to attack by your command is different thing all together. To injure an intruder is good enough, unless you want it to kill the intruder, then you have to send it for special training. If you want to train your dog not to take any food from stranger, this kind of training DIY also can. As for me, GSD's look and size would scare most of the people. I do not wish to land into trouble when my maid accidentally opened the gate and my dog went out to bite people who happened to pass by my house. QUOTE(ladiesfashion @ Oct 22 2007, 05:10 PM) Your neighbor should have deserved punishment. Siberian Husky is not a guard dog at all, sure cannot jaga rumah and protect you. Sorry to hear that your sister got bitten by that dog. I see, special training is that kind of thing, then I shouldn't bring it for that as I am not going to ask him kills people. However, my previous dog (Siberian Husky) wasn't attack or bark anyone who came to my house. Aiks....That's why I am wondering my GSD will be fierce to intruders in order to guard house. Thanks for the information!! May be I can try to bring my GSD to obedient school. Rottweiler, Doberman, Boxer, GSD and Mastiff can be good guard dog. But as an owner, you need to know how to control your guard dog as well. By nature when the dog gets angry, sometimes accidentally can snap the owner too, so as the owner you have to know your dog, and tackle it the right way. If your dog is too fierce and you don't know how to control it also will be a big trouble..... Our family we had reared Doberman, Boxer, Rottweiler, GSD and many more. Last year my eldest sister's Rotti and Boxer fight with my GSD Samsam, my sister and I have to physically pull them apart. Luckily all of them are very docile towards the owner, so not that difficult to pull them apart. Do you still have your Siberian Husky? When you have more than one dog at home, the tendency of dogs fighting could be quite common, so you have to know how to tackle them. |

QUOTE(red-queen @ Dec 6 2007, 06:22 PM) hi all, I used to feed my GSD SamSam Eukanuba & ProPlan last time. After my dog reach 4 years old, she started to develop skin problem, fur loss & weight loss and soft stool every now & then. Kept on trying many types of remedies, and switch to lamb & rice also didn't help. At last when I let my eldest sister took care of her, my sisters used to homecook for her dogs, SamSam had grew back beautiful fur coat and strong again.im an owner of 2 GSD. the male is around 4 years+ and his name is Bizzy. the female is around 3 years+ and her name Roxy. my female GSD is abit on the smaller side but she's a much better guard dog than my male GSD because she's more alert of her surroundings and whats happening around the house etc. but she's not as obedient as my male GSD. need more training on this area. Bizzy on the other hand is my favourite. he's ok in size, can consider big but not as big as some i've seen. he has gone through obedient training by a police dog trainer and is very obedient and affectionate. he loves to sit or lie really close to me. i bring both of them out for runs in the evening. Roxy loves to run and really has the stamina to run, but Bizzy on the other hand is abit lazy. i have to drag him while running away from my house but once he realise we're running back towards my house he runs like his life depends on it. their diet consist of Eukanuba Adult Maintenance Large Breed Formula and Eukanuba healthy extra biscuits as rewards. any GSD owners have other brands to introduce or have any comments on Eukanuba? will try to upload pics of my dogs soon. i have 2 dobermans prior to these 2 GSD. i just love large breeds Another point to note is when your dog has become senior, running will no longer good for him. Brisk walking is good enough for him. I didn't know that...I used to take bicycle or motorbike to run my GSD, eventually my GSD's leg limping every time after the run. |

QUOTE(afro_phoebe @ Jan 2 2008, 11:36 AM) Can try puppy.com.my! Actually dogs can be trained without owner's presence. The dog won't listen to owner some times because the smart dog already knew how to manipulate its owner. So..most importantly as the dog owner, you have to demonstrate to your dog (command must be firmed) that you are the Alpha dog, otherwise your pet dog will not respect you.I think they got provide training~! Well, just a question, if the dog is train by the trainer without owner, will the dog listen to the owner later on? |

QUOTE(raist86 @ May 4 2008, 11:26 PM) Hie, i'm interested in getting a german shepherd as a guard dog. Anyone got contacts for breeders? Want to get a pup so that i can start training from beginning. Depending on your budget and what kind of GSD quality (long fur coat or short fur coat, normal colour, white or black colour) you are looking for. There is one in Kajang, one in Klang, and one in Genting. If you're are looking for a pure Germany import, then there are a few guys specialize on this. |

QUOTE(raist86 @ May 5 2008, 01:25 AM) Looking for short haired, normal color and without hereditary diseases. Ten years ago I bought my GSD without cert also cost RM1k already. I don't think you can get any GSD pup at this price now. Unless you don't mind to go to adopt from SPCA or get those cross GSD pup. Then will cost you less than RM1k for sure.Budget is about RM 1k - RM 1.5k. Enough arr? Without MKA cert is usually how much? What would u guys recommend me to get? With or without MKA? Dad doesn't feel like spending so much on a dog... thus, don't have a free reign budget. |

QUOTE(red-queen @ Jan 8 2008, 04:14 PM) my fren just bought a german shepherd puppy from a german guy in jalan gasing. paid RM4k for the puppy, according to him the male and female both imported from germany with certs etc. I bought my GSD last time in somewhere there, near Assunta Hospital. Not sure it's the same guy or not. The guy was not a breeder but a trainer for guard dogs, he lived in one of those bunglow house. When I bought the pup was told MKA registered, after 6-8 months waiting , went back to look for him, he doesn't want to entertain me and told me to check with MKA office, that time the puppy was not implemented microchip, doesn't know how to follow up with MKA, I kept calling him, he avoided me. That was 10 years ago, I bought my puppy for RM1k. Initially he wanted to sell me RM1.2k, I negotiated with him, so I think he purposely withheld the cert after selling me RM1k.yet to see his puppy but does anyone know abt this breeder from jalan gasing? My GSD was medium long coat type, very big size. Added on May 13, 2008, 11:02 am QUOTE(dannysao @ May 13 2008, 09:34 AM) I been there twice, saw 7-8 GSD there. But that time was 2-3 years ago. Now never been any more. This post has been edited by Juztiny: May 13 2008, 11:02 AM |

QUOTE(fresh_ideas @ Jun 1 2008, 10:02 PM) Yes, quite high. One GSD could finish a pack of 15kg in 2 weeks. Averagely around RM300 per month in terms of dog kibbles. But don't feed your dog 100% on dog kibbles, not good for health in the long run, you should combine with homecook holistic style & kibbles. Then your GSD condition will be good in terms of fur coat and healthy in weight. |

QUOTE(fresh_ideas @ Jun 4 2008, 12:22 PM) OMG that's very expensive! Holistic style mean you could cook rice with meat (without salt/kichup/seasoning) plus some vegetables i.e. potato, carrot, green veg, garlic etc. And sometimes give them raw meat.what is holistic? I don't own a GSD but another breed of dog, is it the same for them too, not good for health if only feed kibbles? Same for all the dogs. |

QUOTE(fresh_ideas @ Jun 4 2008, 03:03 PM) oh...i did't know that.. Dog's ancestor is from wolf family, so definitely can eat raw meat. Moderation is the key, so combination of food choices will give them quite a balance diet. But i thought rice + meat + veges does not have as much nutritions as kibbles? dogs can have raw meat? won't stomackache ar? |
