for me i would prefer take from puppy cuz not oni the relationship, its the bond when v train them since small. n u will get more satisfaction if u r the one who successfully train your own dog. of cuz i mean by obedient training lah, not guarding training like biting sleeve all that. if i knw the way i oso prefer to gv my own dog the biting training lesson. hehe...
if obedience training, i can learn most of the trick and advice from youtube. for example, Eric Letendre from youtube or watch dog whisperer. lots of tips u can get.

thanks for considering me to be the trainer but i have to decline la. ours is showring training. i dont do attack work. i am into showline only. fascinating type. as for dr jay, i never hear before this guy. what breed is he in?? as for dog i also suggest to get 1 year and above dog. this is because we can see the potential and also suitability for showring. the price is a little more expensive because 1 years plus is usually holdback from the breeder. as for puppy, this is like gambling. you dont know what they will look like when they grow up. puppy changes a lot. for me i import only semi adult because we can see the potential then. puppy is too much risk for us. go youtube.com and check on germany sieger show. and you will understand showring better.

ah chuan.

puppy is good and cute and also will bond with you. but semi adult ( 9-12 ) months also will bond very fast. no problem at all. i like 1 year and above because you dont have the risk of parvo, sickness and etc like puppies. and you can see the actual type when buying 1 year old. for example the ears will be up, the bite is right, the color is right and etc.

i know what u mean..but to get a semi adult or rottie/gsd in malaysia is not easy and might not be cheap!
that's wat makes me rclxub.gif
Dr Jay.. he is a VET but do train dogs for ppl.. mostly GSD he trained..
he move around malaysia and currently at pahang.. he r the one that supply and train JB sultan dogs..
he suggested me to get an adult dog which is ready to work.. like gsd, but could cost me Rm18k! sweat.gif sweat.gif
which i dont think my dad will invest so much on it..
that is why.. im actually blurr and dont know wat to do..
i wanted to get a gsd but does not know any good/responsible breeder around..
and at the moment.. most likely i will go for rottie which i found Atos (malaysia champ) son the mother is also malaysia champ and both imported.. and the puppy cost me Rm3k sweat.gif sweat.gif doh.gif

My 3 months++ pup GSD named Cherry.

user posted image

I bought it from a reputable breeder in Klang.

Just did vacination and deworming.

I noticed that the vet gave Caniverm (from bioveta) and i did some reading online...

http://www.bioveta.cz/en/veterinary-divisi...-tbl-ad-us.html

I noticed that it only covers roundworm & tapeworm, but not heartworm.

The last 2 deworming was using Caniverm too, now I'm really worried as my pup is vulnerable to heartworm.

Thinking of the following option ...

1. Resend to vet and ask them to feed HeartGard (don't know if double deworming is allowed, recent one was on 20/7/2009)
2. Wait till next month and start to feed HeartGard (hopefully my pup is not infected before )

Really appreciate if you guys can advice me on this.

Hi,

Nice to have someone new in this thread. welcome....i dont think i will try to give you an answer. Cause i am no expert la. But deworming is not for heartworm. Deworming is only for tape worms and etc. heart worm and a few more virus you need heartgard. Totally diff usage. But please see other vets if still unsure. As for the Klang breeder, what is the name and also who is the parents? share share ma. lol

Thanks...!!! I'm really glad to join in this thread. biggrin.gif

By the way, I went to the vet and they administered HeartGard Plus and gave me the remaining tablets to be fed each month.

And FYI you can feed your puppy HeartGard Plus (even after deworming), as long as your puppy is above 6 weeks old and not allergic to beef.

Make sure to break down the tablet to smaller bits to increase HeartGard's effectiveness. icon_rolleyes.gif

No side effect observed after 1 day. rclxms.gif

Really glad i sent her to the vet, I have no worries now. whistling.gif

About the GSD breeder/trainer, i got it from Nathan at www.my-pet.com.my. Her father is from seremban an imported from Germany, mother is local from Melaka.

He's really a cool guy.

Quick question, why does it have to take 4-6 months to get the MKA cert?

Nathan say that it's currently being processed, but I'm not sure what that meant.

So far after 8 days, I have taught her how to ...
1. Come
2. Sit
3. Pawshake
3. Stay (sometimes get distracted, any tips?)

Here's another pic of her smiling ...

MKA cert will take about 4-6 months some even longer. depending on the level of activites in their office. just remember to change to your name when you get the cert. there will be a green form enclosed. enjoy playing with your gsd. they are really great. remember to update pics here. i remember a few members here that have gsd too. pics time.

as for the look, they will look very cute from 2-5 months. then look funny (awkward stage) tall and leggy till 12 month to 15 months. they will continue to mature till 3 years old. that will be the peak.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know the paperwork can take that long.

I got a concern, is it ok to keep Cherry in the bathroom (it's a big bathroom), while I go out to work?

Would it affect her psychological / physically?

The reason is that I'm afraid of kidnappings. Lately there's report about Husky being stolen not too far away from my area.

I thought of keeping her in the bathroom whenever i'm not around till she grows up big and fierce.

pic time. previous litter. her name is aria (female)

Added on August 1, 2009, 11:11 pmsorry, aria is the first pics.

Nyxator,

as for the bathroom, i would suggest not to put her in. but if you insist then remove all the shampoo, detergent and etc. accident can happen. i guess she will tear up your toilet. lol. the best way is get a big kennel then padlock the kennel. or bring her to work lo. ahaha. just kidding la.

Yeah thanks for the warning, currently it's a vacant bathroom, i guess it's safe to put her there.

Just curious, how long does it take for a GSD start guarding a house or to bark at people?

I heard Cherry's first bark recently (at stranger, i was really pleased) but after that no more.

Strangers come she will just stare at them without a sound.
