Guys

Get a Rhodesian Ridgeback

German Shepards sweat and stink like crap in Malaysia, they are cold climate dogs
*
Hi,

what is wrong with you?? if rhodesian ridgeback is good for you then good for you. this is a gsd thread so pls think before you post. do you have any experience with gsd ? gsd sweat?? i personally never seen a dog sweat? have you?? dogs pant... i personally have 3 gsd and they are lovely and do not stink more than any dogs.

now that i get it out of the way

finally there is a gsd thread here. i am so happy to see it. nice to see you guys of the same interest. i got 3 gsd now. 1 male and 2 female. loving and loyal creature. i am from jb by the way. as for the pricing it really depends on the quality and bloodline. for example an above average quality puppy will cost around 2.5k and above. for gsd you have to becareful on the hips, temperement, elbow and etc. lots of things to watch for. so go to reputable breeder. always ask to see parents and also hip score if available and test the nerve.

hi gid,

relax, not all gsd have hip problem. which is why you need to go to reputable breeders. breeder that take the effort to have their breeding stock xray on hip and some even xray before coming to malaysia. i seen a lots of cripple gsd and it really sadden me. now in germany all gsd that are to be used to breeding must have xray on hip and also some endurance test. not only in gsd that the hip have problem in almost all big breeds have this hip problem including golden, lab and etc.

yup i know. the sad thing is that malaysia dont have the thingy to test DNA on GSD..unlike US where they do scan n test on the DNA..
cause i have been told by a breeder that he say he wont recommend me GSD cause he cant promise 100% that GSD will have no prob...
cause GSD is one of the dog i wanted to get for a long time..cause im looking for Big/guard dog
which now i come to conclusion is that will get doberman or rottie. at first GSD is my priority  cry.gif

Hello,

Let me clear up a few misunderstanding about the breed. First of all one do not need to test the dna to check on the hip and elbow. You just need the pedigree papers and xray results. PEdigree paper is to check on the parentage on the offspring that might have hip problem or not. Xray result is to prove that the parent are not the one bringing the problem. In Malaysia, one could get the hip and elbow xray by the local vet. And I have one thing to ask your breeder, which big breed he can guarantee 100% confirm will not have hip problem?? Unless he is god then i have no issues with that. hahaha. Even in dob and rott, they WILL have hip issues. The problem started in Malaysia when breeder are importing breeding stock with hip problem and nerve problem so this is the offspring you see now. So my suggestion is go for your dream and get a gsd. Before getting one, please do some research online or books or you can even PM me. I will be glad to help.

Hope this clear up some misunderstanding. Some people that do not know about the breed just simply give comment based on hearsay. This is what killing the breed. It is time for us to do our part.

German shepherds commonly have problems with their hips as show GSD are bred to have low slung hindquarters, so it increases the risk of hip problems due to that. Working line GSD are not bred with that in mind, so usually working line GSD have less problems in general.

Dogs don't really sweat, they pant. I'm guessing your GS had skin problems that's why it stunk. Cuz right now I have a lab with skin problems and you don't need to see her come into the room to know she's there cuz she stinks!

Hi Reanne,

Glad to have someone that agree with me on dog panting. lol. I agree that working line do not have so much hip problem than showline. But not mainly because of the angulation and hind. Because working line are relatively new to Malaysia, their breeding stock are xray certified and the breeder are aware of the problem now. For showline past people, they are not equip with the experience or knowledge at that time. Now it is a totally different ball game. You will see many Germany SG or V rated in Malaysia showring today. Lots of commited gsd hobbyist trying to improve the breed. We can talk all day about gsd, I am obsessed. ahahahah. By the way, i just got my FOTO URMA book from Germany, i am going to read all day.

Slayer ben,

I guess she is only 8 months that why she havent bark yet. some dogs are late bloomers. but dont worry i have never heard of deaf dog before. i got a female that started barking at 9 months. before that was only whining and low level noise that seems like barking. ahahaha.

Honey,

Thanks. 3 dogs are really a handful. sometimes i have to socialize with them separately in order to give full concern on each of them. i have up to 4 full grown and 6 puppies last time and i tell you it is all hell break loose. but it is all worth it when they all run around in the yard and looking beautiful.

Look so cute ! first time i see gsd mix terrier look
sirisaac , so lucky of you ! my parents wouldnt let me keep the gsd's puppy that my female gsd borned. so he sell it all away ! ARGH.
*
Hi,

I didnt get to keep any of the puppies too. Sold all around malaysia. Still managed to keep in contact with a few of them. I believe in order to improve gsd scene here, we need to broaden our bloodlines thus i choose not to keep. Unless I see an exceptionally good looking puppy. By the way, i too have never seen a gsd mix with terrier. i have seen gsd mix with rott and street dogs. anyone knows what kind of terrier is that?? i am guessing yorkshire terrier?? omggg, how did that even happen? size matters. hahahaha.

my dream dog. Going to get a male from my GF's dad. he is a dog breeder. Still waiting for a next batch of puppies. Looking forward for a male one.

I would like to know whether you send your GSD for trainings? or you train them your own?
*
Hi,

Glad you going to join us in this gsd hobby. we train the gsd ourselves. for obedience and minor protection. read a lot of books and watch some video, I guess that is about it. ohh, I go and see how ppl train their dogs too. but this will take up a lot of time and dedication. My advice, if you cam afford it, just send to dog trainer if you are not into sch and etc.

By the way, your gf dad is a gsd breeder or just all kinds of breeder? what is his location. thanks.
