Wiring u can ask ur reno contractor, how much per point pull cable. I got around RM80-90 per point, cable i provide. My contractor told me if without cable he charge rm200+ per point. 1 box cable (305m) range from RM3xx-5xx. alang alang already pull the cable, add some more point for each room / tv point. then later all can put in one rack. Modem, nvr, switch, router, NAS.

Depends on how many cam u want to install. If you plan to install many camera, u can save alot if install it yourself, just make sure u know what you are doing 

Survey where you can get the best deal for camera and nvr.  For me, I saved about RM1k for camera after comparing a few places.

Previously, I went to one of cctv installer in putra heights, price for camera with installation quoted about RM2.4k for  4 x 2MP cameras system.

With almost the same price, i bought somewhere else and install it myself, got myself 8 x 4MP cameras.

This 5MP is coaxial type? what model?

Any specific IP camera to recommend? These are not wireless type right? Some people said wireless IP camera tend to be hacked, true?

How come your 5MP IP camera only can work on 12.5 FPS?
Is that limitation on NVR side?

Any recommendation for wireless cctv that does not require nvr? Like uploading to cloud directly. I saw Xiaomi got, but not sure really good or not.

I'm building my dream house now (currently in the early stage of foundation and ground beam) and expected to start the electrical wiring within 3 months. I will use my wireman to pull cables for alarm n cctv. btw He doesn't know how to setup the alarm n cctv, so I'll setup myself.

So my question:

1. I have no experience in cctv or alarm installation, but I consider myself to be quite good in following manuals and quick learner in IT stuff haha. (btw I setup my own networking in my offices and home. with mikrotik/ubiquiti hardwares). How's the learning curve in setup the alarm and cctv?

2. Alarm: I'm considering the Paradox Magellan wireless alarm system. Is this okay? I really do not mind changing the batteries. The convenience of no wire is very appealing to me, is there any other concern with this system?

3. CCTV: I'm planning to have IP based cctv, with 8 indoor and 8 outdoor cameras. My whole house will be wired with cat6, so I think I should just go with poe-powered cctv? Any recommendation of system/brand?

I did DIY cctv installation first with 8cctv then my 2nd project 27 cameras. it is easy. Plug n play. I did it in 3 days for 27 cam project, most of the camera is up already. And everyday after work at night I continue cleaning up the rack. It was fun doing it yourself. In the meantime, you can do the patch cord first.

I used HIKvision. As a first time user, it is really easy to use. Plug n play. But for DOME camera, need to activate it + create password first using ur pc (not sure if there is other way, im informing based on my experience)

Ask your wireman how much he charge per point to pull cable. You buy your own cable cheaper. My wiremen charged RM80/point. I used DINTEK previously, for the bigger project, i used CAT6 commscope cable. For DIY i suggest this commscope cable. easier to use compared to dintek. Dintek cable is a lot stiffer than commscope. Sakit jari.

If u use POE setup, you can add on also POE Access Point, ceiling/wall mount for wifi coverage for whole house.

When setting up the system, i bring my monitor down to connect to the nvr via hdmi. After it is done, now can monitor using HIK apps or through browser if im viewing from PC.

I have got .DAV files exported from CCTV recording.  Then I tried to use Dahua's General Player to convert it to .AVI, which resulting in Windows 10 failed to recognize its output .AVI.  (However, I managed to convert the problematic .AVI to .MP4 using Format Factory, a file format converter)

Is there anyway to playback the .DAV file on Windows 10 directly?  If not, what is the fastest way to convert the .DAV to popular video file format?
