PETALING JAYA (Oct 31): S P Setia Bhd is back as the Malaysia's top property developer having clinched the No 1 spot of The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers’ Awards (TPDA) 2016.

This marks the ninth time that S P Setia has clinched the top spot since The Edge Malaysia Property Excellence Awards was introduced in 2003. Last year, S P Setia was in 4th place.

“It is good to be No 1 again and we are absolutely delighted and also honoured as we are chosen by our peers in the industry. I would like to thank my team as this is a result of teamwork and perseverance, so it’s everyone’s effort.

“Going through this lower period, I think now [that] we’re back to No 1 again, the next thing we would like to do is to start growing and expanding again as we were consolidating in [the] last three years,” said its president and CEO Datuk Khor Chap Jen.

IJM Land Bhd remained in second place this year. The rest of the top 10 are Sunway Bhd (No 3), Sime Darby Property Bhd (No 4), Mah Sing Group Bhd (No 5), Eco World Development Group Bhd (No 6), Gamuda Bhd-Property Division (No 8), IGB Corp Bhd (No 9) and UEM Sunrise Bhd (No 10).

This year is also the first time that Eco World Development Group (EcoWorld) made it onto the list. Last year, EcoWorld’s president and CEO Datuk Chang Khim Wah took home The Edge Malaysia Outstanding Property CEO Award.

The Edge Malaysia Top Property Developers Awards’ sub award the Best in Quantitative Attributes went to UOA Development Bhd while the Best in Qualitative Attributes was won by Sunway Bhd.

The rankings are based on what? Average score? Or just scoring based on none quantitative factors?

I think The Edge Weekly in this coming Saturday shall have more details about it. If I remember correctly (based on last year) it's based on various attributes including the financials.

Quite interesting results. Probably because of those qualitative factors are very subjective.
I think MS are sucks these recent years and it still get better scoring than EW.

Gamuda are not active in property recent years since they focused on MRT project. Still manage to get so high ranking. Higher than IGB. Maybe those Vietnam project take count?

On the quantitative attributes part, EW was just formed not too long (around 3 yrs+) and yet to bear fruits from its developments. So I think these are the measurable areas it potentially loose out.

Other than MS which I am not agreed. I think top 4 developers are hard to beat...they are good. As a new boy on board, doing good is not enough. EW need to play very well. Not an easy challange for them.

EW spent so much on social media publicity. Recent one is Divali greeting. Gamuda lacks on publicity. Hence some thinking they are not so active. But in term of qualitative delivery, IMHO Gamuda still one notch above EW. Some of GamudaLand projects already practicing Conquas for quality control.

KOTA KEMUNING have even hand over to MBSA already. Still take count?
You know how many Gamuda property I have? You want to discuss about workmanship? Show me the photos of your Gamuda property workmanship before talk to me.

MS I didn't says not active. I can name even more projects than he did. I just said their projects suck. Go and see Icon city before listed it here. LAKEVILLE is like Hong Kong "Village Flat"? We were talking scoring, not number of projects on hand.

yeah conquas really helps. in fact the best so far for vped house my experience is Gamuda...miles ahead of Setia...
cant comment on EW.

recent report of Jadite also very positive.

I am satisfy with Gamuda workmanship too.

Setia is bad, everyone know.
EW we not sure. Many said same DNA, we will see.

why company cannot diversify?

end of the day...these awards are given out privately......just read as fun lah....

DPC didn't get awards after so many years.....now everybody wants to live like in DPC ambience.....dpc this and dpc that...

Are we comparing current or past edge property developers' ranking? I m sure you prefer EW ranking above Gamuda more on qualitative rather than quantitative attributes. GamudaL already start adopting Conquas to some of its projects. EW adopting what quality standard? Qlassic?

they probably have their own ECO signature and standards leh....
