Too bad for boon users I got the email as well. I guess time to move to n26 or Monese then...

Just a quick update, boon planet is also affected.

So...All boon users will you be moving to Monese or N26 and why?

Btw I’ve used Apple pay in NSK hypermarket in Muar after my cimb debit got declined for whatever reasons.. clerk said ‘sorry cannot use phone’ .. then I ask ‘its ok let me try’ .. then receipt comes out ☺️

Recently returned to MY, and so frustrating that apple pay isn't yet supported here. It is really a lot more convenient than having to get the wallet and flash the physical card when making payments... When will we finally have it?

Local card does support yet but how about those with foreign card with apple pay support? Does the device works as paywave on normal swipe mechanisms?

Friend work in bank told me.
Plus another f&b owner friend was contacted by the bank informing on this too.

Anyway take this as a pinch of salt until confirmed by bank themselves

Mind to share which bank?
And share more info
It over 1 month from what you shared but nothing heard
Except grab card was launched…

apple pay rides on paywave. I'm already using apple pay. Works with all paywave terminals.

Yes foreign cards that are apple pay compatible are usable here in Malaysia but there is no reason for me to charge local spending to my foreign cards (and incur foreign currency charges when paying the card bills) just because those foreign cards are in my apple wallet.

It works on a contactless basis which is akin to paywave (i.e. not by swiping).

Ok, so it works then on same paywave platform. The rate are separate issue.

For Apple Pay to exist in Malaysia, we need Apple to deal and struck an agreement with banks in Malaysia.

This is the biggest problem because the fees that Apple charges are usually the problem here.

Apple requires banks to give it a cut of the interchange fees associated with Apple Pay, but it doesn't allow banks to recoup these costs from their customers.

In the US, issuers must pay 0.15% of a credit card transaction and 0.5 cents for each debit card transaction. That does not include fees for each card that is added to an Apple wallet.

Just look at how the Bank in Aussie battle with Apple regarding this Apple Pay. It's a long process and not as simple as we think.

May I know what do you mean by this? iOS 14 asking you to set it up when they know our region does not have it? Any way to trigger the reminder? If so, try changing to another region that doesn’t have Apple Pay and see if the stuff still pops up or not.

I think it linked to my Apple account which is US region. That’s why trigger to set up Apple Pay.

Technically Apple Pay is available in Malaysia just it can’t be pair with any local issued card
