Recently returned to MY, and so frustrating that apple pay isn't yet supported here. It is really a lot more convenient than having to get the wallet and flash the physical card when making payments... When will we finally have it?

Local card does support yet but how about those with foreign card with apple pay support? Does the device works as paywave on normal swipe mechanisms?

Yes foreign cards that are apple pay compatible are usable here in Malaysia but there is no reason for me to charge local spending to my foreign cards (and incur foreign currency charges when paying the card bills) just because those foreign cards are in my apple wallet.

It works on a contactless basis which is akin to paywave (i.e. not by swiping).

Youtrip in Singapore able to support Apple Pay. Not sure Malaysia though.

Nope, YouTrip has never supported Apple Pay. Just tried adding my youtrip card to apple wallet again just to confirm - and as usual it is declined.

Oh, there is, but it's not available for the masses. My friend who works at AMEX as a concierge supports a group of customers who have these cards.

it has to either be issued by Maybank (of course without Maybank's branding - just like how the Platinum Card is issued by Maybank) or it is a non-Malaysian card issued by Amex in another jurisdiction. Amex is not a licensed issuer of charge card (or credit card for the matter) in Malaysia which is the very reason why all Amex-branded cards (as opposed to Maybank-branded Amex cards) have been issued by Maybank instead under their partnership: https:// www.bnm.gov.my/list-of-regulatees
